▪ FORTY-SIX

As soon as Nahee got Jungkook's location, she excused herself to leave. She even asked permission if she could use her mother's car. At first, Mrs Kim hesitated but when Nahee told her it's urgent, she lost for her and handed her car key to her daughter. She left the ward after promising her mother that she would drive safely.

The journey to a park filled with worries and thoughts. She had been wondering what was wrong with Jungkook and how should she comfort him this time. Would the usual hug be enough? Would be advices be okay? Or should she let Jungkook to tell her what he wanted for a comfort?

After she parked her car, she locked the door and left the parking area to look for Jungkook.

The park was quiet. No passerby going through which made it easy for her to barge into the place and walking around. Finally, she saw a figure bending forward with his hands on his head. She approached him.

When she arrived at the spot, she asked, "Jeon Jungkook?"

Jungkook raised up his head, showing his swollen eyes and red nose. He pulled Nahee by the waist and that made her gasped as he wrapped his arms around her.

Nahee managed to get a glimpse of his face earlier. It broke her heart. She carefully called, "Jungkook-ah."

"Not now," Jungkook said, almost in a pleading tone. He was too vulnerable at this moment and Nahee felt that. "Please, not now." He buried his face on Nahee's stomach as he cried again. "I just need you now," he sobbed.

Nahee had never seen Jungkook's vulnerability like that. She wanted to ask what happened but this moment wasn't the right time. Hearing how bad Jungkook sobbed on her stomach made her heart wrenched.

She softly placed a hand on his head while another hand on his back, patting it as though it was a baby in his mother's cradle.

Nahee didn't say a word as she patted the man. She was hoping that this would calm him down, and she wanted to hear what made him this way, that is only if Jungkook wanted to talk about it.

His sob getting softer and lighter than before. He pulled away while sniffing his nose, pulling Nahee down to sit beside him.

Jungkook then said, "I found out my family's truth."

"Want to talk about it?"

Jungkook nodded his head. As Nahee let him to go, he started telling her everything. At how those private matters that kept him busy were actually his meetings with his investigator, wanting to see how far the investigation progress and going investigating on his own when he had a time.

Nahee was shocked with the ending. It must have hurt for him knowing that he had been living with his parents killer for a long time. She was speechless. This was not a problem she could offer words of comfort.

That was when she learned that sometimes truth were better to remain untold. But how would it remain untold when a soul possibly couldn't live peacefully when it's still alive. Truth is always painful...

When Jungkook finished his story, Nahee was thinking what she should say. But would it matter to make a reaction or utter out a word? As she thought back what Jungkook told her earlier, "I just need you now," maybe staying with him was all that means a lot to him.

She knew Jungkook wouldn't go back to Seokjin's house and stay and she also knew he didn't want Jimin to know he was in that state.

"Jungkook-ah."

Jungkook's swollen eyes rolled to look at her.

"Do you want... Do you want to stay at my house tonight?"

"But your mother–"

"I'll ask my mother. Besides, she'll be staying at Namjoon oppa's house tonight."

Jungkook kept quiet for awhile. And then, he let out an airy, dull laugh. "A man staying with you tonight. That doesn't sound nice."

"You're not a only a man or a stranger. You're my boyfriend," Nahee said.

The area was quiet again as Jungkook stared at Nahee. No one knows what was in Jungkook's mind. It didn't take him long to respond. He gave the girl a light smile and nodded his head.

Nahee smiled back as she stood up while holding Jungkook's hand. "Let's go. I'll drive."

"You drive?"

"Oh, yeah! I forgot you don't know that I have a licensed."

Jungkook chuckled as he stood up. "What made you stop driving?"

"I was banned from driving for a short time because of speed limits. I even dented my brother's car."

Jungkook chuckled again while smiling with his swollen eyes. "You're a bad driver."

The couple began to walk, leaving the seat and directing to Nahee's car (actually, Mrs Kim's car).

"No, I'm not. I've improved, alright?"

They playfully bickered as they walked together to the car. At least, Jungkook had enlightened up a little during that time.

When the couple arrived at the house, Nahee guided Jungkook to Namjoon's room. She told her that he was going to sleep there for that night.

After that, she was wondering if he needed to clean himself after a long day. Still, she didn't bother to ask. Instead, she excused herself to go to a store to get him things.

Jungkook wanted to stop her but her slim, short legs brought her to the door faster than he expected. Jungkook let out a chuckle as he went into Namjoon's bedroom.

It took Nahee quite long to pick up some stuff from the convenience store. She didn't know the man's clothes size and all she had done was carrying one shirt or pants (or boxers) and raised it up, thinking if it suited Jungkook. Buying things like this wasn't a big deal to him, some girls would blush or acted like they didn't see anything at the man's undergarments section, but Nahee was otherwise.

She had done this for Namjoon when he had to stay at the studio before. And buying him underwears were a big problem for her during the first time. Not judging, she understood how those girls felt. She even understood that even guys were shy or even embarrassed when trying to buy their girlfriends or sisters stuffs.

When paying the items, she was hoping they fit him. She scolded herself for not asking him his clothes size. Out of nowhere, she laughed as she thought that she was so close taking the role of a mother for Jungkook that day.

Done paying, she went out, looking for another store that sold soju since the store she was in before didn't sell it.

"Drinking soju once in awhile won't hurt," she muttered.

After getting a few bottles of soju, she decided to go home.

Despite her utterances earlier, she started to asking herself if this was a good idea especially when for someone who had a low alcohol resistance like her.

Nahee sighed, "nevermind." And then telling herself to control her actions.

She reached her house after spending a few minutes on the road. She parked her car in front of the entrance, hopping off it and locked it with a press on the small remote control as it gave a loud beep. She then went in the yard, locking the gate and then to the house.

She did her usual habit of saying, "I'm home!" She then closed the door behind her and called, "Jungkook."

"I'm here." She heard the voice from the kitchen. At the same time, she smelled a familiar delicious smell. Something sweet and reminded her of something red.

She brought herself to the kitchen and put down the plastic bags on the counter as she witnessed Jungkook cooking.

As she walked towards the man, Nahee asked, "What are you making?"

"Tomato spaghetti."

Nahee suddenly reminded of last time when she bombarded Jungkook with questions regarding her thoughts. To this day, she was embarrassed and think of Jungkook's feeling and reaction to the confession.

"You don't have to worry about before," Jungkook said, making a short glance at her as he gave her a smile. He then continued to stir the red sauce. "It's not bad that you let out what you feel."

Nahee sucked and nibbled her lips while looking at him. "Uhm..." She scratched behind her ears. "I bought you stuff. Just in case you wanted to clean yourself, there's a bathroom inside Namjoon's room, you can use it."

Jungkook nodded, giving her a smile again. "I'll wash up after we eat. You haven't eaten yet, have you?"

Nahee shook her head.

"Once I get these done, we'll eat together."

This time, the girl nodded her head. The man then asked for bowls and she went to cabinet to get two bowls, placing them beside the stove after that. She then got forks and spoons from the drawer, and placed them neatly on the table.

They ate the spaghetti together and had a small talk about Namjoon's son. Jungkook listened to Nahee talked and seeing her smiling the whole time as she talked about it. When asked if she held the baby, she shook her head with a pout. Jungkook smiled even wider when he saw that lips pouted.

After they finished their food, they washed the bowls together. Nahee washed the bowls with soap and Jungkook rinsed it with water. When she was washing the last spoon, she stealthily looked Jungkook. She pressed the sponge to produce foam on her hand, removing the extra foam and touched his nose with a little foam.

Jungkook got startled as his eyes got to the middle to see the rounded foam stuck at the tip of his nose. He pressed his lips into a thin line, glaring at Nahee. As a revenge, he gathered water in one hand and splashed it to the girl.

They played around at the kitchen for awhile, tossing foams and throwing water to each other. When Nahee ran around, she slipped but luckily Jungkook caught her by wrapping his arm around her waist and they stared at each other's eyes.

The stares stopped Nahee snorted and laughed. Jungkook laughed too. The kitchen chimed with laughters from the couple.

Who knew, Nahee's idea changed Jungkook's day.

Both of them sat by each other on the floor. The sofa was behind them as their back supporters and in front of them was the coffee table, filled with snacks, a small servings of fried chicken that Jungkook ordered and a few capped bottles of soju. One uncapped bottle was in between them and two small glasses were in front of them on the table.

The television was on with a variety show on air. Chuckles and laughs erupted as a hilarious scene playing on the television.

Nahee became tipsy after downing six glass. Her eyes were heavy and head tilted slightly to the opposite side of Jungkook.

When the ads played on the television this time, out of nowhere, the silence in the living room broke. "I have a question."

Although feeling light headed, Nahee turned her head to look at Jungkook. Almost inaudible, she asked, "what is it?"

"Do you mean what you said?"

Nahee lightly creased her eyebrows. She blinked her eyes once as she said, "What about?"

"About falling in love with me."

Nahee stayed silent. She didn't what she felt at that moment. She didn't feel she was drunk for awhile. She shut her eyes as she moved her head to look straight. "I told you to forget it."

Jungkook immediately said, "but what if I feel the same?"

Nahee made a glance at him again. She couldn't let out a word.

"Yah, say something."

Tipsy Nahee said, "Something."

Jungkook was dumbfounded at the response. It was a little funny but he was sure Nahee wasn't okay at that time. "Seriously."

Nahee scoffed. "What do you want me to do if you feel the same then?"

"Let's give us," the man paused. "Let's give us a real chance. Even though it'll be for a few months."

Nahee was speechless.

"Let's keep this quiet from the company."

Nahee shook her heavy feeling head. "I don't think that's a good idea."

"It is. It will be a good idea. I won't accept any more clients until our last day. What say you?"

Nahee sighed. "Jungkook, are you drunk?"

"I'm sober."

"I have a feeling you're drunk."

"I am not drunk. I'm not like you. So weak with alcohol," Jungkook sarcastically uttered.

Nahee slapped his arm and Jungkook flinched when he got a sharp pain on his upper arm.

Quiet again when the show began. But Jungkook wasn't satisfied. He wanted to say some more to convince Nahee about his idea, but Nahee interfered when he wanted to speak.

"Sometimes, I don't understand what you think," Nahee expressed. She let another silence go through the room. "What else are you planning?"

Jungkook kept quiet. He gulped his saliva and then said, "nothing else."

Nahee couldn't decide whether to believe him or not. After knowing he had done so many things without anyone knowing (investigating about his aunt and uncle was one of them), she had one moment of hard time to understand him.

Jungkook was a guy with many surprises and unpredictable thinking. This made Nahee wished she was a mind reader.

"Follow me to Busan."

The unexpected invitation surprised Nahee. She almost whispered, "pardon?"

"Follow me to Busan," he said again. "I need you with me to Busan."

The girl didn't know what to say. Jungkook's surprises sometimes came at the wrong timing too.

At night, when everyone was sleeping, someone was standing alone at the yard with a phone attached on his ear...

"Hello, Investigator Im Changkyun speaking."

"Hey, Changkyun."

"Oh, hey! I'm surprised that you called me with my office's number. What's up?"

"I need your help."

"I'm on. What you need this time?"
