▪ FORTY-FIVE
Only two lights were lit in house. The lights at the balcony and the lights at the kitchen. Though, the moonlight that lit through the curtain and into the living room illuminating the features of the human in the area.
Eyes shut and both arms rested on the solo sofa armrest, hair pushed back showing his forehead. Two wet lines on his cheeks dimly shone because of the moonlight.
At that moment, his mind was a messed like a pile of messy unsolved assignments being everywhere on the table and on the floor. A hand slowly formed a fist as the memory of what his investigator told him flashed in his mind.
"I asked for the madam's and sir's workplace's CCTV records for that day's incident." The investigator laid out pictures on the table from the brown envelope in his hand. Jungkook's eyebrows creased upon looking at each pictures showing middle-aged woman and man in two different places. The woman was at an office while the man was at the car park, bending beside a saloon car.
"I don't understand," Jungkook said.
The investigator let out a heavy sigh with lips pursed. "The car crashed and exploded, correct?"
Jungkook nodded.
"From what I have inspected and understand, the car's crash wasn't serious. It is impossible the car to explode if the crash wasn't serious. The oil didn't leak either. I was permitted to inspect the car, by the way. I found something from the car." The investigator pulled the drawer and took out a zip lock plastic containing a small, square metal box. It's upper part had a big hole. "A timer bomb."
"But the police didn't find anything like this," Jungkook said.
The investigator showed him a bitter smile. "It was installed under the driver's seat. This small thing still stuck in there when I found it."
A deep, unsatisfied sigh left Jungkook's mouth as he thought of how careless of the officer who was responsible for this case.
"Boss," the investigator called. Jungkook looked at him. "I have made an analysis of the whole thing but if that doesn't make sense to you, you can reject it."
"Sure. What is it?"
"I got gathered many records here by the way." The investigator took out a paper. "Your aunt happened to have a miscarriage once after giving by to a child. Seems that she had done so many procedures to conceive. But none of them work. She can't get pregnant again." He then took another paper, laying it on top of another paper. "This custody isn't official. The court hasn't confirmed it to this day and to be honest, I can't tell how the child end up staying with them."
"Lies," Jungkook nonchalantly uttered. "They tell the child lies. The child didn't know anything about the custody. He was brought to the family. Everything they wanted to happen, it happens according to their plan."
"Boss..."
Jungkook clenched his jaws and let out a sigh. Dark chuckle left his mouth. "Call me Jungkook from now on, Changkyun" he said. "Thanks."
Changkyun showed him a bitter smile. He then carefully called, "Jungkook..."
"Yes."
"Mind if I ask you regarding this case?"
Jungkook kept quiet for awhile. His head hung low, shaken by the conclusion he had made and confirmed. "What is it?" The utterance almost came out as a whisper.
"Is this boy –"
"Yes, that boy is me." Jungkook breath became shaky. "That boy is me, Changkyun."
They ruined his childhood moments. The moments he needed his parents the most. Some people would tell him that he should be thankful that his aunt and uncle brought him into the family and treated him like their own child after their parents death, but how could he appreciate them when they were the reason why his parents died?
This wealthy family. They could afford anything and could get anything with money. You name it; cars, fancy clothes, an apartment, a premise and might as well, a bomb or even bribe someone to do anything.
How ironic, living with a family who killed his parents for many years, he had been living like a fool. Accepting their treatments who were nicer than how they treated other human beings and their own son, Kim Seokjin. His chest heaved up and down heavily when he thought of it.
Speaking of Kim Seokjin, he wondered if he knew his parents' evil plans.
The sound of the door clicked snapped him out of his thoughts. He opened his eyes and stared straight while thinking how would they react if they saw him there.
"Jeon Jungkook?" He heard his cousin's voice.
"Hm?" The soft feminine voice was heard this time. "Our Jungkook is here?" He heard the sound of footsteps running into the area to approach. The delighted tone irked him when he heard, "oh my, it's really Jungkook! How is your day? Have you eaten?"
Jungkook stood up, taking out an envelope and lazily spreading out pictures he got from Investigator Im Changkyun.
Mrs Kim froze while Seokjin was staring at each pictures with eyebrows furrowed, recognizing each focus on the pictures and wondering what these meant.
Seokjin's father who was the last one to enter the room noticed Jungkook standing at the room but didn't realise the atmosphere yet. "Jungkook?"
The mentioned man turned his head. "Everyone is here," he said.
Mr Kim laughed. "Yep, everyone is here. You happy to see us, little boy?"
"I'll be happier if you admit the truth," Jungkook darkly uttered. The appearances of his aunt and uncle bothered his emotions that he couldn't bear the wait for the truth from their mouths anymore. "You killed my parents."
Mrs Kim looked at Jungkook with glassy vision. Mr Kim was shocked. Seokjin who was innocent was baffled at the foundation.
"My parents accident wasn't an accident! You planned everything, you killed my parents!"
With shaky voice, Mrs Kim tried to tell, "Jungkook, we can explain. We –"
But Jungkook stopped her. "What else are there to explain?" He pressed his words as he stated, "I know what I need to know!"
Mrs Kim cried, "J-Jungkook, w-we can talk."
"'Live with us. We will take care of you well.'" Jungkook started to remember the words that Mr and Mrs Kim told him before. "'Your father's lawyer told us your father and mother want us to take care of you when they're gone.' And I was only a fool teenager believing every lies you spit right on my face. What else? To have me in this family to take my family's wealth? Or are you going to kill me after you got it? Or are you going to remove Seokjin hyung out of this family and have me stay in this family forever for whatever reasons? How evil you are."
"Eomma," Seokjin interfered. "Is this why you and appa neglected me?" His world began to spin, feeling tight at this atmosphere. He wanted to cry, but why fears were expressed instead of tears at that moment?
"Seokjin-ah..."
Jungkook then butted in this time, "yeah, Seokjin hyung. They feed me good, treat me good and neglect you most of the time. Probably because of me, because they want me. They want to see me as their son, to replace their dead child."
"Eomma..."
Mrs Kim became weak as she knelt down with tears wetted her face. "Seokjin-ah, I'm sorry. Jungkook-ah, let me, let me explain everything."
Jungkook yelled, "I have had enough!"
"Jungkook-ah!" Mrs Kim expressed with gruff voice as tears of fears continuously falling.
Seokjin couldn't utter a word. He couldn't feel anything but hearing his mother's pleading, crying and apologising. He couldn't even scold Jungkook for yelling at his mother because it felt like she deserved it, but it hurted his heart to think that way.
Mr Kim stayed frozen there. He didn't expect Jungkook would know the truth. On the other hand, he was scared Jungkook would file a report or sue them.
Gritting his teeth and tears finally fall, Jungkook said, "don't find me again." He then left, passing by the woman. She almost caught his leg to beg again, but Jungkook's power of anger failed her from catching him.
The situation in the house became down, truthfully showing how unfair life can be for both the bad and good.
Jungkook left. Mrs Kim shouted for Jungkook's name, pleading him to come back. Mr Kim ended up weakly kneeling down on the floor, thinking of the possible consequences that the youngest would do in the future.
On the other hand, Seokjin...
Seokjin couldn't believe his parents would do such things only to get Jungkook in their hands. He kept thinking if he wasn't enough. He kept thinking what else he should do to satisfy his parents wants, what was he lacking of, what was his weakness that his parents hated. Everything felt like a dream, he was mentally pleading and hoping that this was only a dream.
But his mother's cries didn't seem to stop the reality from changing to a dream.
At this moment, he was asking himself mentally, what was he going to do with Jungkook? He wasn't in Jungkook's place but he understood his cousin's feelings. Betrayed, sad, mad. He was feeling the craziness that his cousin felt.
Truth is always ugly...
**********
Jungkook couldn't stop himself from crying while driving far away from the apartment.
He had been living in actions that blinded his eyes and mind. He had been living like a fool.
It was unacceptable...

Nahee was delighted to welcome her nephew to the world. She couldn't stop smiling at the tiny creature in the hospital's cradle. The baby softened her heart as she saw the baby beanie hat with blue bear in the middle that she bought was in the baby's head.
What made her happier was, seeing her brother carrying his son while talking with his wife softly. The baby moved his head slightly as though he was trying to fix his position.
The memory of Namjoon sobbing and telling her "I am a dad," still amused her. She chuckled when she remembered Namjoon came out of the labour room crying and kneeling in front of her, almost scared her for no reason.
After four hours of waiting, the grandparents and great grandmother of the baby arrived. Sound of footsteps carefully entering the private ward chimed as Nahee turned around and looked at the elders with a smile. She moved herself to the other side to give ways for them to pass.
Everyone was in awe at the tiny creature, sleeping in his father's arm. The ladies were talking with each other, asking each other who the baby resembled to. Eerin's father was a cool guy, he didn't bother to join the women asking the question but instead, he gave Namjoon a thumb up.
Namjoon almost got scolded by his mother when she found out her grandson had been in his arm for so long. She told him to put the baby in the cradle and pick him up only when he cried or needed to breastfeed.
Nahee quietly laughed at that. Though, she was envying her brother at this moment, but not in a bad way.
All of a sudden, she felt her phone vibrated in her hand. She raised it on her eye level. The name 'Jeon Jungkook' displayed on the screen while the green button begged her to click.
She clicked it without hesitation. Before she could say a word, the voice of Jungkook shaky greeted her ear, "Nahee..."
Nahee sensed something was wrong with the intonation. "Jungkook?"
"I need you..."
