fifteen: a different world
The cloudy sky made the night even darker as it shadowed over the boys. The lamposts scattered around were the only source giving sight to the five. Snow crunched against their boots as they walked through alleyways and streets, puffs of white released as they breathed out in the cold air. They were in the process of trying to find an area that didn't have any security cameras directed in a way they would get caught. The winter weather was calmer at the time of night, allowing the boys to be able to walk around freely in only leather jackets or sweaters.
"Here. The camera's broken, as always," Jeongguk pointed out as they reached a street Taehyung was quite familiar with. This is the number one spot parents tell their kids to stay away from. Small gangs and such are based around this area. The boys wouldn't be surprised if someone walked past them while they were trashing a car without a care in the world.
"Look-y here, a nice new car. Just screaming at us to be broken. What'd you say, Tae?" Saejoon started, patting the only car parked on the street. The owner of the car must not know the dangers of leaving their car out in such places, or frankly doesn't care.
"Oh, can we carve before leaving as well?" Minki asked quickly.
Taehyung nodded. "Pass me the bar."
Namsoon swiftly threw the metal bar towards the silver-head who caught it perfectly. He threw it up a few times in the air, trying to grasp it at a good angle. Taehyung approached the mirror, he could practically feel the guilt crawling through his body. Trying to buy some time, he got close and crouched down, beginning to fix his hair while looking at the mirror. He raised his head to see the guys slightly grinning.
"What? I couldn't help it, I just look too damn good."
"Okay, okay, V. Hurry up."
Taehyung backed away from the mirror slightly. He looked down at the bar, then back at the target. Although he wasn't showing it, Taehyung was more than nervous about the act he was about to commit. His record was clean for so long and it just pains him to knows he's going to mess it up all over again.
No, Tae. This is one small bad thing for one big good thing. Just do it.
He gripped the metal bar with both hands tightly, before going in for one quick swish . The cracking was heard clearly, as the side view mirror was left to hang off it's original place. They were all quiet staring at the car, all in a state of shock that Taehyung had actually done it.
"Nice one," Jeongguk muttered quietly, eyes not leaving the broken mirror.
Taehyung backed away, a laugh escaping. "Fuck, that felt nice too." Adrenaline rushed through his blood, leading him to hit the car once more, creating a slight dent above the tire. He didn't know what took over him, but he convinced himself that an extra dent wasn't going to do anything.
"Hey, leave some for us!" Saejoon yelled. The boys picked up rocks began to scratch markings of their own.
"C'mon. Let's go find a fresh wall," Taehyung suggested, but they boys seemed to have processed it as a command, getting up instantly and following after him. Jeongguk quietly scoffed at Taehyung for not realizing the power he held over them.
"Tough luck finding a fresh, we'll just spray over one," Jeongguk said. The boys began walking off and soon they found an alleyway that wasn't too marked up. They each grabbed a can, shook it furiously, and sprayed away to their hearts content. Most of the graffiti the guys drew were profanities in their own unique fonts. Taehyung, however, always went above and beyond when it came to these. He missed spray painting the most out of his old life.
"Guys! Guys! Look, I drew Minki!" Namsoon called out, laughing his head off. The rest turned their attention to look at what seemed like a donkey, and joined in with the laugher. Minki was quick to begin attacking the boy, although he couldn't help releasing laughs of his own.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" a new voice entered the scene. The boys stopped, their attention turned towards the producer, who didn't seem to be alone. "Oh my, is that our Jeonggukkie?"
The attention was now on the red-head, arms-crossed with a menacing glare, who he begun to approaching the unknown person. "What do you want?"
"You know this dude?" Taehyung asked, a little confused of the situation.
"Does he know me? Boy! Jeonggukkie, did you not tell your new friends about me?" the young man asked. They wore an unrecognizable school uniforms, meaning they couldn't be that much older.
Jeongguk rolled his eyes. "Just leave Jae, before I get pissed and do something to make you regret ever talking to me."
"Pissed? You're going to get pissed? I should the pissed one, you fucker."
"What the hell is going on. Who the fuck are you?" Saejoon barked, ready to get close and have a go at the guy, but stopped when Taehyung grabbed his arm.
"Oh, calm down there, buddy. Your little friend ain't all that. Before he was your friend he was mine. Well, pretending he was our friend. Then when we got into deep shit because of him, he shoved all the blame up our asses using his daddy's influence."
"What the fuck? My fault? It was your fucked up idea that I should've never agreed to help you with. Fucking gold diggers. You deserved whatever you got."
Jae huffed angrily. "You bastard, the fuck did you just call me?" he screamed, before lunging in to punch the red-head. The guys were shocked. Once Jeongguk lifted his face up, they could see the bloody cut at the corner of his lip. That's all it took for Taehyung to throw in a punch of his, but a thousand times stronger than the one Jae had pulled. Before the guy could regain his balance, Taehyung grabbed him by the collar, tugging him close.
"Hey!" the guys with Jae started, but quickly stopped as Namsoon, Minki, and Saejoon each got a weapon to their hands, including the metal bar. Jae's friends knew it was a fight they couldn't win.
"You listen here, whoever the fuck you are. Whatever happened with Jeongguk and you is in the past. But, if you're so determined to dig that up, you're gonna have to deal with me. Now, I can fuck up your life real good if I wanted to. So I suggest you get your ugly ass out of here," Taehyung spoke quietly, but his voice went so low that it was almost heard as just angry growls.
Jae looked at him, eyes big, before he shook himself away from the silver-haired boy. He eyed Jeongguk one last time. "Tch, fuck you. Let's go." Jae and the two other boy quickly scurried off, not even daring to look back.
"Holy shit, Tae! V!"
"Dude, that was sick."
"You showed him!"
The boys approached him and cheered him with praises, except for a certain red-head who remained in his spot with the back of his arm pressed to the cut. Taehyung nodded at the guys before going up the Jeongguk.
"Hey, you good?" the older asked, quite panicked. "Let me see." Taehyung removed the other's arm away. Jeongguk couldn't quite stop letting him examine his small wound, as he had been caught up staring at the older's worried face.
The cut didn't seem to bad, but it didn't matter, Taehyung's blood was boiling. "That fucker," he cursed, trying to get a closer look, but Jeongguk walked away.
"Whatever. Pass me a cig," the red-head said, reaching his arm out to Saejoon. The boy dug in his pocket before finding a lighter and the pack of cigarettes. Jeongguk couldn't ignore the eyes that scorched into him. "What, you want one?" he managed to say with the cigarette held between his lips.
Taehyung exhaled quite loudly before reaching out and grabbing a stick. Jeongguk passed him the lighter after giving fire to his own. The other boys each took one as well.
"Who the fuck was he?" Taehyung started, letting out a large puff of smoke. A relieved sigh escaped his lips because of the newfound warmth from the cigarette.
"Guy from my old school. Always borrowed cash from me. Before I got transferred, he wanted to pull this stunt or some shit that included explosives and I gave him money to buy them. He got caught, dragged me into it. Then my dad got involved."
"Well, shit."
After a couple minutes of just silence and the boy's killing their lungs, a chuckle was heard.
"Did you see the look on his eyes?" Jeongguk said, his laughter growing. "Shit, Tae, didn't know you had that in you. He would've pissed his pants if you threw in another punch."
"That guy was too weak, it would've been a waste."
Jeongguk's laughter grew even more, spreading to the other boys as well. They soon stopped, and got quiet once again. "Although it would've felt nice to hit him myself, thanks for doing that."
"Anytime." Taehyung sounded calm. He looked calm. He acted calm. Taehyung wasn't calm. He was angry, not only at Jae but also at Jeongguk for getting himself into situations like this. This is a perfect example of the reason why Taehyung had to stop this little wannabe gang of theirs while he can. He was lucky the boy's from his school are a loving kind of so called bad boys who cared for each other in the dumbest ways.
Jeongguk got up from the wooden crate, walking over to pick up a spray can. "Are we gonna finish these masterpieces or what?"
•—•—•
"I can't seem to get your brain anymore," Jeongguk started, breaking the silence first. After it became way past midnight, Taehyung insisted on taking Jeongguk home in case Jae popped up again, even though the younger could've protected himself. The night only got colder, and Taehyung wasn't quite sure if the boy would be able to get home without freezing to death.
Taehyung chuckled. "Why's that?"
The red-head shrugged, and just kept walking. They soon arrived to the front of his house. "What time is it?"
"Almost one thirty."
"Shit, I'm gonna have to climb over. Help me."
The older was confused at first, but understood when Jeongguk approached the wall, who was mentally making some calculations. Taehyung crouched down, and the red-head carefully placed his feet on his shoulders. Taehyung made sure to grip the other's feet tight as he raised him up.
"Can you reach it?"
"Nope," Jeongguk replied, struggle evident in his voice. "I'm gonna jump for it."
"That too ris—" Before the silver-head could finish, he felt Jeongguk's feet leave leave his grasps, but they came back just as strong, making both boys fall to the ground on top of each other. "—ky" Taehyung groaned loudly, as he had been the one to catch the fall. Jeongguk rolled to the side, leaving Taehyung's body, groaning himself.
"You good?" the younger asked, looking to his side.
"Yup, just fine!" Taehyung answered sarcastically, try to get up. He propped his weight on his elbows and turned to look back at Jeongguk. After sharing a look, the two began laughing. "That was the dumbest plan you could've thought off. Jumping a fifteen feet wall? God, Gguk you're so dumb."
"Didn't seem like you were stopping me," the red-head said between laughs.
"I did! I tried! You just didn't listen to me!"
"Whatever."
It was moments like these Taehyung enjoyed the most. Moments were it felt like Jeongguk shed of the protective layer of his bad boy facade, and was just a normal teenager. Taehyung rolled his body until it hit the younger. He laid on his side, head in the palm of his right hand, his elbow supporting him. The ground was as cold as the air, but somehow the two felt some kind of heat they couldn't explain.
"How's your lip?" the older questioned, voice coming out as a whisper. His free hand reached to slightly graze over the cut, causing Jeongguk to wince. "Shit, sorry."
"It's okay. I'll just put some ointment on it."
Taehyung nodded. He wanted to be the one to take care of the younger's wound, put ointment on it and kiss it better, but he knew that wasn't quite possible. The two stared at each other in the dark. To an outsider, they would've looked like madmen laying on the snow covered concrete, not blinking and frozen in place. But the two weren't in the real world at the moment, they were in their own. A world where eyes shined brighter than the stars, and space was non-existent. It didn't take long before Jeongguk finally felt the numbing of the tips of fingers, snapping him back to reality. He got up abruptly, leaving Taehyung in confusion at the ruined moment.
Jeongguk fished out his phone, quickly dialling a number before placing it to his ear. It ringed thrice before the call was finally answered.
"What the fuck, have you looked at the time?" a groggy voice groaned, sleepiness evident in her tone.
"Somi-ah, I need you to open the gate," Jeongguk replied, words slightly wavering as he shivered.
"What? Are you insane? Why are you out so late?"
"Just open the gate, I'll do you any favour you ask."
"A favour you say? Hmm, give me ten minutes."
"Ten minutes? I'm not asking you to make me a sandwich."
"You idiot, I have to move slow to not wake appa up."
"He's a heavy sleeper. Just hurry up."
"Okay, okay. Geez, see you in a bit."
Jeongguk hung up the line, shoving his phone back in his pocket before hugging himself. Taehyung watched as the boy shivered and did his best not to show it. He almost cooed, wanting to hug the boy and give him the last bit of warmth he had left in his body. God, there's just so many things Taehyung wanted to do to Jeongguk, and not a sinful thing was on that list... for now. He kept the love he wanted to shower on the younger all bottled up, it's bound to crack one day.
A few minutes passed before they heard the locks of the gate being unlocked. A figure covered in a huge coat peaked out of the gate, eyes going wide to see her brother had company.
"What took you so long?" Jeongguk asked as he approached the gate.
"Holy shit, did you get into a fight. Who was it this ti– holy shit, is that Kim fucking V fucking Taehyung?" she whisper yelled, her voice carrying over to the silver-head.
He quickly walked over behind Jeongguk and rested his chin on the younger's shoulder. "Hi, there," Taehyung said, flashing his million dollar smile. Somi was only able to stand there, mouth wide, eyes blinking furiously trying to confirm she wasn't hallucinating. With out being able to process the situation, Somi shut the gate, only to be reopened. She seemed a little more collected with her hair fixed up. Jeongguk only rolled his eyes, walking past her into the driveway. He stopped to see his sister wasn't following.
"Well, I better get going. Night," Taehyung said, ready to leave.
"Wait!" Somi yelled, stopping the boy in his tracks. "You're not sleeping over?"
Overhearing the girl speak, Jeongguk returned to the gate. "What the hell, Somi, leave him alone."
"Shut up! How long will it take you to get home?"
"Hmm, maybe a twenty minute walk?" Taehyung answered with a shrug.
"Are you insane? You're already trembling, and god you're white as a ghost. You're gonna die from hypothermia. Will your parents be fine with you sleeping here?"
"I don't think they'll care, as long as I don't get into shit."
Somi nodded. "So stay here for the night."
"In where? The locked guest bedrooms? I'm not sneaking into father's office," Jeongguk spoke in. "Just leave it, he'll be fine."
"Oh c'mon, Ggukie-Oppa," she said cutely. She only ever calls the older such whenever she wants something or got herself into trouble that could be resolved by him. Sometimes Jeongguk would give in just to stop her from trying to act cute.
"What'd you say, Ggukie?" Taehyung asked, a sly smirk forming over his lips with an alluring touch.
Jeongguk eyed the older. It was as if he was challenging the red-head to something, and even thought Jeongguk didn't know what the said challenge was, he was determined to win. "Do whatever you want."
