14) The unrevealed secret

Bella was furious. She ran upstairs to her room and banged the door shut. She flung herself onto her bed. Any other girl would have let out her anger in the form of tears, but Bella was not 'any other girl'. She was one of the five chosen ones.

They were any different as day and night, as black and white, as sky and earth. As different as they could be, but they had one quality in common, they were all very brave.

So, Bella did not cry. Instead, she let the extreme power radiate from her furious heart to her arms and sent it to her hands. She clenched her hands into fists and eyed the large cupboard with anger. Her eyes burned as if needles were being inserted into them, but this particular feeling did not hurt her. It made her feel special. Powerful. In control.

She opened her fists as she jerked her hands downwards. BOOM! The huge cupboard crashed to the floor. Lots of bangs were heard from within.

Bella got into her bed and covered her face with her fluffy pink blanket. After a few minutes she heard someone knocking at the door. She ignored the sound and closed her eyes.

"Belladona dear, I need to talk to you," said her mother in her sweetest voice.

"I don't," yelled Bella.

"That's a bit harsh," said her mother and opened the door.

"What the? I mean how did this happen?" she pointed to the fallen cupboard, "I thought the bang came from the attic. Don't tell me you made it fall," she said by way of joke but Bella stiffened.

"How could I make a huge cupboard like that fall," said Bella.

"Just asking. How did it fall?" mused her mother, "I will have someone look into the matter. You could have been standing near it when it fell."

Bella rolled her eyes.

"That's immature, Belladona," her mother said, annoyed.

"Whatever!" said Bella.

"See! That's why I don't want you making conversation with people of lower class. Thay don't have any manners. And now you are starting to talk like them," said her mother.

"Blah, blah, blah!" said Bella.

"How dare you behave like that?" hissed her mother, her eyes wide.

"How dare you behave like that?" mimicked Bella in a high pitched, baby voice.

"Well, I don't think we have to keep this up any longer," said her mother to herself, gave Bella a sad look and left.

Bella shrugged off her mother's odd behaviour. She got out of bed and closed the door before bursting into laughter. That felt good! Being cheeky and using 'lowdown' language in front of her mother always made her feel happy.

She picked up her tablet and noted Jane's number on her diary. Her mother might delete it from her tablet.

She called Jane to give her the news, "hi! This is Belladona speaking."

"Oh, hello Bella. Jane here."

"How you doin'" said Bella, hesitating a bit.

"So cute," squealed Jane, where did you pick that one from?"

"I apologise for..."

"No need to apologise for using normal language."

"If you don't mind, can you elaborate that?"

"I mean to say that you use words that are formal. In fact, they are more than formal. They are high and mighty. If you get what I mean."

"How can I change my manner of speaking?"

"Don't worry, Jane the informal English master to the rescue. You can start by using words such as silly, idiot, dumb, nincompoop; after every single sentence."

"But they don't sound appropriate."

"They are, silly. You'll eventually get used to them."

"Okay silly. I'll try, thanks a lot, dumb."

"You sound rude, Bella," said Jane jokingly.

"Sorry, nincompoop," said Bella at once.

"I'm such a good teacher," laughed Jane.

"Um, Jane?"

"What is it? Is something bothering you?"

"Yes, I want to bring this into your notice..."

"Hold it, Bella. Say, I wanna tell you..."

"Right, I want, sorry, wanna tell you that I'm moving away."

"What? Where?" shrieked Jane.

"To... uh, I have no idea."

"I know how complicated your life is, so let's just talk about something else. Something amazing."

"Like what?" asked Bella.

"NUTELLA!" yelled Jane.

"Ferrero Rocher is way better."

"No way!"

Bella was laughing when the intercom bell rang again.

"Hold on a minute," said Bella to Jane and pressed the green button before speaking into the mouthpiece, "yes, Bella speaking."

"Your mother says..." The secretary's voice was interrupted by the sound of the door being opened.

Bella mother rushed in, looking appalled.

She switched off the intercom and said hurriedly, "Bella we need to leave, now."

"Why?" asked Bella.

"No questions," she yelled and grabbed her by her arm and dragged her towards the door.

"My phone!" said Bella, struggling to get out of her mother's hard grasp.

"No!" said her mother and pushed her towards the stairs.

Bella was both astonished and angry at her mother. Never in a thousand years she could have imagined her mother could raise her voice, let alone rush into her room and drag her our.

Her mother kicked off her heels before running barefoot down the stairs, dragging Bella along.

She dragged her through the front door towards the car in the driveway. Then she pulled open the backdoor, pushed Bella inside and sat on the passenger's seat at the front. Before she had even closed the door, Bella's father pressed his foot on the accelerator and the car jerked forwards.

Her father brought the car to the main road and was deftly steering it through the heavy traffic.

"What is happening?" asked Bella, rubbing her arm where her mother had grasped hold of her, "isn't this car too lowdown for you?"

Her parents kept their mouths shut. Silence hung in the car till they reached the highway.

"I demand to know where you are taking me," shouted Bella

"A young lady never loses her temper," said her father calmly.

That made her shout all the more loudly, "I AM NOT A LADY."

"Yes, dear. Stop pestering her," said her mother.

What the? Was she heating alright?

"I thought you wanted to..." began her father.

"Yes, I wanted to. But now, it's all over. There no need to act silly. It'll make us stick out," said her mother.

"What do you mean? Am I missing something?" asked Bella.

"No dear, everything's fine. We just think you need a new makeover. Something which makes you blend in with normal girls," said her mother.

"Why?" asked Bella. "I thought you hated normal people."

"I don't," sighed her mother.

"Then?"

"Leave it, Bella."

"I have the right to know. This is my life you are talking about. I don't want you to play with it anymore," yelled Bella.

"We're not playing with it, dear, we're saving it. Trust me," said her mother.

"Why should I trust you? What have you done for me?" said Bella angrily.

Her mother turned to fave her in the back seat, "I'm sorry Bella, for everything," she said, sadness filled her eyes.

It was the first time her mother had called her Bella, instead of Belladona.

Bella decided to remain quiet for the time being.

After sometime the silence of the car was broken by a rock and roll song.

"Want is that?" Bella jumped.

"Nothing to worry about. It's just my ring tone sweetie," said her mother.

"That is something to be worried about," she said and thought, 'could this day get any stranger?'

Apparently it could, cause her mother was talking on the phone in normal language and not in the fake tone which she normally used. When she finished her conversation, Bella's father took the phone and flung it out of the window. Not angrily tough.

"Don't want them tracking us," he mumbled.

"What's gotten into you both?" asked Bella.

"Nothing, dear," said her mother, giving her a warm smile which surprised her.

She stopped trying to figure something out and closed her eyes to relax.

She was just snoozing off when she hear a mechanical voice say, "the bomb will go off in, 10... 9... 8..."

Her father pulled over.

"7... 6..." said the voice.

"JUMP!" shouted her father.

"5... 4... 3..."

They opened the doors and flung themselves as far as they could.

"2... 1... 0."

BOOM!

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. The sound blocked their ears, the impact threw them off their feet and they went, face first, crashing onto the road.

Blackness enveloped their minds, forever.
