The Everlasting Movie of Us
Dayton pulled out his video camera as we walked down the streets of our city. "Stop," I laughed, turning away.
"You look gorgeous tonight, like a movie star. Why not make a movie of you?" he complimented. I blushed, smiling widely, and ran down the sidewalk, jumping onto a bench.
"Willow," Dayton addressed me. I hummed, promoting him to say what he pleased. "Pick a piece of paper from your back pocket," he instructed. Confusedly, I reached into the rear pocket on my left side. Nothing. I tried my right, and my hand collided with skinny slips of paper. I smiled and extracted one, unfolding it to read it.
"You'll never believe what just happened," I announced, looking at Dayton for an explanation.
He zoomed in on my face as I raised an eyebrow. He clarified, "Are you going to tell me? Please, you left me on a cliffhanger!"
I chuckled when I realized what was going on. "My boyfriend was being weird, but I'm sure you could've guessed that!" I told him, laughing.
"Come on, do some more!" he ordered. I giggled as I pulled out another paper.
"I love so many things about my boyfriend. Like, I could probably name more than ten amazing things," I read from the note. Although it was true, I rolled my eyes at Dayton's cockiness.
"So what are those things?" he wondered.
I began to ramble off many things I loved about Dayton: "Well, he's adorable, makes me laugh, always there for me, keeps me sane, a great smile, and man, I feel like so much more of a better person around him!" I listed more, and we were both satisfied.
More papers came out of my pocket. There were so many in there, and I'd only noticed when Dayton mentioned it. We neared my apartment and I knew the night would soon come to a close.
"Get the last paper out of your pocket," he told me. I reached back but found none.
I turned to him to ask, "Where is it? It's not in my back pocket."
"Keep walking." He motioned his finger forward. I did so, and he continued, "The last one is in your hoodie's pocket. You haven't felt it there?"
"No, I haven't," I giggled, reaching my hand into my pocket to connect to another piece. I opened it to read it and saw that it was no longer a prompt for me. It was Dayton talking, and I began to read, "Willow, will you..."
I spun around and saw Dayton down on one knee with a small box opened toward me and the video camera in the other hand. My mouth flung open.
"Finish it." He smiled, and I read the rest, "...marry me? Dayton, of course!" He stood up, kissed me, and carried me the whole way back to my apartment. That night was when I finally realized how truly happy Dayton, now my husband, makes me. The movie of us is now everlasting.
