Rough Start
Jana slowly came awake as the the car pulled to a stop. Outside the car window everything was dark except for the pale hue of the moon. The sliver of light gave no inclination as to where they had stopped.
Jana was aware that the sound of nightlife was much more prominent then if she were behind the walls of a compound. It was as if they were in the middle of a forest.
At Simeon's prompting she slowly dragged her lethargic body from the car. Grabbing one of her few bags from the floor of the car.
Her feet crunched on what she assumed was a twig. Implying that her early thoughts had some merit.
Trees rustled near by putting any remaining doubts she had of her whereabouts to rest. She was undoubtedly in a forest somewhere.
To think she had traveled miles and miles to only wind up back in another forest, the irony did not allude her.
"Is there a reason we are here" came Jana's quizzical voice as she tried to gain the attention of any of the males.
Keith walked past her, giving no indication that he could see her let alone hear her. It was a blatant and unwarranted snub, for which only served to agitate Jana further.
His bulky body leaned across the driver seat as he fiddled with something within the car. Sharp lights filtered into the night, cloying onto the shadows and revealing nothing knew.
Jana was right to assume they were in a forest, the car lights revealed rows and rows of tall trees and bushes. The shrubbery was in its most rural and natural form, the bushes were not groomed and the trees grew in billowing directions. Their tall arms forming a canopy across the sky.
"Simeon."
Shouted Jana as she marched around the side of the car to reach the boot where he and Jared stood. Their heads were leaning close together as they spoke in hushed whispers, arms gesturing to the cargo that remained partially unloaded.
"Hello, is anybody listening." Growled Jana, her arms folded as she met both with a murderous glare.
Not that either of them were paying her much attention. No, they were much too busy with their secretive conversation to notice Jana stomping off into the forest. Curse words flying from her mouth as she traipsed through the wilderness with nothing but her bag on her back.
Her feet kicked up a storm as she treaded on roots and disturbed all the sleeping animals.
Her arms swiping out at the random branches that appeared in her path, her arms snapping at them a lot more aggressively than warranted. Her anger with the situation was taken out on the poor unsuspecting wild life.
Jana stopped in the middle of a small clearing, her arms rested along her hips as she panted into the night. She took in as much scenery as possible. As her eyes adjusted to the natural light of the moon she saw things that were previously hidden to her.
What once looked like natural wilderness was riddled with a few man made structures. Pipes ran along the bed of the forest and barbed-wire was intertwined with the branches and bushes.
The adjustments were so subtle Jana thought her eyes were playing tricks on her, looking for a rainbow at the end of this catastrophe of a storm.
"Jana, what the hell are you doing traipsing though the godamn forest like that."
Gritted Simeon as he appeared through the bushes she had just come through. His appearance was probably as disheveled as hers was, his short locks had escaped from the band they were in and had remnants of plants in it.
In this moment Jana was stricken by how at one Simeon looked with nature surrounding him. Stuffy shirts did not do his frightening beauty any justice. When he was like this, all ragged with dirt and sweat he was the most attractive and ferocious man alive.
"Well damn, I finally get more than one sentence from the almighty Simeon. If this isn't my lucky day," she scoffed at him as she continued to watch the bushes behind him.
The flashing light of the cars beamers accompanied the sound of the wheels tearing up dirt. The vehicle bumped and bounced along the ground before it came to an abrupt holt by the bushes.
"Stop being so childish," he reprimanded as he headed towards her.
He placed his arms around her tense shoulders, bringing her body in line with his chest and tucking her head under his chin.
This was the most contact that they had since before they had taken off all those hours ago. For a brief moment Jana was sucked into the embrace. His earthy smell had her losing her mind and forgetting the way she had been neglected on this journey.
If it wasn't for the sound of the car door slamming closed she would have remained in his arms all night. As it was, the sound was enough to jar her out of her daze and she was faced with the reality of the situation.
She was stuck in the middle of a forest with two men who seemed to despise her and another who couldn't decide whether he wanted to love her or forget her existence. Simeon's mood swings were enough to drive the holiest person to drink.
"I'm not," she groaned as she pushed on his chest, creating a much needed distance. The cold air created shockwaves through her body, reminding her of all the wrongs he had committed.
"I'm not your doormat Simeon, don't think you can ignore me for hours on end and then all of a sudden be sweet," she spat.
Simeon's jaw hung wide for a split second in absolute shock, before he recovered and a frown formed on his face. His dark eyes glinted with annoyance and a grunt escaped his mouth as he brought his arms across his chest.
"This is ridiculous. I had a lot of things on my mind," he huffed his arms falling from his chest and slapping against his thigh in anger.
"I'm sure you did," she snarled sarcastically.
Her reproachful eyes casted a bitter glance over his body before she turned away and headed towards the car.
If Simeon wanted to stand in a forest arguing all night, he could do that but he would be doing it by himself. She was not going to entertain his stupidity.
"I'm sorry I wasn't waiting on you hand and foot princess, but in the real world, with all the adults. We learn to deal with a little silence without throwing a bitch fit."
His voice was laced with condemnation and disgust as he all but threw his lowly opinion in her face. Their argument had gained the attention of Keith and Jared as the two males snickered behind her while they continued to unload the cargo.
Keith even went so far as to shoot her a dirty look before continuing on his way. Simeon had made getting along with any of his pack members hard from the get go. He had failed to introduce her as his significant other which was why the two idiots in his company felt they could disrespect her.
On top of that he had just given them further reason to mock her, if her mate thought her to be a spoilt brat then there was no hope for her. She felt humiliated.
"Princess?" She whispered in distress. Her lip quivering as the strains of the week began to wear her down.
She had left her only home on bad terms with her family to be taken miles away into a dismal forest. The man she thought she was starting her life a new with was a sham. He had wooed her with his soft words and gentle touches, to only turn out to be a cold hearted toad.
Maybe she was taking his snide comments too seriously but she hadn't left the lap of luxury to be spoken like some lesser and inferior being. She'd had enough of that in her lifetime, she thought being with Simeon would have been different.
"Thanks for that," she murmured as she headed back inside the jeep.
She had no fight left, the day was just dragging. She was tired and just wanted somewhere to rest. Her anxiety of reaching her new home was mounting and she just couldn't deal with having an argument with a man who already had a negative opinion of her.
If he thought, she was a princess she was going to be the most royal brat he had ever encountered.
"Kurwa" muttered Simeon as he ran his fingers over his knotted hair, the expletive flying from his mouth with all his anger and annoyance.
He had messed up. He should have never taken Jana with him. She was his mate so at the time he couldn't possibly fathom leaving her behind. From the moment he had met the tree climbing woman he knew he was taking her with him.
He knew that she wouldn't fit in with his lifestyle though. She was timeless and sheltered, all soft skin with golden hair. She would stick out like a sore thumb amongst his people, they would eat her alive and she would hate him for it.
Sure she was feisty and had a mean temper but she wouldn't understand the society that Simeon had created, she was too caught up in the way of the compound. She would not thrive with him, she would only wither away and become half the woman she wanted to be.
That's what being apart of his pack did to people it changed them, made them darker than they ever thought conceivable.
He hated it but at the same time it was salvation, as it was theirs. Jana only knew the world to be black and white but Simeon lived in the grey areas. It was where he thrived and where he could seek his revenge.
Bringing Jana with him was the stupidest thing he could have done but having spoken to her, there really had been no other option. He only hoped she flourished in the grey his life was shrouded in and didn't die without the white light of her previous life.
Jana flinched in the back seat of the jeep as large lights abruptly flickered on and blinded her with its brightness. The the clearing with sharp lights. Men in dark green and brown trousers marched out of the bushes with guns in their hands. Their faces ready to do battle as they charged towards the intruders.
A sharp whistle cracked through the air as Simeon called them to attention and stopped them from closing in around them.
A tall but thin man with ginger hair continued to make his way towards them gun still in his hand. The soldiers stood by, weapons aimed at their targets.
Jana hopped out the car as soon as her eye sight was regained and she caught men beginning to filter out from the bushes. Her instant reaction was to run to Simeon's side, but the glare Keith shot her told her to not make a move.
More men crawled out from behind the bushes, encircling them with their bodies and stopping any exits.
"Alpha Simeon it's good to see your return."
Chuckled the ginger head as he grabbed Simeon into a tight hug. The embrace broke the tension as the men dropped their guns to the floor and headed towards Simeon. Their arms reaching out to touch his head or shoulders.
They had known who stood before them all along but it was always better to be safe then sorry. They had never been compromised in such a way before but the soldiers knew that their leader wanted them to always be careful. Complacency led to one's death.
The men huddled around Simeon, Keith and Jared, their murmurs of relief rose into shouts and cheers.
Jana stood back by the car and watched the men rejoice at their return with befuddlement plastered across her face.
They had called Simeon Alpha.
