twelve: meet the friends

The glass noddles along with a few side dishes came out of the kitchen, all beautifully done. The two boys looked at it in awe and quickly began digging in.

"Your treat right?" Taehyung spoke through a mouth full of food.

Jeongguk scoffed. "You said it was your treat!"

"I never said that!"

"You're the one that even suggested glass noodles!"

"You're the one that brought us here!"

After much more arguing, Taehyung tried to compromise. "Okay, how about we split the bill 50-50?"

"Or, we can have a challenge and loser pays."

"What challenge?"

Jeongguk looked around, seeing if he can spot anything for inspiration. His eyes finally landed on the waitress that was serving them. She was pretty, and seemed around their age, maybe one or two years older.

"Whoever can get her number," Jeongguk paused to point at the girl. "–wins."

Taehyung sighed. He hated those kind of bets or challenges. Playing with ones feelings was never his thing, and he thought it was quite rude.

"How about instead, let's see if you can get her number or not, and if you do, I'll pay," the older suggested instead.

The red-head smirked. "Well that just makes it easier for me."

"Why, Jeon? Didn't think you could pull it off if I was in the run? Think I'm hotter than you?"

"God, you're so full of yourself. Whatever, I'll get her number."

It took a while before the girl came to check on how they were doing with their order.

"It's very delicious, but I'm not completely satisfied," Jeongguk began.

"Oh? Why is that?" the girl, Jisoo read her name tag, asked.

"Because a pretty girl like you should've been sitting in front of me instead of this loser." Taehyung only rolled his eyes, but didn't interrupt. "Maybe next time?"

"Ah, I see!" Jisoo took out her ticket book and pen, and began writing something down.

"Writing your number?" Jeongguk asked, leaning against the table to get closer.

"How'd you know?" Jisoo gasped, sarcasm draining in her voice, although the younger didn't quite catch that. She ripped it off, and just as Jeongguk was about to spread out his fingers out to receive the sheet, Jisoo steers it over to the brunet who had remained silent the entire time.

"Me?" He asked, a little shocked. After receiving a nod of approval, he spared once glance at the confused Jeongguk before taking the slip out of her hand.

"I've got costumers to take care of, if you'll excuse me." Jisoo bowed and proceeded on to welcome in the newly arrived guest.

Taehyung laughed like a obnoxious boy as he read out the content on the paper. "I don't think you're a loser, quite cute. Unfortunately not into high schoolers, but call me, I'll set you up with a pretty girl. P.S. get a new friend!"

The red-head slumped back in his seat. "Whatever."

"You know what that means! You're paying!" the older yelled victoriously. He placed down the ticket, and began eating as much as he can, after all he wasn't paying for it. Jeongguk continued eating as well, seeing he should get his money's worth. Taehyung left the restaurant first, as the younger was a little behind paying for their bill.

"I don't get what she saw in you," Jeongguk huffed as he caught up to the brunet.

"Why? Aren't I cute?" Taehyung said, turning his face towards the boy and making a cutesy face.

After a few seconds of seeing the older act cute, Jeongguk turned away his head as quick as he could. He didn't know quite why, but if he kept looking any longer he would've cooed at the adorableness, which is certainly not something Jeon Jeongguk would do. "Whatever," was all he was able to mumble out.

"By the way, where are we going?" Jeongguk asked. They were just walking down the streets mindlessly.

"You got anything to do?"

"The guys and I have planned to do a little spray painting. Hey, you like art, wanna join?"

"Is it somewhere we're allowed to do that?"

"Pft, obviously not."

"Change of plans. You're gonna meet my friends!"

Jeongguk stopped in his tracks, and looked at Taehyung like he was insane. "You're kidding right?" He asked, hoping the older was joking. The younger doesn't really know a lot about Taehyung's friend group, other then them being quite popular for all the right reason and being involved in the school.

"Why not? They wanted to go for ice cream today. Everyone's usually busy with studying, clubs and sports and what not, but we're all free today," Taehyung explained. Seeing that the expression on Jeongguk's face didn't change, he began thinking of ways to persuade him. "You'll love them for sure."

"Doesn't matter if I like-'em or not, they all hate me. And what the fuck am I doing hanging out with a bunch of Softies." Jeongguk pretended to shiver before he continued, "I can't believe I even considered it. I need to stop hanging out with you first."

"Oh c'mon. It'll be fun! We're going bowling afterwards too."

"Yup, definitely gotta stop talking to you."

"If you help me win I'll give you a eighty thousand wons. We usually partner up and I'm always left alone to loose."

Jeongguk's ears perked at the mention of money. His dad has been threatening to cut his allowance for skipping tutoring lessons, a little extra money wouldn't hurt.  "I forgot you were rich. Fine, I'll beat their asses and then leave."

The brunet cheered joyfully, excited but slightly worried of the boys' reactions. Like Jeongguk had said, they certainly weren't to fond of him, but he knew for sure they'll soften up to the boy. After all, Taehyung hated the guy in the beginning as well, but look where they are now.

They began walking to the only bowling arena in the town, which was located right beside the snacks and drinks shop. As usual, Taehyung was the last one to arrive. The boys were finally relieved to see they can order, but they're happy smiles soon turned into frowns as they saw Jeongguk walking behind him, lips in a tight line.

"What's he doing here?" Jimin was the first to ask.

"He's my partner for bowling today," Taehyung said with a large smile. He quickly introduced his friends to Jeongguk, and finished it with, "Let's go order."

The boys looked at the red-head suspiciously, but proceeded to enter the shop anyways. Taehyung had asked if Jeongguk wanted any, but the boy didn't even bother to answer and kept scrolling through his phone.

"What a rude dongsaeng," Jin commented silently to Taehyung, who quickly shushed him, afraid the red-head world hear and leave.

"Here, I got you some bubble tea," Taehyung said, giving the drink the seated younger.

"Thanks," Jeongguk mumbled, still not looking up from his phone. To be honest, he was just quite uncomfortable sitting with the elders, especially with how they were staring at him. He was wondering why he even came in the first place, it was very unlike him. Although the money sounded pretty good, was it really worth it?

"So, Jeongguk, you've been hanging out a lot with Taehyung," Namjoon began to make light conversation.

"More like he's been following me around."

Namjoon laughed awkwardly. "Yeah, uhm. How's the dance club?"

"Right! Someone posted your audition video on SNS, it was unbelievable!" Jin screamed. His inside voice has always been a little more loud, which startled the younger a little.

"Remember to bring appropriate attire tomorrow for practice," Hoseok added in.

Jeongguk nodded, finally setting his phone down to look up. He took a sip from his drink. It was a mango bubble tea, his favourite. Jeongguk didn't know how the older could've guessed, but he continued on drinking.

Seeing it was awfully quiet, Jin decided to crack the silence. "Guys, guys, what's a burger's favourite colour?"

Jimin sighed. "Oh god, ple–"

"Burgundy!" Jin yelled, beginning to laugh at his own joke.

The boys looked at him with disappointment, but their attentions was averted as they heard a chuckle quickly being covered up with coughs. Taehyung smiled seeing Jeongguk pretending he didn't just laugh at the awful joke.

"Are we gonna go bowling or not?" Yoongi asked after finishing his ice-cream. The rest agreed to leave, and they all began walking to the next building.

"Incredible," the boys all said in awe as Jeongguk finished off the game. He has just lead Taehyung and him to victory. "Does he practice or something? Look at his technique."

"Done," Jeongguk said, coming back with a victorious smile. Taehyung brought his open hands up to his face, confusing the younger for a few seconds, but he soon understood. Jeongguk hesitantly hit the hands of older, as if it was his first one giving a high-ten to someone, which triggered Taehyung to scream, "YEAH! We won!"

"You didn't do shit, but damn you're good, transf– I mean, Jeongguk," Yoongi praised.

Before Jeongguk could say anything in response, his phone began ringing. He answered quickly, answering the other caller on the line. Once it ended, he had informed the rest that the guys were looking for him and that he had to leave. He gave each a nod before leaving.

"Bye-bye!" Taehyung exclaimed as Jeongguk walked out.

"He's actually not that bad," Yoongi said, taking as sip from his drink. The boys gave an agreeing nod.

"See, I knew you guys wouldn't hate him as much."

"You're really going to loose this bet, huh?" Jin asked with a wide grin as he poked Hoseok and Jimin, who only whined in response.

"Wait, he does know about the bet right?" Namjoon asked.

Taehyung nodded. "Yeah, I told him when I first approached him. Honestly it's not even about the bet anymore. He's a really cool guy to hang out with. Just not going in the right direction at the moment, but I'm determined to fix that!"

"I thought he'd try to act cool and older, but he seemed like any other third year today," Hoseok added on.

"Yeah. Oh! Did you see how he'd secretly smile and say yes whenever he got a strike. Gosh, how adorable," Taehyung went on, not minding if the boys were giving him confused looks."I mean, he's not some shitty gangster like everyone thinks he is, just an ordinary kid. He's kind like a lost puppy, y'know? No! A lost bunny! Did you guys see his bunny smile? It's the cutest thing ever! Y'all never smile like that." Realizing how much he was talking about the red-head, Taehyung thought it was enough. "Okay I'll stop now. Let's play again."

"Whipped," Yoongi mumbled under his breath.

"What?" Taehyung questioned, not being able to hear the older well.

Yoongi shook his head with a smile. "Nothing."
