▪ FIFTY
It had been a week since then. Nahee had been living with questions. The question bothered her mind to the point it affected her everyday life. She could not concentrate at anything, except babysitting. At least, her nephew distracted her mind for a short time.
Kim Nahee was alone. Kim Nahee had been so quiet. Kim Nahee had not been acting the same.
When Eerin and Namjoon were away, she had her mother and her nephew with her. There was once when her friends went to her house to see the baby, the three of them noticed the change. When they asked if she was okay, she made a white lie and told them she was okay while playing with Kim Joonwoo.
Knowing Nahee, Sara, Jiwoo and Somin were not convinced by that. Nahee was not often like this especially when she had a problem. She would share her problems and this behavior bothered them. They wanted to ask but they weren't going to ask in front of Joonwoo. They ended up forgetting it though.
More days passed, and Nahee feeling lonely. That was the mark when she realised she missed Jungkook. She couldn't call him or send him a message, so she ended up reading their past chats.
However, one day, Sandeul came to her house. Mrs Kim was the one who opened the door for him and called her daughter to the door.
Confused, after greeting him, Nahee asked, "what's... the matter?"
Sandeul formally said, "we received a report telling us you and Jungkook broke the contract rules."
'What the f***,' she thought. "But we –"
Sandeul held his palms up. "You and Jungkook can explain that at the company," he said. "With our proofs received."
"What?!"
Sandeul looked up at her. He sighed. "We also received proofs that you two broke the rules. You must attend at the company at two p.m. Please come on time. Mr Bang will be there."
Nahee was furious that she cussed. "Who the f*** reports us?"
Sandeul replied, "that is confidential."
Nahee wanted to cry.
This...
This was what she was scared of.
*********
She hated that day. She almost did not want to go to the company, but thinking that Jungkook might get worse consequences, she finalised to go.
Nahee changed into red blouse and dark blue jeans after finished her lunch. And then she stared at the mirror for awhile. Her mind was in fire when she thought of the unknown person who reported about them. Whoever that was, she wanted to know why did he or she did that and how did he or she know that they were contracted couples registered from BigHit Contracted Relationship Company.
She was not ready. She was not ready to let Jungkook go. She was attached with Jungkook to the point that she couldn't imagine of letting him go. She hated how this mindset and feeling trapped inside her.
She had never leave home with heavy heart just to go to another place. She hated that feeling.
She drove herself to the company. She drove very slow that made the cars behind her to cut the lane and drove in front of her. She didn't care how the drivers were yelling at her. She wanted to be slow, she wanted to annoy the people who were waiting for her at the company.
She arrived at the company at half past two. When she entered the company, she saw Jungkook and Sandeul were waiting inside at the entrance.
Her heart tightened upon seeing Jungkook was standing there, staring at her sharply. It did not scare her. She knew her fault. The fault that she purposely made.
Nahee made a slow, final step when she stood in front of them.
"You are late," Sandeul firmly said. Nahee didn't apologize or Jungkook backing her up.
It hurted her how everything went down and awkward so fast.
Sandeul added, "whatever reasons you are late, we better go to the office now."
Jungkook went ahead, ignoring Nahee. On the other hand, Sandeul who did not find this peculiar atmosphere, guided the sad girl.
Her sadness was masked with a very deep sigh.
Once they stopped in front of a door with the CEO golden plate name on it, Sandeul knocked the door three times before the voice of CEO allowing them to enter was heard from the outside.
Nahee mentally begged Mr Bang would give them a chance. She mentally prayed that there would be hope that he would allow them to continue the contract.
Their sights were greeted by Mr Bang in spectacles rested on his nose bridge, his right hand held an expensive black pen while beneath his arms was a pile of important papers. The older man took off his spectacles when he saw the couple.
The couple and Sandeul bowed, and Mr Bang nodded his head. He stared at Jungkook and Nahee. He then let out a sigh. "Sit," he said.
Nahee hesitated, she waited for Jungkook to do it first. When Jungkook sat, she sat down too. The office was quiet for awhile as Mr Bang arranging the files and put them away.
Mr Bang gave Sandeul a nod, and his assistant took out an envelope from his covered clipboard. Sandeul laid each picture on the table carefully.
Nahee was surprised. Those pictures she was seeing were real. Then, she had a short flashback when Jungkook kissed her. It was not a time to blush at the memory, but she wondered who took those. Jungkook's face were clear in the picture although Nahee was barely seen. She was the only client that Jungkook accepted at that moment and she knew they were doomed!
"We got these two days ago," Mr Bang told. "Kim Nahee and Jeon Jungkook. Do you have an explanation to this?"
Nahee kept looking at Jungkook, in hoping he would say something but he didn't utter a word. She wished he would, she had been waiting but none left his mouth.
Mr Bang sighed. "I shall ask you two individually. Jeon Jungkook." He halted. "You are our company's permanent boyfriend choice. Do you have an explanation to this for yourself and on behalf of your client?"
Without looking at anyone, Jungkook straightened his sitting position. He sighed as he said, "no."
Nahee was shocked and perplexed. "Wait, Mr Bang. I can explain!"
Mr Bang's eyebrows raised. "Yes?"
"We... We... We went to Busan for a holiday."
The boss nodded his head, signing Nahee to continue.
Jungkook didn't bother to interfere her.
"We..." She paused. "I mean, these are not real!"
"I'm sorry but how can you explain that? I sent Sandeul to Busan to clarify this two days ago. He found video records relating to this. Do you want him to play the videos for you two?"
Nahee was out of words.
Jungkook answered instead. "No, thank you."
"Do you have anymore to say, Nahee?" Mr Bang calmly asked.
The girl's hands were shaking and stayed quiet. She was not ready to let him go.
Jungkook looked at her through the tail of his eyes. He then sternly called, "Kim Nahee."
She got startled. In the end, she had to shake her head.
To be honest, Mr Bang was sad to see Nahee like that. But rules were rules to follow. Following the rules was part of contracted relationship disciplines. He nodded his head without a word and then signed Sandeul to take out something.
With his usual polite and humble manners, Sandeul took out two pieces of papers and placed them in front of Nahee and Jungkook. Two black pens were placed beside their papers.
Nahee didn't need to read the papers. It was the contract termination paper. She must sign it and she knew, later she was going to listen to Mr Bang telling them their consequences for breaking the contract rules.
Jungkook signed without hesitation but Nahee wasn't encouraged to do the same.
The man who had been so quiet saw that she didn't make a move. With stern intonation, he said, "sign it."
Mr Bang was surprised at Jungkook's sudden changes. He had never seen him behaving like that with any of his clients. But he kept his professional posture still, while thinking of how Nahee would react.
Truth to be told, Nahee was intimidated. She slowly landed the black pen tip on the paper and, finally signed.
"Okay," Mr Bang voiced out. "Jeon Jungkook. Your punishment is to accept clients without receiving their money. In other means, you'll not receive any salary as a contracted boyfriend in this company. The reviews that you had from your past clients actually saved you from getting worse punishment like Yoongi."
Jungkook nodded.
"And Kim Nahee," the boss called. "You will not receive any punishment from us. As your contract had not reach half of the time you signed yet, we will return your money."
Nahee shook her head. "It's fine," she said. "I don't need the money."
Mr Bang looked at Sandeul as if he was asking what to do with this situation. In the end, Sandeul had to say, "we can't let you leave without your money."
"No it's really fine," the girl stammered. "I have no reasons for that. So, don't ask."
Mr Bang was only able to nod his head, although he was a little reluctant to not to speak. He wanted to stop Nahee but if she said so, then he had to accept it. "This meeting dismissed," he said. And then, he instructed Sandeul to stay for awhile to discuss about the work he had.
On the other, Jungkook immediately left his seat and walked in big steps to the door. Nahee had to catch up for his paces to talk him.
As soon as they left the office, the girl called, "Jungkook." Though, it was ignored. Again, she called, "Jungkook!"
Since the man didn't respond to her, she pulled his forearm. He faced her with an angry look on his face.
"Why are you doing this?" Nahee asked.
"Why am I doing this?" Jungkook repeated in sarcastic intonation. He moved his face closer with a big gap between them. He whispered, "because I'm tired of you."
"What the f***, Jungkook?!"
"What's wrong? Are you going to say I have no right to do it?"
Nahee's vision became glassy. She couldn't stop her voice from shaking due to the tight pain that her throat held. "Then, what about the chance you said last time? What the f*** was that?"
Jungkook scoffed. "What chance are you talking about?"
"A real chance for both of us."
Jungkook stared at her dull. "I was only playing with you."
"What about that time when you needed me, Jungkook?! Is that your play too?!"
Due to her tears kept falling, she didn't realise Jungkook had his eyes reddened and eyelashes a little damp. He gulped his saliva and said, "yes." He then added, "let's part ways from now on. Let's see those times never happened. It would be easier for you to forget your confession, yeah?"
Nahee's face became contorted due because of the cry. "Please tell me, you're lying."
Jungkook's fist balled. "I'm not."
Nahee released a curt laugh. "Unbelievable," she muttered. "I hate you, Jungkook. I regret loving you!" And then, she walked away with big steps. She had to silent her cry and sob as she left the company.
On the other side, Jungkook who had been standing at the hallway silently wept.
