▪ THIRTY-SIX

It was half past six in the evening when Jungkook arrived at the college. He stopped his car in front of the entrance. His head turned left and right, before stepping out of the car to look for Nahee's whereabouts.

He walked to the car's front boot and then rested his butt on it. He exhaled a sigh as he thought Nahee might have something with her college mates at this hour.

A few students left the college when the time reached six past fifty. As the man heard the students' chatterings and the noises of footsteps, he pushed himself up from the boot, waiting for Nahee's sight.

The students dispersed to different directions, making their group smaller than earlier. He was looking for Nahee yet, there was no figure of her. He mumbled, "where is she?"

Coincidentally after that, his phone rang and Nahee's name was shown on the screen. He answered the call, "hello."

"Where are you?"

"In front of your college. Where are you?"

"I'm at a shop, buying drinks and snacks for us."

"What for?"

"You said we're going to grab a drink later. I know you're going to insist these going to be on you. So, I'm buying these earlier before it happens."

Jungkook let out a soft laugh, smiling lightly. "Okay."

"I'm paying right now. Ah! Do you want anything? "

"Nah. Just whatever you buy is fine for me."

"Okay then. How about we're going to Han River after this?"

"Not bad idea," Jungkook said, still smiling. "Where should I wait for you by the way?"

"Just wait for me there."

Jungkook chuckled. "Okay."

"Well then, see you later!"

Still smiling lightly, he clicked the red button. He exhaled a deep breath, gently resting himself on front trunk as he observed the surrounding.

The evening breeze blowing across him featuring Nahee's voice in his mind cooled down the mess that nestled inside. He was glad that Nahee called at that time. That time when he almost lost his mind.

He was deep in his mind when he felt something blew him from behind and a gruff "boo!" was heard. He jumped as he turned his head to look behind.

The culprit laughed out loud when she saw Jungkook's wide eyes and mouth opened ajar. The plastics in her hands swung back and forth as she laughed, bending her back to the front.

Jungkook let out an exasperated sigh with a mumble, "aish..." Nahee couldn't stop laughing, and that made the man to watch with both of his hands held his hips with his lips pressed together.

Seeing that Jungkook didn't seem to be happy with her prank, Nahee immediately stopped. She stood straight with her hands clasped together, the plastics in her hands bumped against one another. The girl looked down like an obedient child getting scold by her parents.

"I'm sorry," Nahee said with a low voice. "It's been quite long since we met. I miss you. We can hardly call, we exchanged messages often but I don't feel it's enough, so I played a prank on you." The girl's voice kept shrinking as went on with her words. She then pouted when she ended.

Jungkook's arms folded, staring at Nahee with his chin up. He kept quiet for awhile, and then said, "how about picking you up today? Is it a prank too?"

Nahee gasped and then stuttered, "oh no no no no. T-this isn't a prank. Uhm... My mother is in Daejeon for work. Joonie oppa has to take care of Eerin eonni, I don't want to trouble my brother."

Jungkook nodded lightly. He then placed his hands on his thighs to make his height just right to face Nahee near. "You miss me?"

Nahee bobbed her head up and down.

"How much?" The contracted boyfriend asked.

"A lot!"

Jungkook curved a coy smirk. He then questioned, "how much is that 'a lot'?"

Nahee hummed before saying, "very much that it can't fit my heart?" She then tilted her head.

Jungkook scoffed. Without more questions and unexpectedly, he opened his arms while looking elsewhere. On the other hand, Nahee was questioning what that action was supposed to mean. Her lips curved downward as if she was judging her contracted boyfriend.

With his face still not facing the girl but his eyes was looking at her, he uttered, "did you miss me or not?"

"I did. No, I mean, I do!"

"Still missing me even now?"

Nahee bobbed her head once.

"Come and hug me, or else –"

Jungkook wasn't able to finish  his word as Nahee quickly wrapped her arms around him. The contents in the plastics bumped against his butt and his thighs. The cold tins inside the plastic made Jungkook froze. "This," he paused with a sigh. "This isn't romantic. You should have dropped them down!"

"That only happens in drama." Nahee raised her head to stare at him with a funny looking smile on her face.

Jungkook scoffed. "Don't ruin your pretty face like that."

Nahee laughed. She had fun being a dork that day. While Jungkook couldn't help but to feel happier than earlier. He laughed as he remembered the funny smile that Nahee created.

**********

They reached at Han River and chose to sit at bench, facing the river. The cresent moonlight shone the river with the lights from bridge. Two or three yachts were passing by, as an annoying sip sounds from the couple broke the silence at the park.

Snacks weren't enough. They finished the snacks in the car, so they bought and heated corndogs from a convenient store nearby. With a corndog in right hand while the left hand held a coke, both of them raised up their right hands and bit the corndog.

Nahee couldn't bit the hot corndog. She yelped and then, grimaced at the heat with her lips tightly pursed to cool down her teeth. On the other hand, Jungkook  managed to get a big bite with difficulty. He was struggling, his head was moving side to side to move the content in his mouth. A big sigh was released with hot vapor when he stopped shaking his head.

Nahee noticed that. "I'm jealous you can do that."

With his nose still flaring due to the heat and mouth chewing the food inside, Jungkook's head turned to made a glance at Nahee with his eyebrows raised. "Do you want to bite mine instead?"

"It won't be satisfying if I bite something that's already bitten. I don't understand why couples do this."

With mouth full due to another bigger bite, Jungkook answered, "das womantic akshually."

"Pardon?"

"Itsh womantic."

"Oh, Jeon Jungkook. Finish your food first!" Nahee scolded while looking at him amusingly.

The man's cheeks puffed because of the content inside his mouth. He smiled at her with that look. Nahee couldn't help but giggled at that.

Once swallowed his food, Jungkook repeated his words. "I said, that is romantic."

Nahee looked at him with a few blinks. After that, she muttered, "ew. The saliva on the food though."

"What? Kissing has saliva too."

Nahee contemplated for awhile. "But kissing doesn't matter."

"How does that make sense? Tell me."

Nahee hummed, thinking. "I... Don't know."

"Exactly! You don't know because it doesn't make sense," Jungkook told. "Nevermind. You're too innocent to understand. The thing you before that is true though."

"Which one?"

"The one about eating something that is already bitten isn't satisfying. I'm glad you rejected my idea. I want this all mine anyway."

Nahee scoffed. "Two bag of snacks isn't enough for you and you bought six sticks of corndogs. Wait, I should be the one who is eating a lot because of stresses. Why is that you?"

After drinking a big amount of coke, Jungkook replied while feeling uncomfortable in the throat, "I'm stressed too, darling." Unexpectedly, he let out a loud burp when he wanted to say something else.

"Oh my gosh!" Nahee uttered in English. "Ugh!" Even though disgusted, she laughed.

Jungkook was flustered at his own action. He was never this comfortable to burp in front of any client. Yet, Nahee was different. His nose was flaring, thinking that he was silly with lips pressed tightly together. Once the gas in his stomach and the urge to burp lessened, he muttered, "excuse me." And then with a silly face, he added, "sorry."

He could have said it out normally, but because of the face he showed, it made Nahee laughed even more.

Nahee collected her inner peace by exhaling and inhaling deep breath. "Hoo! That's enough."

Jungkook shrugged his shoulders like a dumb as he finished his third (and hopefully the last) stick of corndog.

Nahee then remembered that Jungkook mentioned that he was stressed. She wondered if... "Jungkook-ah."

"Yeah?"

Nahee let silence lurking around them as she was contemplating whether to ask him the question or not. Nonetheless, she thought that this thinking wasn't supposed to be her matter. She was only his contracted girlfriend. She didn't want to be all fussy about that matter she was worrying. She chose to abandon the question then. "Nevermind," she said.

"If you're wondering why I'm stressed," Jungkook paused. "The answer is problems at home."

Nahee made a glance at him. Then, this meant the question that she thought before was neither true or false. But surely, the main thing that caused Jungkook to stress was problems at home.

'Problems at home?' She thought. 'Did he fight with Seokjin?' Caring for him, she wanted to listen to his problems. She told Jungkook, "talk to me about it. What's wrong?"

"My aunt and uncle," Jungkook said. "My aunt arrived here this afternoon, I guess. My uncle will be here later at dawn."

Nahee nodded, trying to understand and kept quiet in hoping that this quietness let him continue.

"I don't like them."

"May I know why?"

"They're weird. They treat me better than their own son, Seokjin hyung. I don't understand why are they pampering me so much to the point they neglect their son. I'm only their nephew."

Nahee kept listening.

"I wish I could tell them how I dislike them putting me in the first place, when they have their son to focus on too. I always feel sorry to Seokjin hyung. Seokjin hyung deserves the love I receive."

At this moment, Nahee understood Seokjin being all quirky and flirty to her. She felt bad for judging him by his behavior without knowing his life story. Although Seokjin was her contracted boyfriend's brother, she wished that she could give him a hug.

"There's one more thing that I find weird."

"What is it?" Nahee asked.

"When I was a teen, I couldn't mention anything that related to my parents. My aunt always reprimanded me if I mentioned anything about them. I don't know about my uncle, but it's really obvious that he's disappointed."

"How about now? How about Seokjin?"

"I don't mention about them anymore. Besides, they are living in Canada. But I must admit, I always remember my parents. I visit their graves of course, and Seokjin hyung knows that. Seokjin hyung doesn't make a fuss like them. Hyung is cool. That's why... That's why I love Seokjin hyung. I don't like seeing him having a hard time. He deserves more the love I get from his parents."

"So you're stressed because they're back?"

"Yeah. And I sort of shouted at my aunt because she had my phone. I think she was trying to tell that it kept ringing when I shouted at her."

"Oh my gosh, Jungkook. I might the one who kept calling you that time!"

"I saw the call log. You're not the only one kept calling me that time, so no worries. Anyways, Seokjin hyung isn't happy about that."

"Of course. I won't be happy if someone yelled at my mother too, you know."

Jungkook began to be quiet. He knew he was wrong. He knew he shouldn't have let his feelings about his cousin's parents bothered his emotions.

"Try to apologize to his mother. Maybe to Seokjin too?"

"To Seokjin hyung, okay. To my aunt, no."

"Jungkook, drop the ego for this time, please. Despite the neglect that his parents do to Seokjin, I know he wants to see you apologize to his mother."

Jungkook stared at Nahee and said nothing.

"I'm not going to force you to do this. Take your time. Or... whatever. Maybe, think that you do it for the sake of the relationship between you and Seokjin."

Jungkook was quiet, thinking before he decided to express out, "I will apologize. But!"

With an eyebrow jumped, Nahee repeated his words in a questioning tone, "okay, you will apologize, but?"

"But, don't expect I will treat them good. Not until they realise Seokjin hyung is also important."

Nahee shrugged with lips downwards. "Anything you are okay with." She then showed him a tight smile.

"Okay," Jungkook uttered, left hand was then raised up to attach the tin in his hand to his lips.

If Jungkook was given a chance to be honest, he wanted a hug from Nahee. Her hug was a comfort in his life. As if the girl could read his mind, she moved all the rubbish to the other side of her seat and moved closer to him.

She said, "let me give you an encouragement hug. A tiiiiight one."

"Alright." Jungkook put down his drink on the other side and got Nahee embraced him.

Caressing his head, Nahee uttered with playful motherly tone, "it's okay. You'll do well. I'm cheering on you."

Jungkook laughed at how playful Nahee was that day. "Can I bring home you with me? You're so cute today."

Nahee loosened her embrace, staring at Jungkook and then winked which made Jungkook to laugh at her.
