"HUNTER!" a lone voice cried from among the chained captives as pain dragged down his left side, staining his clothes dark red and leaving a warm feeling against his skin. 

"No!" the same voice yelled again when he toppled forward from a kick to the back of the head. "Leave him alone! Stop it!"

"Enough, Human," snapped a voice full of annoyance and arrogance from behind him, followed by the crack of a whip and a cry of pain. "Your protests will get you nowhere."

Hunter crumpled onto his hands and knees at another blow to his skull.

But no matter how hard or how long they beat him, he would not make a sound.

"You have associated yourself with three of the Humans," said the voice behind him. "I'm sure you are well aware that such a deed is against our law." 

Hunter didn't care.

He had chosen to stay with them.

"Do you know the punishment for such crimes?" 

Hunter didn't care. He knew that he would find away to avoid the punishment, and even if he couldn't, he could fight his way out. He always found a way. After all, he was a skilled Shukra - thief. 

"Death," said the male Wholf behind him, striking Hunter's head with his fist again. "The punishment, Hunter Lynex, is death."

Well, this was kind of short, but it's just the preface (for those who don't understand, a preface is a part of the book that will happen later, just giving you a little "preface". Sorry if I'm kind of making you seem stupid or you're like "I ALREADY KNEW THAT!" I just wanted to clear that up in case someone didn't know. XD).
