Maximus and Ripley were hidden in the bushes, well-camouflaged. Together, they had decided to stay where they were, and avoid confrontation. But what they hadn't expected was for a tribute to find them.

As they remained camouflaged in the bushes, Glint suddenly came into view. With a mixture of shock and horror, Maximus tightly gripped his spear.

Thoughts ran through his head. They could deal with Glint now, he knew that. If it came down to just him and Glint in the end, he would lose. Plus, they had the benefit of surprise.

He just needed Ripley to hold Glint still with his net. It would reduce Glint's fighting capabilities, and give him a chance to win. Then, once Glint was dead, they would deal with the other pair of tributes.

Maximus motioned to Glint, making it very clear what he wanted Ripley to do. The small boy shook his head. Maximus did it again, forcefully, making it clear that it was an order. Full of dread, Ripley picked up his net, and leapt out to throw it over Glint.

As the chains went over Glint's head, he whirled around, smacking Ripley with his metal shield. The boy went flying, and landed on the grass, unconscious. But the net was already over Glint's head. Maximus leapt out, brandishing his spear.

Glint barely managed to deflect the first blow with his shield. Maximus continued to stab, waiting for a moment to make the final blow. He saw it, and lunged forward.

His spear went through Glint's throat. The boy's blue eyes were triumphant, however. Maximus didn't know why. Then, he felt a sharp pain in his stomach.

He looked down, only to see Glint's sword piercing his abdomen. Of course. All Glint had done was held the sword through one of the gaps in the chains. He had speared himself on the sword when he had lunged.

Glint collapsed to the ground first. The cannon went off. Maximus made sure to hold onto the sword when Glint fell. He winced in pain, and fell to his knees.

Leif and Maddox were waiting in the trap they had set for Glint when the cannon went off. They immediately went alert.

"Someone just died. I bet Glint went around to sneak up on us, but encountered the survivors of the other group," Leif whispered to Maddox.

Maddox peered through the leaves, looking for any sign of an approaching tribute. "If Glint had won, two cannons would have gone off. I believe he's dead" He turned to look at Leif. "What do we do now?"
