*(Y/N) POV*

Weiss: "Professor Oobleck?"

Oobleck: "Yes. I'm afraid those bags won't be necessary, boys and girls, seeing as you've opted to shadow a Huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission. I can assure you, you will not be establishing a single base of operations, rather, we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wastelands and making a camp in any defendable locations we may stumble upon. I packed all of our essentials myself, plotted our air course, and readied the airship. And..." he get close to Weiss "It's Doctor Oobleck. I didn't earn the PhD for fun, thank you very much" he zoom away from Weiss's face

Weiss: "Uhh..."

Ryze: "Does anyone understood anything he was saying?" he whispered to our group and we just shake our heads 

Oobleck: "Come now children! According to my schedule, we are already three minutes behind...schedule!" and he ran to the bullhead on the platform in front of us

Ruby: "Well, alright then. Looks like we're going to save the world with Doctor Oobleck-okay, yeah, when you say it out loud, it sounds worse"

(Y/N): "You can say that again, Petals"

???: "Save the world?!" We turned around to see Team JNPR coming our way

Nora: You're going on world saving missions without us?! I'm hurt, sad, maybe a little hungry..." Nora dramatically cries and her stomach grumble. "That last one's not your fault though...Ren" she glare at Ren as he just cross his arms and turn away

Jaune: "Sound exciting. Where're you going?"

Ruby: "Oh, just outside the kingdom..."

Nora: "Hey! So are we!"

Pyrrha: "Ren and Nora wanted to shadow the sheriff of a nearby village"

Ren: "We set out tomorrow" Sun and Neptune get near us

Neptune: "Then you can party with us tonight. We're shadowing a crime specialist. All inner-city detective stuff. We get junior badges" Jane is amazed

Ryze: "Are you sure these are not plastic toys from 'everything for a Lien' store?"

Sun: "Nah. These are the real deal" he turned back to the group "We normally go to the city with you guys, which means stuff's always exploding and junk. So, we thought this might be a better way to check out the kingdom when it's, you know, normal"

Mako: "Hey! We don't always make stuff explode when we go into the city" We turned to him with 'seriously?' looks "Okay, maybe we do. But it's not always our fault!"

Ruby: "Well..." Oobleck interrupted Ruby, as he called us from the bullhead

Oobleck: "Four minutes, ladies and gentlemen!" Ruby cringed and we looked back

Ruby: "Well, uh... Wish us luck!" we said our goodbyes and went to our bullhead 

*small timeskip, outside the city*

Yang: "I guess I just never saw you as much of a fighter"

Oobleck: "I admit I fancy myself more of an intellectual, but I can assure you, as a huntsman, I've had my fair share of tussles" Ruby is clearly confused

Ruby: "Like the mushroom?" I lean forwards to educate the Rose, again

(Y/N): "Petals, those are truffles" she still don't get it

Ruby: "Like the sprout?"

(Y/N): "Those are Brussels. Ruby, tussles means fights. Doctor Oobleck may look like typical history teacher, but never judge a book by it's cover. Huntsman is a Huntsman, no matter what"

Oobleck: "Exactly, Mr. (L/N). And besides, given my expertise in the field of history as well as my dabblings in the archaeological surveys, our dear headmaster saw it fit to assign me to this particular...assignment"

Weiss: "What does history have to do with this"

Oobleck: "Why, what a preposterous question, you silly girl! Why history is the backbone of our very society. AND THE LIVER!...And probably the kidneys if I were to wager"

Sam: "So, Professor..." Oobleck cut him off

Oobleck: "Doctor!"

Sam: "Right. So, Doctor Oobleck, what does it means?"

Oobleck: "The southeast quadrant outside of Vale is home to wild forests and deep caves, BUT, it is also the location to one of the kingdom's greatest failures"

Ruby: "Mountain Glenn"

Yang: "That's right, it was an expansion of Vale...but in the end, it was overrun by Grimm and fenced off from the rest of the city"

(Y/N): "Place full of dread and despair. Ideal location for Grimm to build a nest"

Oobleck: "Correct! And now it stands abandoned, as a dark reminder"

Blake: "And a likely place for a hideout"

Oobleck: "Precisely!"

Our ship eventually gets to it's destination. We jump down with our weapons ready for eventual welcoming party. Well, except for Oobleck, as he just casually drinks from his thermos. I take a look around the city. It's looks like a war ran through here, and in a matter, it did. Our ship in the meanwhile flew back and Oobleck turns to us

Oobleck: "Ladies and gentlemen, you still may be students, but as of this moment, your first mission as Huntsmen and Huntresses has begun. From this point forward, you need to do exactly as I say. Do you understand?" We all nod before he noticed Ruby's backpack

'Busted...'

Oobleck: "Ruby! I thought I told you to leave all of your bags back at school"

Ruby: "But, uh, you hadn't told us to listen to you yet. So I didn't"

(Y/N): "300 IQ move, Petals"

Oobleck: "She's not wrong... Very well, Ruby, leave your bag here, we can pick it up upon our return"

Ruby: "But I, well uh-"

Oobleck: "Young lady, what in the world could you possibly have in that bag that can be so important to bring it wit-" He was interupted as Zwei's head popped out of Ruby's bag. My team and the rest of Team RWBY leans over to see the event as I pinch the bridge of my nose, shaking my head

(Y/N): "You are on your own, Ruby"

Ruby: "Get in the bag" she whispered to the dog, as he just barked in return

Oobleck: "We're here to investigate an abandoned urban jungle, teeming with death and hostility, and you brought...a dog?"

Ruby: "I, uh..."

(Y/N): "To be fair, I told her it would be a bad idea..."

Oobleck: "Genius!"

CRMS: "Ehh?" we all looked at Ruby as she shrugged. Oobleck zoomed past us, taking Zwei in his arms and making Ruby fall on me as we both hit the ground

(Y/N): "Ruby, can you get off me? " Ruby blushed and stood up, letting me get up too

Ruby: "Sorry (Y/N)..."

Oobleck: "Canines are historically known for their perceptive nose and heightened sense of sound, making them excellent companions for a hunt such as ours!" We are all shocked. Then Ruby proudly states

Ruby: "I'm a genius!" I ruffled her head while Weiss, Yang, Ryze and Sam facepalmed

Blake: "So, what are your orders, Doctor?"

Oobleck: "Ah, yes, straight to the chase. I like it! As you've been informed, the southeast area has been marked as a recent hotspot for Grimm activity. Now, there are several possible explanations for this behavior. One of which being...Grimm" he dropped Zwei

Ruby: "Uh, what?"

Oobleck: "Grimm...A creature of Grimm approximately one hundred yards from us, at this very moment" Me and my team turned around too see a lone Beowolf.

Yang: "What?!" They turned around and also spotted that lone Beowolf. We all get our weapons ready to kill it

Oobleck: "Stop!"

Blake: "Huh?"

Oobleck: "There are a number of reasons why a Grimm would congregate in this particular area. The most likely of which will be their attraction to negativity. Sadness, envy, loneliness, hatred, all qualities that are likely held by our hidden group harboring ill intent"

Ruby: "So... What now?"

Oobleck: "We wait...We track. If this specimen leads us to its pack, that pack may subsequently lead us to our prey"

Blake: "How long do we wait?"

Oobleck: "It's uncertain. Hours, days, weeks. Why, lone Grimm have been known to stay isolated from the pack for months-and there's the whole pack"

Weiss: "What?"

Oobleck: "And now they've seen us"

Weiss: "What?!" Doctor get near her ear

Oobleck: "AND NOW THEY'VE SEEN US!"

Ruby: "I take it tracking is out of the question?"

Oobleck: "An accurate assumption, yes"

Yang: "What's the plan then?" she said as Grimm stated charging at us

(Y/N): "We fight or we die. Simple enough"

Oobleck: "Show me what you're capable of"

(Y/N): "Team CRMS, get ready, we have a job to do"

Ruby: "Cover your ears Zwei" she got Crescent Rose into the pavement, getting ready to shot. Zwei, being a what I can only assume a good trained dog, follows her orders

We all charged towards the Grimm. Yang rushes one Beowolf and punch it in the head, killing it. Blake slices them up in half with her weapon. Weiss used her Myrtenaster and cut all the Grimm standing in her path. Ruby meanwhile was giving us a support from the back. Sam used his semblance to keep three Beowolfs in place, as he later squeeze them with his vines, killing them. Ryze was using a technique we come after Initiation. He was flying around, slashing at Grimm numerous times. Me and Mako were tag teaming, he used his semblance on some rebars lying nearby. They acted as nails, penetrating Grimm's limbs and asphalt, successfully keeping them in place. When it was done we rushed said Grimm. I with Mortem in it's scythe mode and Mako with his baseball bat in mace mode. While I was cutting their heads, Mako was smashing them. I noticed one Beowolf was sneaking his way behind Ruby. I looked at it with an angry face, as again I didn't noticed my eyes were slightly glowing silver light. Beowolf scowled, letting Ruby know something is behind her and she kill it with her scythe. As it turns out it was the last one. We all regroup and put our weapons down

Ruby: "Heh. Piece of cake!"

Oobleck: "Do not celebrate just yet, for I am certain this is the first bout of many. Shall we continue?"

We all agreed and continue our search. We run into more Grimm and well, we kill them. What's the other thing to do with it? Keep it as a pet? Please. After dealing with Beowolfes I looked at Ruby and her team too see them tired. I looked back at my team to see they are still full of energy

(Y/N): "You guys good?"

Ryze: "Yup"

Sam: "I'm okay"

Mako: "Girls seems like they're not used to fighting that many Grimm"

Oobleck: "Excellent work, boys and girls! Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any signs of criminal operations in this sector. Oh well moving on" I place Mortem on my hip and Ruby puts Crescent Rose back on her back

Yang: "Hey Doc, you know, I was actually looking forward to seeing pro huntsman in action. Like fighting, or at least, helping us fight"

Oobleck: "Ah, but I am in action. Scouring the ruins of this once great city for any signs of irregularity. Not every mission is filled with daring and heroism, young ones. Sometimes, it's just a heightened form of extermination. Remember, this is a job, and you all signed up for it. I do hope you understand that"

(Y/N): "We choose this mission Yang, it's our work. I know why I'm here and I hope you all also know why you are here"

Yang: "Well, yeah... O-Of course!"

Oobleck: "Hmm"

After some time and more walking we ran into another pack of Beowolfes. While I was running around, distracting Grimm for my team, so they can easily kill it I overhead Yang's and Oobleck's talk

Oobleck: "Tell me Yang. Why did you choose this line of work?"

Yang: "Huh? Well, to fight monsters and save-" I run past them with about three Beowolfes and a flying Ryze behind me

Oobleck: "No, that is what you do. I want to know why you do it. The honest reason as to why you want to be a Huntress"

Yang: "The honest reason...I'm a thrill seeker. I wanna travel around the world and get wrapped up in as many crazy adventures as I can. And if I help people along the way, then that's even better. It's a win-win, you know"

Oobleck: "I see"

Few minutes passed and I can hear Oobleck now talking with Weiss

Oobleck: "And you, Miss Schnee. A girl born into fame and fortune such as yourself certainly doesn't need the extra work. So, why choose this over a cushy job in Atlas?"

Weiss: "It's exactly as you said, I'm a Schnee. I have a legacy of honor to uphold. Once I realized I was capable of fighting, there was no longer a question of what I would do with my life...It was my duty"

Oobleck: "Interesting"

After a few minutes of fighting I can now hear Oobleck speaking with Blake this time

'Geez, who is next? Ryze? Or maybe Ruby?' I think as I stab one Beowolf in the chest and fire Mortem's shotgun, killing it

Oobleck: "And what about you Blake? You seem to carry yourself with a sense of purpose"

Blake: "There's too much wrong in this world to just stand by and do nothing. Inequality, corruption, someone has to stop it"

Oobleck: "Very well. How?"

Blake: "I, uh..."

Oobleck: "Hmm" he zooms to Ryze next "And you Ryze, why did you decided to become a Huntsman?"

Ryze: "In first place it was to find my brother"

Oobleck: "But he is right here. So what's driving you now?"

Ryze: "To be honest Doctor. When me and Sam were little we always watched Huntsman and Huntresses in TV with sparkly eyes. We wanted to be like them, but, I had my doubts if my semblance will help me in this. After meeting (Y/N) he showed me the way it can be useful and so I'm here. I also think that being a Huntsman is a nice line of work. You fight monsters and you're paid to do that"

Oobleck: "I see" he later gets near Sam "So, Samuel, any reason why you choose the profession of a Huntsman instead of taking over your mother's company?" Samuel kills one Beowolf with his sword and turns to Doctor

Sam: "I assume Ryze already told you, Doctor Oobleck, that we always watched Huntsman in TV when we were little. As to why not taking over my mom's business, I want to work hard to earn everything. I don't want to be on my mother's mercy. Since our parents divorce I had people serving me with everything, from food to toys and clothes. And I'm so sick of this. Being a Huntsman will allow me to cut myself out of this snobbish life. I can finally live my life like I want"

Oobleck: "Interesting" He get next to Mako as he crushed the skull of Beowolf with his mace "What about you, Michael, what's your reason to become a Huntsman?"

Mako: "Doctor, since I was little me and my family lived in the slums of Vale. We only got out of there thanks to my father's new contract with Health Ministry, but it's still hard to make ends meet. I wanted to become a Huntsman for two reasons, one is to help my family and second is to get revenge"

Oobleck: "On who, may I ask?"

Mako: "On Weiss's father"

Oobleck: "Explain"

Mako: "I have a little adoptive sister. Her name is Alice and she is a wolf Faunus. We found her one day when I and my father were coming home from some medical conference in Atlas. She was sitting on the streets, cold, hungry, without anyone near her. We took her with us and now she is a part of our family. Later we found out that her biological parents died in Schnee Dust Company's Dust mines. I won't stop until that beast of a man is behind the bars"

Oobleck: "And after you get your revenge, what will you do?"

Mako: "I will take missions, travel the world, typical Huntsman's stuff"

Oobleck: "Hmm" Just as I expected he will come to me, Oobleck walks away

'He must've know why I want to become a Huntsman'

After killing the last Grim I walked to Ruby to see she is holding a turkey on Crescent Rose, making Zwei do the flips

(Y/N): "Petals, is that our dinner?" she look up to see me and Oobleck behind me, watching the whole commotion

Ruby: "Uhh, no! Sorry! Uh, are we ready to keep going?"

Oobleck: "Nope, I believe that will have to do for today. It's going to be dark soon. you six, set up camp in that building. Oh, and please do make sure there are no more of those...creatures. Your leaders and I are going to secure the perimeter. Come, Ruby, (Y/N)"

We leave to secure the perimeter. After coming around the corner we could see forested region with massive Grimm traveling through it

Ruby: "Woah. What is that? It looks awesome"

Oobleck: "That, my dear girl, is a Grimm"

(Y/N): "To be more specific, Goliaths"

Oobleck: "Correct!" we stare at them until Ruby put her weapon out

Ruby: "Let's kill it"

(Y/N): "Not a wise move, Ruby"

Ruby: "What! Why?"

Oobleck: "(Y/N) is right, Ruby. I'm afraid your sniper rifle will do nothing more than agitate a Grimm of that size"

Ruby: "But... What if it attacks us?"

(Y/N): "They won't, we don't need to worry"

Oobleck: "And once again you are correct Mr. (L/N). Fret not Ruby, those Goliaths are not concerned with us... Ruby, not every Grimm is mindless, or rather, not every Grimm is still mindless. You see, the Grimm you see before you are so powerful, so superior to the Grimm you've fought, that they've undoubtedly lived hundreds of years. And in their time between killing humans and attacking our borders, they've done one important thing. They've learned. They've learned that when they attack our borders, they're likely to die. And what we lack in strength, we make up for in will. And that killing one human will only bring more"

Ruby: "Then...Why are they still so close to the city? What are they doing?"

Oobleck: "Waiting"

(Y/N): "Waiting for an occasion to attack to be honest"

Oobleck: "It seems you have a knowledge about this creatures (Y/N). Have you run into them before?"

(Y/N): "When I was still training with my grandmother we had some occasions to watch them"

Oobleck: "Hmm"

Ruby: "Doctor Oobleck?"

Oobleck: "Hmm?"

Ruby: "I was wondering..."

Oobleck: "Wondering why I've been interrogating your teammates all day?"

Ruby: "A-A-actually, I was wondering...Why did you want to become a Huntsman?"

Oobleck: "Look around and tell me what you see" he gestured to our surroundings and Ruby looks around

Ruby: "Lots of old buildings, uh, empty streets..."

Oobleck: "(Y/N), what do you see?" I look around

(Y/N): "Destruction, despair, deaths that could've been prevented. Is this what you wanted us to see, Doctor?"

Oobleck: "Precisely Mr. (L/N)! I see lives that could have been saved" we started walking again "As a Huntsman, it is my job to protect the people. And although I am capable of doing it with traditional weaponry, I believe I can make a much larger impact if I do it with my mind. As a teacher, I'm able to take knowledge, the most powerful weapon of them all, and place it into the hands of every student that passes through my classroom. I look at this wasteland, and I see lives that could've been saved, but I also see an opportunity. An opportunity to study these ruins and learn from this tragedy, and therefore become stronger. I am a Huntsman, Ruby, because there is nothing else in this world I would rather be"

We get back to the campsite, upon entering we are greeted by a campfire and our teammates standing or crouching around the campfire

Oobleck: "Ah, wonderful! A textbook campfire!" 

Ruby: "Fire!" She immediately goes to sit in front of the fire "So... warm..." I laugh a little

(Y/N): "Petals, I'm basically a living campfire. If you were cold, you could've asked me" I get my hand on fire to demonstrate and later I sit down next to Ruby as I get my arm around her shoulders. She instantly relax into it

Ruby: "Even... warmer..." I chuckled

Oobleck: "Very good! Eat your dinners and hurry to bed. We have a lot of ground to cover tomorrow, and we'll need you to take turns keeping watch over our temporary abode. Any volunteers for first watch?"

Ruby: "Yo"

(Y/N): "There is eight of us so we can go in pairs. I'll go with Ruby" Oobleck zooms away and me Ruby and Zwei get up in search for a vantage point

Yang: "Hey, did Oobleck ask you why you wanted to be a Huntress. I mean...what did you tell him?" we stopped

Ruby: "No, he didn't. Weird. Oh well, goodnight guys" she walks off. I was about to go too but...

Sam: "What about you (Y/N)? Did he asked you?"

(Y/N): "No. And I think it's the same reason he didn't asked Ruby. Ever since my dad told me about his job I wanted to be like him, to serve and protect people and help those in need. To be their light of hope. He was supposed to train me after his return from mission, but he never came back. I couldn't start training until my grandma offered she will train me. Becoming a Huntsman is everything what I ever wanted to be since I was four, so naturally I accepted. Same as Ruby. She dreamed about being a Huntress when she was little. Oobleck knew that we wanted to become Huntsman, while you six didn't" silence occurred for a while, that's until Ruby shouted from next room

Ruby: "Cookie! Come on!"

(Y/N): "I will be there Petals!" I shouted back "Goodnight guys" I walked up and saw Ruby petting Zwei as a howl can be hard in the distance. I sit next to her and she leans on my shoulder and Zwei jumps on our legs

Ruby: "Don't worry. Things will be better tomorrow" she petted Zwei

(Y/N): "Always looking for a light in the tunnel, don't you Petals?"

Ruby: "Yhm" we looked into the distance

*One hour later*

We are still on the watch. There is one hour left of our duty. I got my arm around Ruby's shoulders and Zwei is sleeping on our legs as I scratch him behind his ear

'And I thought Port's class were boring'

Ruby: "*yawn* Cookie, are you bored too?"

(Y/N): "Yhm" I saw her eyes are slowly closing "Ruby, if you want you can go to sleep. I can take the watch alone"

Ruby: "Ok, goodnight" she leaned on my shoulder and closed her eyes

(Y/N): "Goodnight, Petals. Love you"

Ruby: "I love *yawn* you too" and she went to sleep while I look into the distance as another howl can be heard
