*late afternoon, Vale, (Y/N) POV*

Finally! After seven years of grandma Maria's murderous training I'm here. Vale. Home of Beacon Academy. Mom wanted me to go somewhere closer to home, and by that to go to Atlas Academy but, I wanted to attend the same school my dad went when he trained to become Huntsman. One day he went on a mission with one of his closer friends from Beacon and they both never returned. It happened when I was six, so eleven years ago.

When I was in thoughts I felt my scroll ringing. Upon getting it out of my pocket I saw it was my mom calling. I answered

(Y/N): "Hi mom"

Mom: "(Y/N)! My baby boy! It's so nice to finally hear you!"

Yeah, my mom may be one of the Atlas 'smartest' but she always have this positivity an happiness emitting from her, nothing like snobs all around Atlas or one particular Schnee. 

Mom: "How are you doing? How is Vale treating you? Do you met any new friends? Do you maintenance your weapon like Mr. Polendina told you? Do you remember about dust?..." She continued as I turned off

'Mom, I'm seventeen, Oh my Oum she just went full mother mode'

(Y/N): "Mom, I'm fine. I just arrived in Vale and I was on my way to buy some dust. And don't worry, I clean and maintenance Mortem like Mr. Polendina told me" I continued to walk until I spotted a dust shop called 'Dust Till Dawn' "I gotta go mom, I will call after initiation"

Mom: "(Y/N), my son, please be careful. I don't want to lose you like we lost your father..." I could hear my mom's voice started to crack. My dad was the love of her life, they loved each other beyond everything. When the news about his death came... she was devastated.

(Y/N): "Don't worry mom. I will"

Mom: "Good. Bye (Y/N)!" 

(Y/N): "Bye mom" And we ended the call. 

I was about to enter the shop when I saw a guy in black getting tackled by a girl in red hood out of the window. She got her weapon out and it transformed into a massive red scythe

'Huh, another scythe welder...'

She swung her weapon around finally impaling it's blade in the ground.

Bowler hat guy: "Okay... Get her" He then looked at me as I was about to enter the shop "Him too"

(Y/N): "Oh great..." 

I took Mortem from my back and got it into a scythe config. Some of the goons went to attack the girl. She was doing a pretty good job, one of the goons was about to attack her from behind, but I just kicked him in the chest and finished a second henchman with a shotgun. I started to back up as they were trying to circle my, until I felt someone on my back. I looked behind to see this girl

(Y/N): "Hey Red, mind if I help?"

Red looked at my weapon and her eyes sparkled

Red: "Oh my gosh! You also have a scythe! It's so cool!"

(Y/N): "Thanks Red, I would gladly tell you about it later but now" We looked around "We have some bad guys to stop"

We disposed the rest of Bowler hat guy's men, Red was actually very skilled with her weapon and I was wondering who taught her. The only person I knew was skilled with scythes was my grandma.

(Y/N): "Nice job Red. Who taught you how to weld a scythe?"

Red: "Oh! My unc..." She was cut off by the Bowler hat

Bowler hat guy: "Well, Red and Blue. I think we can all say that it's been an eventful evening, and as much as I'd love to stick around... I'm afraid this is where we part ways"

He lifts his cane, which turned into a gun and fires at Red. She was about to jump out of the way when I create a fire shield and stood before her to block the bullet

Red: "Huh?"

(Y/N): "You okay Red?" I turned my head to look at her. 

'She also have silver eyes... If what grandma said is true that means we both have some kind of power thanks to that'

Red: "How did you do this?! Is that your semblance?!" She asked all excited "oh, and yeah, I'm okay" she blushed slightly. We both looked around in search of our suspect, only to see him climbing a ladder, then shop owner get out "You okay if we go after him?"

He responded with a quick "uh huh", and we rushed after the ginger. When we arrived on the roof he was reaching it's edge

Both: "Hey!"

Bowler hat guy: "Persistant..." me and Red get our scythes ready to strike, when a bullhead appears and Bowled hat guy gets in. He then turned around to address us. "End of the line, Red and Blue" He throw a fire dust crystal at us and shoot it. Before I could create another fire shield, a blonde woman wearing a purple cape created one of her own. 

We looked at her as she utters a quick "hmph" before adjusting her glasses and waving her weapon sending several streaks of purple towards the ship. She later sends another beam on top of the bullhead creating a rain of crystals. Then a woman in red dress get near the entrance and shots a fire at her, which she blocks using another shield.

(Y/N): "Hehe. Oi! You are not the only one who can control fire!" the woman in red dress then aim her shot at me, before it could hit me I get my arm straight and caught it. The fire dance a little in my hand before creating a ball in the size of my palm "Back to the sender!" I throw it at her, and while she just dodged it, it left a nice melted hole in their bullhead "Fucking shit I missed" then I felt someone slapping me in the head. I turned around to see it was Red

Red: "Language!"

(Y/N): "Really Red? It's not the time. Try shooting at that thing"

Red: "Yhm" 

We started to fire at the bullhead. Red with her sniper rifle and I with my shotgun. Red was able to hit the woman in dress, angering her. She erupted the ground under us, but that blonde woman was able to get us out of the way. I stood up only to see the bullhead has gotten away. Red then looked at the blonde woman with stars in her eyes

Red: "You're a huntress?! Can I have your autograph?!"

(Y/N): "Hey Professor Goodwitch... nice weather we have tonight... hehe" I scrapped the nape of my neck as Professor Goodwitch stared at us disappointingly

*timeskip, Vale Police Department*

After our little encounter Glynda took me and Red to the Police Station. We are sitting in the interrogation room. Red was looking down with a face full of shame. I just sat there, not carrying while Professor Goodwitch scolded us both

Glynda: "I hope that you realize that your actions tonight will not be taken lightly, young man and lady. You put yourselves and others in great danger"

(Y/N): "Professor, not to be rude but, they started it"

Red: "Yeah!"

Glynda: "If it were up to me, you'd be sent home... With a pat on the back... *Red smiles and Glynda notices this* "And a slap on the wrist" Glynda smacked her riding crop, making Red jump and emit a small "Eeek!" while I chuckled

'She have one of the most dangerous weapons on her, and yet, she is scarred of Glynda'

Glynda: "But... there is someone who would like to meet you two"

She moved aside allowing a man in green wearing glasses to enter the room. He was holding a mug and a plate of cookies

Man in green: "Ruby Rose and (Y/N) (L/N)..." he looked at both Red's, now known as Ruby, and my eyes "you both have silver eyes"

Ruby: "Uh,um..."

(Y/N): "Yeah, what about it?"

Man in green: "So. Where did you both learn to do this?" he showed us a tablet with me and Ruby fighting the bad guys

Ruby: "S-Signal Academy"

(Y/N): "My grandmother trained me"

Man in green: "They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?" he addressed Ruby

Ruby: "Well, one teacher in particular"

Man in green: "I see..." He placed the cookies on the table in front of us. Ruby looked at me

(Y/N): "Go ahead Ruby. I ate before I went to town" she smiled and started eating cookies. Well, eating was a bad word, she was practically inhaling them "Easy there Cookie Monster, no one will take them from you" she blushed slightly at me calling her 'Cookie Monster' while I chuckle looking at her vacuuming the rest

Man in green: "It's just that I've only seen one other scythe wielder of that skill before. A dusty, old crow..."

(Y/N): "Who?"

Ruby: "Mmm! Thash muh unkul!" she said with full mouth and later swallowed and wiped her mouth of the crumbs "Sorry, that's my Uncle Qrow! He's a teacher at Signal. I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing. And now, I'm all like... Hooowahh! Witchaa!" she swung her arms, trying to imitate karete moves while I chuckled at her again

Man in green: "So I've noticed. And what is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a school designed to train warriors?"

Ruby: "Well... I want to be a Huntress"

Man in green: "You want to slay monsters?"

Ruby: "Yeah! I only have two more years of training left at signal! And then I'm going to apply to Beacon! You see, my sister's starting there this year, and she's trying to become a Huntress, and I'm trying to become a Huntress 'cause I wanna help people. My parents always taught us to help others, so I thought, Hey, I might as well make a career out of it! I mean the police are alright, but Huntsman and Huntresses are just so much more romantic and exciting and cool and really, gosh you know!" I just smiled at her childish behavior

'She is too innocent for this world'

Then the man in green turned to me

Man in green: "And you, Mr.(L/N). Who taught you how to use a scythe? By your reaction on Ms.Rose uncle I assume it wasn't Qrow"

(Y/N): "Well, as I said, my grandma taught me everything I know, from hand to hand combat to using a scythe. I trained under her eye since I was ten"

Man in green: "I see. Any specific reason why?"

(Y/N): "I want to follow my father's steps and become a Huntsman. He was a good man who helped everyone who needed it. He always put everyone before him. I want to be a Huntsman to help people in need, to be the light of hope for those who live in darkness. Just like my father"

Man in green: "You are from Atlas (Y/N), so why didn't you choose Atlas Academy?"

(Y/N): "My father attended Beacon, and this Academy formed him into the Huntsman I always remembered. So I though 'Hey, dad was here, and he was one of the best Huntsman in Atlas, if I want to be strong, if I really want to be the light of hope for people, I should choose Beacon' besides, I can't stand the cold of the Atlas after living in Mistral for seven years with my grandmother" Ruby looked at me, there is sadness behind her eyes as she put a hand on my shoulder and smiling slightly at me. I returned the smile and she blushed while looking away from me. I looked away too to avoid further embarrassment

Man in green: "Hmm, do you know who I am?"

Ruby: "You're Professor Ozpin"

(Y/N): "Headmaster at Beacon"

Ozpin: "Hello"

Ruby: "Nice to meet you"

(Y/N): "Same"

Ozpin: "You two want to come to my school?"

Ruby: "More than anything"

(Y/N): "I'm already enrolled, but yeah, sure"

Ozpin looked at Glynda as she shows her disapproval. He then looked back at me and Ruby

Ozpin: "Well, okay"

Ruby's excitement went over her as she hugged me. She was jumping up and down while I just stood there with blush on my face. She realized the situation and separate from me, with a blush almost as red as her hood

Ruby: "S-Sorry (Y/N)..."

(Y/N): "N-nothing happened Ruby. Don't worry"

Ozpin: "Ms. Rose, you are free to go. Mr. (L/N), if you could stay with us a little longer

(Y/N): "Yeah, sure"

Ruby: "Oh my Oum! Dad and Yang will be so excited when they hear about this! Bye (Y/N)! See you in Beacon!" She waved

(Y/N): "Catch you later Rubes!" she blushed again as I was returning the wave. Soon she was on her way home

Glynda: "What were you even doing in Vale that late young man?"

(Y/N): "Professor, my bullhead just arrived and I was low on dust. I decided to go buy some and what happened later you already know"

Ozpin: "So (Y/N), how is your first reaction about Vale?"

(Y/N): "For sure it's warmer than in Atlas, Professor" he smiled

Ozpin: "I'm glad you think so. How is your mother?"

(Y/N): "Busy working on some new tech for Ironwood"

Ozpin: "Ahh, James and his toys. You know, he was disappointed that you choose Beacon over Atlas"

(Y/N): "He knew that my decision was final and he should get over it"

Ozpin: "Your case is similar to that of Ms. Nikos" at the mention of Pyrrha's name my eyes widened

(Y/N): "Wait, Pyrrha is here too?!" he nodded "She chose Beacon over Haven?!"

Ozpin: "Just like you choose Beacon over Atlas. It seams like this will be a very exciting year"

(Y/N): "I'm for sure will not get bored" I smiled lightly "If that's all Professors, can I get back to my hotel room? I still have to clean Mortem and get ready for initiation"

Ozpin: "Very well. Goodnight to you (Y/N)"

(Y/N): "Goodnight" with that I exited the room and went on my way to the hotel

*3rd POV*

When (Y/N) exited the room, Glynda and Ozpin were discussing what happened

Ozpin: "These two are just like their parents..."

Glynda: "I'm just hoping that (Y/N) won't set the school on fire like his father did"

Ozpin: "Ah, The Great Fire at Beacon. I remember Summer was the one who scolded Albert while he was roasting some marshmallows"

Glynda: "Summer had her part of causing trouble too. Like when she flooded her room with cookies"

Ozpin: "It's really gonna be an interesting year..."
