Contrast (Full Story)

It was February 29th in Sunshine High, a school where everyone was free to share what they were. There were several cliques there, the artists, Goths, Popular girls, Leadership, Band kids, and more. And then there was, Sadie. A free spirit who even though she was autistic, didn't let that get in the way of her dreams of making friends. She used to have a friend by her side, Makenna. Even though Makenna wasn't nice to her at times, Sadie still stuck by her. Makenna was now by her friends playing a game of Chess. "Ugh, come on, we don't have all day." Her friend Celine grumbled in impatience. "Okay! Just let me do this." Makenna scrambled to find her next move, But then she heard a voice. "KENNA! Kenna!" It was Sadie! She ran over to her to introduce herself to her friends. "Isn't that the autistic kid that just transferred?" Makennas other friend, Adeline said while laughing. "Didn't you used to be friends with her or something?" Celine asked. "No! Why would I be friends with a loser like her." Makenna snarked. Sadie looked over to the see that the girls were almost done with their game. "Don't do that! She'll put you in checkmate!" Sadie said worried about her friend losing. "Does it look like I asked you?" Makenna chuckled as she gave an innocent smile at her. "Just be quiet, I know what I'm doing." Makenna said as she looked away. "But, I can help you get out of it!" Sadie said as she wanted to help her friend. "Look. I don't need any help from some AUTISTIC kid! Alright?!" Makenna yelled at Sadie. Makenna got back to her game, but ended up losing. "Haha! Checkmate! I win!" Celine yelled with pride. "What?! But how?!" Makenna said screaming with confusion. "I told you that was gonna happen." Sadie whispered looking away. "JUST STOP! YOUR NOT SMART ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND HOW CHESS WORKS! NOW GET LOST!" Makenna yelled in spite, making Sadie scared. Sadie knew she wasn't wanted at that moment and she walked away.

In the Math Class, Molly, the teacher was keeping score for todays math contest. "Done!" The rival team said as they showed their answer. "That's correct! Well done!" Molly said smiling. The other team grumbled as they were at a loss. "Now, The next team to get this right gets extra credit!" The teacher said beaming. "Okay, who should we choose to go?" Makenna said huddling to Celine and Adeline. "OO! Me! ME!" Sadie said with excitement. "No! There's no way you will get it right! You probably don't even know Kindergarten math." Makenna said while laughing at poor Sadie. "Okay! Have you decided?" The teacher said. "Oh! I'd like to-" "I'll go." Makenna interrupted Sadie, ruining their chance. "Okay! Ready? Set! Go!" Molly smiled as the teams got to work. Sadie tried to look over to help them. "Maybe you try putting-" "QUIET! If I can't get it, You can't either." Makenna whisper-yelled to Sadie. "Done!" The other team said showing their answer. "That's correct! Good job! You get the extra credit!" The teacher smiled as the other team grumbled in spite. "Dangit! This isn't fair! I don't know how we're going to win with Special Needs Sadie on our team." Makenna looked straight at Sadie when that happened. Sadie sighed somberly as she looked away to avoid further confrontation.

Then, It was the model tryouts, The greatest girls can go on to be in a magazine. "We have got this in the bag!" Makenna smiled as Celine and Adeline followed, But Adeline couldn't keep her balance and fell down, Spraining her ankle. "OW! My ankle! It hurts!" Adeline yelled in pain. "Come on, Lets do a game plan." Makenna grabbed Adelines hand as she helped her up and Celine followed. "I can't guys, I'm sorry. My ankle hurts, I can't be in the contest." Adeline sorrowfully said as she walked away. "Man, Now what?" Makenna looked away. "I can be one!" Sadie smiled as she walked towards them. "No Sadie, Go away, You'll never be one for sure." Makenna shoved her away. "But I've been practicing on how my hair looks! I'm really good! I promise!" Sadie said begging to be with her friends. "Well, We do need a third person." Celine said looking at Makenna. Sadie smiled because this would be her chance! "I'd rather it just be two people." Makenna smirked and looked at Sadie, who was rightfully crushed. "Come on!" Makenna said grabbing Celine's hand. Sadie sat back down, sighing in shame. The tryouts were neck and neck, But then a message came. "Sorry but, Two people can't be just in the model show, You guys are benched temporarily." The manager said as the two walked away. "God! This sucks!" Makenna sighed in anger. "Makenna? Why didn't you put me in?" Sadie looked over to Makenna, who was giving her the death glare. "We were friends since 5th grade, You've seen me!" Sadie sighed as Celine looked at her. "What is she talking about? Were you friends with her actually?" Celine said as she looked back at Sadie. "What. No. I would never be friends with a dumb girl like her." Makenna said as Sadie's eyes widened. "But I'm.." "A NOBODY!" Makenna screamed as she grabbed the collar of Sadies shirt, with Sadie rightfully terrified. "YOUR JUST AN AUTISTIC GIRL! WHO WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING RIGHT IN LIFE! WHY DON'T YOU JUST GET OUT OF HERE! SPECIAL NEEDS SADIE!" Makenna screamed as she threw Sadie to the ground. Sadie laid there before getting up, and bursting into tears, running away. Celine and Adeline just stood there as Makenna smiled. But then, A voice! "Makenna!" It was Molly! "How could you say that to Sadie?!" Molly said as Makenna stood there. "I-I was just joking!" Makenna said obviously lying. "No. In the resource room. NOW!" Molly said pointing to it, looking very stern. Makenna grumbled and walked off with Molly, leaving Celine and Adeline there, they decided to do something, Go find Sadie!

Makenna sat at the desk sulking as Molly was on the phone. "Oh yes, We are in room 601. Great." Molly said as she put down the phone, looking at Makenna. "The resource teacher is here." Molly said as Makenna swore under her breath. Then he walked in, a sad look on his face. "Hello, I'm so sorry." Mr Kelly said sighing in shame. "Its okay!" Molly said as Mr Kelly stood next to Makenna. "Makenna? What did you do." Mr Kelly said sternly as Makenna sulked more. "Nothing." Makenna snarled at Mr Kelly. "Well, She called Sadie, Special Needs Sadie during our model tryouts, and wouldn't let her try to be one." Molly said explaining. "How could you DO THAT?! To your old friend." Mr Kelly said angrily as Makenna just scoffed it off. "I am so disappointed in you." Mr Kelly growled as Makenna looked shocked. "What?! It's not my fault she's autistic and has a disability!" Makenna yelled as Mr Kelly looked in shock. "Is that what this is about? Makenna. Just because Sadie is autistic doesn't mean she isn't less capable than you or I." Mr Kelly softly said, trying to calm her down. "What are you talking about?! Of course she is!" Makenna yelled in pure spite. "Oh, You will see, Starting today, I want you to be nice to her, and include her in everything." Mr Kelly said blunt as Makennas jaw dropped. "NO WAY! THAT'S SO UNFAIR!" Makenna screamed at Mr Kelly. "Oh? Well it's either that, Or be suspended, for a MONTH. So, What's it going to be." Mr Kelly said as Makenna was close to her breaking point. "YOU KNOW WHAT?! NO! I DON'T CARE WHAT SHE THINKS! AND I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK! SHE IS JUST A STUPID AUTISTIC WHO IS DUMB AND CAN'T DO ANYTHING RIGHT!" Makenna screamed as Mr Kelly kept his cool. But then, he grabbed her hand. "Okay. Suspension it is. Come on, off to the principal." Mr Kelly said as Makenna kept yelling.

In the courtyard, Sadie quietly sobbed as the comment kept playing in her mind. Until she heard another voice. "Sadie!" It was Celine and Adeline, running over to her. "Oh, What do you want. Come to call me Special Needs?" Sadie said cold hearted. "No, To tell you the truth, we're really sorry on what Makenna said." The two girls said as they looked at her. "You are..?" Sadie said as she wiped her tears. "Of course! We used to be fake friends of hers too, She treated us harsh, so we know." The two said as they smiled. "Can we..Maybe be friends?" Sadie shakily asked. "OF COURSE!" The girls said smiling bright. "Wait! Later is the final tryouts for the fashion models! Why don't you join us?" The girls questioned as they helped Sadie up. "I would love too!" Sadie said while beaming with excitement. And so, the three ran off to the final tryouts, and the announcer said. "You guys were amazing! Your in!" The three girls cheered as Adeline and Celine hugged Sadie close. "It's like they say, No matter if your autistic, You can still do it all!" The girls said as they laughed.
