"Wow, there's a wide range of scores there," Lilly said, coming up behind Mack. The Head Gamemaker groaned, closing her tablet. Whenever she was working, the announcers always showed up.
"I gave each of them the score I thought they should have. No, I will not elaborate," she said, as Kefi opened her mouth to speak. Then she got a call on her ear headset, and walked a little further away.
"Yes, Alcon? What is it?" she asked, making sure that the announcers couldn't hear her.
"It's about the arena, you should probably come in here," her assistant replied. She heard the sound of frantic running through the headset, and her assistant say something about President Jay. Then the call was ended, and she turned to look at the announcers.
"Who is Alcon?" Suzz asked, looking curious. The camera crew inched closer, and Mack scowled.
"I have work to do. Please don't try to follow me. The Games will begin soon enough," she replied, before striding off towards the control room. When she finally got there, she burst in through the door, only to see President Jay standing next to Alcon. Fitz, another one of her assistants, ran up next to her.
"President Jay wants a run through of what the tributes will see when they enter the arena. Just go show him, we'll take care of the programming," the short man whispered, running a hand through his sandy hair. Mack nodded, walking over to Alcon and President Jay.
"Hello, sir. The Gamemakers are currently getting the program ready. It'll only be a few moments. Alcon, why don't you go help Fitz?" she suggested. The Assistant Gamemaker looked at her gratefully, before running off to one of the screens.
"Very good, Mack. I assume you're going to make this a spectacular games, correct?" President Jay said. Mack gulped, sensing the threatening tone behind the statement.
"Of course, sir. Now, if you'll just follow me to the testing room?" she replied, walking towards a connecting door. He followed her, as she walked into the dark room. Once she closed the door, the walls lit up, showing that they were actually screens. An image came into view, of a Cornucopia in the middle of an open field. A quarter mile away, all the way around the structure, stood towering cliffs 50 feet tall. There were three gaps in the circle of cliffs, each an equal distance apart.
"As you can see, sir, the cliffs have been made to funnel the tributes in one of three directions. The one facing north starts in a gradual incline, covered in frosty grass. That's as far as the tributes will be able to see, sir. It'll be covered in a misty fog past that. The fog will be good for hiding in. Building would be useful there, too. The southwest exit is level, and they'll be able to see lightly swaying grass as far as they can see, as well as a few trees. That direction will be where most of the tributes go, I predict. But there aren't many places to hide for the first few miles. The faster tributes and the ones with superior battle skills will do good there. To the southeast, it's a gradual decline with sand as far as they can see. In that direction, they'll have to rely more on charisma. It'll be harder to get a good foothold in the sand. However, very few tributes should go that way, so less confrontation over there. There's enough for the tributes to survive in all of the directions, they'll just have to find it," Mack told him, pointing to each location she mentioned. "Many of the packs have maps, plus there are some loose ones in the Cornucopia, sir". President Jay nodded, clasping his hands behind his back.
"Very good work, Mack. I can't wait to see this in action. Make the rest of the Games this good, and you won't have to worry about anything," he replied. Mack gulped, and he grinned. Then he walked out of the room, leaving her to look at the screens.
Finally, the Games will begin! In order of running speed, I will contact you about what you want to do. Keep in mind, you will eventually have to choose one of the exits, or fight to keep control of the Cornucopia. Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
