eight: take a chance
"He's not fucking here!" Hoseok burst out to the boy he pulled to the corner.
"I know, I know. Let me just te—" Taehyung started but got cut off.
"God, I knew it was a terrible idea putting him on the team."
"Wait, no, Hoseok! Maybe he just forgot!"
"Forgot my ass. It's been the talk of week, there's no way he didn't hear that he made it on the dance club list," Hoseok said, followed by a heavy sigh. "Whatever, I'll let it slide for today. But if he misses two more meetings, he's out."
The brunet groaned and pulled out his phone. He felt annoyed that he somehow took on the responsibility of taking care of a brat who couldn't give two flying fucks about others.

Taehyung locked his phone, then forced it into his pocket. He walked over to a bench and took his usual seat whenever he felt like auditing. The brunet couldn't focus as much on what they were doing today as he was quite pissed. He was just so tired of Jeongguk putting up this act of not caring. Even he himself gave into it when he began doing art, a calming hobby he's now considering as a career option. But if Jeongguk wasn't willing to budge even a little bit, there was nothing Taehyung could do about it.

After a quick game of basketball with the boys, a slightly sweaty Jeongguk entered his home to find that his dad had not yet returned from work. He released a sigh of relief— his father hates it when people sigh. The boy began making his way to the family lounge as usual to find his mother there, staring intensely at a drama. The red-head walked over and took a seat beside her.
"Oh, Gukkie, you're back. How was your day?"
"Good."
The same questions again with the same answer. Jeongguk didn't like that their conversation seemed so rehearsed.
"So, umm, I got into the dance club today, the dance team, or whatever they call it."
Mrs. Jeon's gaze immediately left the drama she was focusing so hard on to look at her son.
"D-dance? You joined the dance club?"
And for that moment, Jeongguk saw his mom again. The colours in her face for once seemed to be alive again, her eyes sparkled, the smile seemed real for, which made its way to the boy's lips as well.
"Yeah, I auditioned and got in, I guess."
"Oh that's wonderful honey!" she said, quite pleased, cupping her hand around his face. "I'm so proud of you. Tell me when you have a showcase, I'll come and watch! Fighting!" Her hand left his face to show two thumbs up.
Jeongguk hadn't seen his mother like this in a very long time. He couldn't believe something simple as him joining club could make her this excited. Although it wasn't just any club, it was the dance club, something Mrs. Jeon cherished very much during her youth.
"Uh, yeah, for sure."
She nodded. "I remember when I got into the dance team, but my parents never came to a single show," her voice became quiet again as she fiddled with her fingers.
Jeongguk has heard those lines before, along with how she had always dreamed of being a dancer since she was five. As soon as she graduated high school, she wanted to tell her parents the excited news of getting into Seoul's Dance Academy, but Mrs. Jeon's parents has a news of their own. Her parents ran a business, in which they were close partners with Jeongguk's father's family business, and to make their partnership even stronger, they had to become family. His mother always told him that she was never forced into the marriage, although Jeongguk thought otherwise. She had ended that story with, "Don't worry Gukkie, I'm very happy. God gave me you and a loving husband."
A loving husband. Jeongguk always laughed at that. He wonders what life would've been like if his father actually filled in the that role.
"Anyways! Go wash up, Auntie Cho made your favourite black bean noodles tonight."
The red-head managed to nod and make his way to his room. As he passed Somi's room, he heard her giggling over something. Jeongguk was in a good mood, so he decided to go bother his sister.
He knocked twice before opening the door. Somi was sprawled over her bed, eyes glued to phone.
"Why do you look uglier than usual?" Jeongguk questioned, walking over to take a look at what's making her sister so giddy.
"It's called a face mask you idiot."
"Which poor sucker are you trying to impress now?"
Somi scooted over to make some space for the older to sit. "Shut up, he's not a sucker."
"Anyone who's your type is a sucker."
The girl showed him her phone screen, which showed the conversation of the two discussing over a math equation before she pressed on the contact icon and a picture of a boy popped up.
"He goes to my tutor place, he's really smart. Wait! I'm pretty sure he goes to you school, y'know him?"
Jeongguk took a closer look before shaking his head.
"God you're so useless sometimes."
The older only rolled his eyes at that comment. "Is Jackson still bothering you?"
"You fucker! Jackson wasn't even bothering me! He's so sweet and you didn't even give me a proper chance to reject him nicely," Somi screamed, steaming at the sudden memory, "And now not only is Jackson staying away from me, but the entire male population at my school!"
"I don't think it's me that's making the guys go that."
She found the pillow closest to her and threw it hard at her brother, who dodged quickly.
"I think you're taking the protective brother role a little too seriously."
Jeongguk smiled and ruffled her hair. "You're welcome." He left his hand sit on her hand head for a while before quickly gathering it up and bringing it all to the front. Jeongguk ran for it and was able to close the door just in time so that the pillow hit the door. Somi stared at her door with anger and confusion. Her brother seemed to be more friendly today. She shrugged it off as she continued texting the cute boy.
The red-head on the other hand, had a lot thinking to do. He's never hated the idea of dance, he enjoyed dancing along with his mother to random beats since he was young. Although, those were just silly times and they never had an audience, but it's not like he had stage fright. The only thing he could possibly contemplate about now was his reputation. What would everyone think if someone like Jeon Jeongguk joined the dance club, went to nation wide competitions and pranced around on a stage. But when has Jeongguk ever gave a fuck about what other people thought? The boy sighed, shaking his head so his hair would fall over his eyes, and was disappointed when they didn't due to the gel in his hair. He decided to go take that shower, remembering there was great food awaiting him downstairs.

"So is he gonna come tomorrow or not?" Hoseok questioned as he munched on a piece of fry.
The table stayed silent as they stared at Taehyung to answer, who kept his gaze fixed on his sketchbook.
"Tae, he's asking you," Namjoon pointed at, tapping his knee.
"How the fuck would I know? I'm not his babysitter."
The boys sighed. "See, we told you he was a lost cause."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."
They heard a loud screech, all turning to the producer of the sound, to see Jeongguk dragging a chair and placing it facing outwards at their table. He took a seat by putting his legs on either sides of the chair.
"Okay, look," the red-head stared staring directly at Hoseok. "I know I missed the first meeting, but I can still come to the next, right?"
The older froze with a fry to his mouth. "Am I being punked?"
Jimin rolled his eyes. "Tomorrow, at four, Studio 2."
"Thanks, Shorty." With that, Jeongguk left, not even bothering to take the chair with him.
The boys turned to look at Taehyung, who's mouth was wide before it turned into a smile.
"Shit y'all, I think I'm cracking the bad boy," he said before grabbing his sketchbook and bag. He began running in the direction of the younger.
"I ain't that short," Jimin said, leaning back in his share with a pout a she crossed his arms.
"Aww, how cute," Namjoon cooed, ruffling the blond's hair. It's like he made it his job to point out whenever Jimin showed off a little bit of his cute side, and it always managed to make him blush.
"Gguk!" Taehyung managed to catch up to the red-head who was making way to the parking lot.
"What?"
"What made you change your mind?"
"All you need to know is that it wasn't for you."
Taehyung chuckled lightly. "It doesn't matter. Make sure you show up tomorrow!"
"Yeah yeah, now leave," Jeongguk said coldly, looking around the parking lot as if he was searching for someone.
"Why?" Taehyung whined.
"Because I'm going to fucking ditch. Unless Mr. Goody wants to join?"
The brunet wanted to wipe that smirk right off the younger's face. He stared at Jeongguk for a good two seconds before harshly pinching the boy's ears and dragging him back into the school.
"Ow! Ow, fuck! Let go yo– Ow!" Jeongguk began screaming. Luckily the hallways were empty so no one could here the pleads of the red-head.
Taehyung finally let of of the younger's ear. Jeongguk rubbed his ear, hoping the pain would go away. He looked back at the smiling boy with the most meanest glare he can make up at that moment, although that had no affect on him.
"Why the fuck are we here?" Jeongguk asked as he saw they had made there way to the art hall.
"You'll see," the other said before knocking once on the door and opening it. He peaked his head in to see no one in there. Taehyung bravely entered the room, and Jeongguk followed.
He watched as the older began getting out items from different cabinets.
"What're you scheming now, Softie? Ain't scared of the teacher catching you?"
"Stop callin' me Softie. And being the art club's vice-president has its perks. Just wait, you'll see."
Jeongguk crossed his arm as he took a seat on a random stool. He in fact did want to see what in the world the boy had in mind for today.
