New Member, New Infatuation (Part 1)

Thanks AnOmoriFanatic for this great collab, we're changing lives rn :D

* * * * *

You, the infamous Y/N L/N, had a conundrum.

It had all started that morning when you'd been walking to school with Sayori. She'd excitedly told you that the club was getting a new member, and despite yourself, her contageous energy was getting you pumped up as well. It was even easier to look forward to it when you'd talked with Monika later.

Oh, jeez. You shouldn't even get started on Monika. You could talk about her for hours. Her perfectly styled Monikolor hair, her mesmerizing emerald eyes that never failed to draw you in, her breathtaking visual novel-like features... not to mention her confident but kind and caring personality. It was an understatement to say you were absolutely whipped for the club president, but that wasn't your focus right now.

Today was about the Literature Club!!

It had taken way too long for school to end, but you were elated when it did. Not only did you get to hang out with your friends and one of your favorite people in the world, but you got to meet a new member!! As soon as the bell rang, you had made your way down to the clubroom, your pace a bit faster than usual. Everything was normal until you opened the club door and–

Oh, damn it, Monika wasn't there yet. But at least it looked like the new member was!!

Wait.

...

Was that even a student??

You had hardly even registered Sayori shouting a greeting. You were too transfixed on the creature in front of you. It– it was neon blue???? So definitely not a normal person. What the fuck. It kind of looked like a cat?!? No, wait that wasn't right, but...

And that's where you were now, suddenly facing a dilemma you never expected to face.

Why was this new club member kinda... well... kinda... erm... well...

"Y/N? Earth to Y/N?"

You shrieked and nearly jumped through the ceiling, completely caught off guard. Sayori just laughed at your suffering and gently placed a hand on your arm to calm you down.

"Relax, silly, it's just me," she giggled. "Monika isn't here yet, so... do you want me to introduce you?"

"Ah? Introduce me?? To whom????" you squeaked, suddenly stiff as a board (much to Sayori's concern).

"...The new club member?" She laughed nervously. "Y'know, the one right over there?"

"OH!!! HAHAHAHAHA SORRY!!!!" You were trying to contain your panic, but tiny, miniscule, microscopic bits were starting to slip through the cracks. "THAT!! THAT SOUNDS GREAT!!! HAHAHAHAHA—"

"Shut up, Y/N," Natsuki groaned, burying her face in the newest volume of Parfait Girls and trying to pretend like she didn't know who you were. "Please."

You smiled/smirked/grinned/beamed awkwardly. "Hehe... sorry."

"Hey, you're okay," Sayori reassured you with a gentle smile/grin/beam. "Besides, better late than never, right? I'm sure you'll love to meet it– c'mon!!"

It?? Wait is it actually a cat wtf

But the vice president had already dragged you to the new "member" before you could overthink the complexities of pronouns.

"Hi, Loquacious Cat!!" Sayori said happily as she slung an arm around your shoulders. "This is Y/N, our second most recent member."

The thing just stared at you with its bulbous, rotund, spherical, round, orb-like swirling yellow eyes. They were... kinda mesmerizing, um...

Not as much as Monika's, though!! Think about Monika. Just Monika. Stay grounded.

"Hey there, babah grill," you tried to say suavely. "Nice to meet you."

This Loquacious being didn't answer at first. Almost feeling like you'd been rejected, you sighed to yourself, a feeling of disappointment sweeping over you. Not so loquacious after all...

"TWO YARDS OF LEATHER"

Your eyes lit up with uncontainable joy at the response. Did that sentence make any sense? No, but still, it responded!!! Its voice sounded like an audial embodiment of static, but you were lowkey into it (not that you'd say that out loud).

"You're so sweet," Sayori cooed. "But, um, Y/N, before I forget, Monika wanted to talk to you about something. So if she comes to you when she gets here, that's why. She's not kicking you out or anything, ehehe!"

"LOTS AND LOTS OF LITTLE PINS"

"Thanks," you giggled, making an active fight to tear your gaze away from the bright blue blob of beauty in front of you. "Uh... have we shared poems yet?"

"Nope, we're waiting for Monika."

"Hi, Monika!!" MC exclaimed, right on cue as the club president finally walked through the door.

It was yet another active fight to not pass out when Monika happened to smile right at you. Actually, she might have been smiling at Sayori or even that new loquacious member, but still, you couldn't help it!! She was just so sweet and pretty and nice and kind and hot and pretty and generous and smart and pretty and hot and did you mention sweet and pretty and

"Hello, everyone!!" Monika set down her bag before quickly making her way to the front of the room. "I'm so sorry for being late, I got a little caught up with piano, ahaha!! Specifically, I want to apologize to the new member for not being here to greet them... uh, he, she, uh– it!! Yes, I think that's in the file... I'm sorry for not greeting it on time. Sayori, thank you for managing all that."

"Aw, shucks, it's nothing!!" Sayori grinned bashfully in that cute genki girl kind of way. About three quarters of the fandom melted at that simple action. Again.

"Everyone thinks you have, like, a secret boyfriend or something," Natsuki sighed, finally putting down her manga (though she still seemed too ashamed to directly associate with you).

Monika laughed sheepishly, blushing ever so slightly. "Oh, gosh. Do you really?"

"I believe most of us know you better than that," Yuri insisted. "But even if you did have a secret suitor of some kind, we'll always support you."

You were a little confused when she spoke up. Yuri hadn't been mentioned up until this point, and you were starting to wonder if she was even here.

"Suffice to say I'm not dating anyone in secret." Monika smiled, and it felt like her gaze lingered on you for just a second too long. "But we're getting sidetracked!! Has everyone met our newest member?"

"A PAIR OF BIG BEAUTIFUL BUTTONS"

When the "Loquacious Cat" spoke again, you had to stop yourself from swooning. This was getting dangerous. Of course, there was Monika, who was always drop-dead... uh, gorgeous, great, generous, all of the above, but now there was this neon being sitting (?) less than an arm's length away from you. Maybe you died and went to some kind of paradise.

(You were probably actually stuck in some kind of limbo fever dream, but to each their own!)

"We haven't shared poems yet," Sayori piped up, making a beeline through the desks to stand by Monika. "We were waiting for you, so I guess we can probably start now, ehehe!!"

"Perfect. But, if you all don't mind..." Monika's eyes locked onto yours. "Y/N, is it okay if I speak with you for a second? Alone?"

"UH?!?!???!?!?!?!???!?!?!?! YES??!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

Sayori flashed you a grin, a thumbs-up, and about fifteen encouraging winks, while Yuri just frowned and looked concerned for your mental well-being. You didn't even know what Natsuki and MC were doing. Probably pretending that they didn't exist so they could get out of this stupid book sooner.

Monika also gave you an encouraging smile, probably because you looked completely flabbergasted. "It'll be quick, don't worry. In the meantime, does everyone want to start sharing poems, or would you rather do that later when we're all here?"

"Let's just get this over with," Natsuki huffed, popping back into existence again.

"I'll handle the first round or so." With another beam, Sayori somehow produced her poem out of nowhere and held it up like a trophy. "Just don't vanish for too long, hehe!!"

"Don't worry, this won't take long for you," Monika promised, patting the vice president's shoulder affectionately.

"For me–?"

"We'll be quick."

And just like that, Monika ushered you out into the hall while the rest of the club began to shuffle around the classroom. You couldn't help but feel like a pair of bulbous, rotund, spherical, round, orb-like swirling yellow eyes were watching the back of your head, though that feeling dissipated once the door had closed.

"Gosh, Y/N," Monika exclaimed as she led you to another empty classroom a few doors down. "You look a little terrified."

"Sorry," you chucked, trying to keep your nerves out of your voice. "It's just, y'know, always a little scary when the club president asks to talk to you alone."

"Oh, please don't worry." You swore she winked at you, but the dim lighting of the classroom made it hard to tell. "I'm not going to kick you out or confess that I hate you!! Didn't Sayori tell you that it's nothing too serious?"

"O–oh." You grinned nervously, refusing to say that you'd been too distracted by the Loquacious Cat to really process what she'd said in the moment and that Monika was also really really really really really really really really really disctracting in the current moment. "Right. Sorry."

"You're too cute," Monika giggled before guiding you over to a desk. "Feel free to sit, I just wanted to talk real quick."

DID SHE JUST CALL ME CUTE???!?!?!?!? SDLKJFSLDKJFSLDJFLSKDJFLSDKJFLSDKJFSLDKJ

Containing your inner panic (that might lead to spontaneous combustion if left unchecked), you just sat and smiled, though you were pretty sure you were blushing like mad.

It was only when Monika moved to sit down as well that you noticed the windows.

...Something wasn't right.

You should have been able to see the school campus, whether that was more of the building, the fields, the courtyard, literally anything. But whatever was outside the window was... well... it wasn't... it didn't look like it was anything from Earth???  The swirling kaleidoscope of black and red, freckled with blinding spots of light, was entrancing and horrifying at the same time. It felt like looking at the dark, empty reaches of space rather than what was supposed to be an average high school.

A completely insane thought then hit you. Am I even at school anymore?

"Woah, Y/N, are you okay?" A small frown of concern fell across Monika's face, and she gently placed one of her hands atop your own. "You look... freaked out. I'm not going to kill you, you know, ahaha!!"

"Y–y–yeah9, my bad," you spluttered, so flustered you were positive you looked like a bright red lobster in the middle of a monochrome art exhibit. "So, um, what was it you wanted to talk to me about?"

Her worried expression quickly faded into a gentle smile. "Ah, right. I... okay."

Seeing her hesitate was so out of character you got scared for a second, but hastily resolved to actually be a good person. "It's okay, Monika, take your time, okay?"

"Thank you." She took a deep breath before refocusing on you, her entrancing emerald O R B S locking onto yours. "I... I'm going to be honest with you, Y/N, you are an incredibly special person to me. Ever since I met you, I've felt this connection, and I... I haven't been able to stop thinking about you. Every day, I can't help but imagine what kind of future we could have, where I could be with you. Throughout all your time at the club, you've always been such a genuinely amazing person– your humor, you personality, your looks, all of it."

WAIT IS SHE CONFESSING TO ME IS THE REAL WHAT THE ACTUAL

Monika was clearly flustered, maybe even as much as you were, seemingly oblivious (or uncaring) to the warped, distorted environment outside the classroom. Still, she kept her smile as she continued.

"Y/N, what I guess I'm trying to say... is that I'm in love with you."

...

"A TOMATO MADE OF CLOTH"

"What the FUCK–???"

And that was the point where your life began to spiral into pure and utter insanity.
