~Inari's POV~
::Flashback::
Inari-18
Hitoshi-11
I got home after a double shift at the shitty restaurant I'd been serving at for the past two years to try to save up enough to get the hell out of my parents house. The moment I opened the door I was hit with the familiar smell of alcohol and cigarette smoke. My ears were immediately assaulted as the drunk asshole who fathered me and my kid brother was yelling about who the hell knew what. A new sound struck my ears, a loud violent sound and I watched in horror as Hitoshi fell into view, stumbling out of the kitchen clutching at his face.
Time seemed to freeze in that moment as Hitoshi hit the ground. I felt a rage I'd never felt before bubble up inside of me. Mother was screaming in the background, making father angrier. I stepped over Hitoshi as father lumbered out of the kitchen in a drunken rage. He looked at me and opened his mouth to yell something.
I grabbed him by the neck and activated my quirk. "Smash that bottle over your head and go to sleep." I hissed.
His eyes went blank and I stepped away from him as he smashed the half full bottle of whiskey over his head and dropped to the ground.
"What did you do?!" Mother shrieked.
I ignored her as I helped Hitoshi off the floor. There was a bruise forming over his right eye. "Pack some shit, we're leaving."
He looked beyond me to our still screaming mother. His indigo eyes filled with hesitation.
"I'll deal with it, just go pack some shit, only what you need." I sighed.
He shakily nodded and ducked past our screaming mother to do as I said.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" Mother raged at me.
"Something I should have done a long time ago." I growled as I dug into my bag for the guardianship papers I'd printed on a whim, for the day they pushed me too far. I thrust the papers at her. "Sign these."
"The hell are they?!" She snapped.
I grabbed her by the wrist and activated my quirk, "sign the fucking papers!"
Hitoshi returned with a backpack in hand. He watched as our mother blankly did as she was bid. "Nee-san?"
"It's fine. Everything's going to be fine." I reassured him.
Once my mother signed the papers she handed them back to me, returning to what little senses she had. "You're leaving?"
"Yep. Let's go, Hitoshi." I tucked the papers in my bag and followed my younger brother to the door.
"What about us?" Mother asked, her words slurring together.
"I don't care, drown yourselves in alcohol, overdose on drugs, kill each other, whatever you do leave us the fuck alone. You're not our problem anymore." I said coolly and slammed the door shut behind me.
I jumped as my alarm wailed on my phone. A robotic voice began chiming in an annoying tone, "UA Exam day! UA Exam day! GET YOUR ASS UP!"
"Why did I decide that was the alarm to go with?" I groaned and picked my phone up off my nightstand. I struggled for a moment to get it to shut up before rolling out of bed to wake up Hitoshi. It felt like I'd barely gotten any sleep at all. I glanced down at the clock, it was 7am, I'd gotten home from work at 4am. A groan escaped me as I realized I'd gotten less than 3 hours of sleep.
I scrambled out of my room in a hurry "Hitoshi! Time to get ready!"
His bedroom door opened and he stepped into the hall and quickly shielded his eyes, "I thought you were leaving your work...at work..." He groaned.
I glanced down and realized I was still wearing the very risque burlesque attire from my shift at the strip club last night. "Sorry!" I flew back into my room and continued yelling through the door. "Do you have everything you need for your exam?!"
"Yes. I already told you, you didn't have to wake up to see me off." Hitoshi sighed from the hall as I threw on a robe and returned to the hall.
"It's a big day! I wanted to make sure I got to wish you luck." I smiled and gave him a big hug. "And I'm going to make you some breakfast." I pulled back and attempted to tame his unruly mop of indigo hair.
"Nee-san...you don't have to do that." Though he was doing his moody teen routine and trying to push me away, he reluctantly accepted my doting and offered me a smile.
"Nonsense, a yummy breakfast can make all the difference in the world." I pinched his cheeks to annoy him before rushing to the kitchen.
Hitoshi followed me, frowning as he saw me tuck some past due bills into a drawer. "...I could get a part time job to help out." He offered.
"Absolutely not." I shot that idea down quickly.
"Nee-san...I wouldn't mind-."
"I mind. You are going to follow your dreams, go to your dream school, become an amazing hero and then and only then will I let you take care of me." I smiled.
"Why are so many of them past due?" He asked as he opened the drawer of bills.
"Don't worry about it. I got some new clients at the club, and they tip really well, so I will take care of it." I swatted at him and shooed him away from the drawer.
Hitoshi sighed and went to sit at the table as I hurriedly whipped up some breakfast. I didn't need him worrying, his school fees had gone up and it was a bit more than I'd been prepared for so I had to put off a few bills.
"...I don't like your new job..." He mumbled.
"I don't either, but it pays a lot better than serving did. Besides, I have some really nice clients and most of the staff is cool." I reassured him.
"Isn't your boss a creep?" Hitoshi frowned.
"How would you know?" I turned to him.
"You talk in your sleep...more accurately you were yelling at him in your sleep for being a creep." He pointed. "I could hear you in my room."
"Sleep screaming...that's going to be fun when I start dating again." I groaned.
Hitoshi cracked a smile, "Nee-san, that's not even your biggest problem."
"If you say one thing about my choice in movies, I will yeet you out the window." I growled.
"Have you even watched a movie that wasn't animated?" He poked at me.
"Keep it up and I'll make you yeet yourself out the window." I threatened him.
"Your quirk doesn't work on me." He stuck his tongue out at me childishly.
I set an omelet in front of him and pinched his cheeks again for good measure until he swatted me away from him. I sat with him as he ate his breakfast.
"Make sure you call me as soon as you're done with your exams, so you can let me know how it went."
"You'll be sleeping and it's not like we'll get the results today." He pointed rationally.
"I know, but I want to hear how it went."
Hitoshi smiled, "fine."
Once he finished his breakfast I waved him off so I could do his dishes, "get some money out of my purse for transportation and something so you can get yourself some lunch or something after."
"I'll just eat when I get home." He reassured me and gave me a hug as I was doing dishes. "Love you, Nee-san."
"Love you too, brat. Good luck on your exam." I beamed.
Hitoshi smiled and took his leave.
Since I was awake, I cleaned the whole apartment from top to bottom, leaving Hitoshi's room alone as he was a teenage boy and I had no desire to be traumatized. Once the apartment was spotless I whipped up a batch of cookies and set them out on the table with a note for Hitoshi that read 'good job on the exam!' in case I was asleep when he returned home.
After getting everything clean, organized and set up for Hitoshi, I trudged to my room and passed out atop my bed.
