Then There Was One part 1
Castella Fausen sighed inwardly as she drove down the winding dirt road, still not exactly sure why she agreed to go see her uncle who had just moved out here. Didn't matter though because a gate was coming in view, with a collection of about eight cars on the sides of it. Castella frowned in confusion as she parked her car in the odd line of others cars. Her uncle never said in his email that he was having a lot of guests over, but it couldn't hurt, she was only going to be there for a couple of hours. As she reached the gate, it opened automatically, it's eerie rustic look made her truly question why her uncle would but such a place. Why should she care though, it's not like he ever really talked to her anymore these days, always off on vacations or something while she was trying to raise a family.
Speaking of which, she hoped her husband could hold down the their three little rascals for the time she was gone. She truly loved him and all, but in all truth, guys weren't made to deal with children the best. She couldn't help but smile as she remembered the last time she had come home to her husband being colored on by their silly little monsters of kids. She then snapped back to reality, realising she had been walking up the driveway during the time she was off in though and found herself standing in front of a group of nine other people.
A man who seemed to be in his late twenties and a lady who didn't look to far off from the man's age were talking, well Castella thought they were, the man didn't open his mouth to say anything. A well dressed business looking man stood next to a younger teenager who was most likely his daughter, they didn't really seem interested in talking to anyone else. The last four were all standing in a group chatting warmly which is the group Castella joined.
One of the guys in the group, a man looking about 27 greeted her, "Hey, looks like your joining the party! Waiting for the owners too? We have been here for about an hour and still no owners. The name is Zachariah Stupa." He winked with a smile at her making Castella blush with a giggle. Another young man with a military look rolled his eyes at Zachariah, "Stop being a flirt. You know her for a total of five seconds and you are already crushing on her. The name is Conrad Housed m'am." Conrad was very sincere in his greeting, growing up in a household that taught him manners and etiquette his greeting could be nothing less than formal. The other two, who quickly introduced themselves as Jack Feither and Vince Swaston, didn't really seem to care that another person joined and simply continued talking about boating.
The sun was starting to set, causing Castella's brown hair to seem a radiant Amber like she was wearing a small sun. For a few more minutes, conversation continued, unaware of the horrors about befall them. Vince was the first to comment on the noise.
"Hey, guys. I think I hear something? Sounds like a small scratching sound," Vince remarks as he strains to hear where the sound is coming from. The whole group falls silent and listen to the small scratching sound, slowly turning their heads to the door of the house. The other two couples were looking as well, the silent man had a look of shock as he knew what was behind the door.
Suddenly, the door opened, not as if it were forced, but oddly looked like it was simply pushed open. Four pairs of yellow eyes were all Castella and the others could see as her heart started to beat faster and time slowed down. Four sleek, muscular wolves walked out of the house, sniffing the air as they growled with hunger. All at once, time went from slow motion into fast motion, sending people flying towards the gate, scrambling to get away from the vicious creatures as they took chase, closing in on one person. Castella looked back to see a wolf jump at her, causing her to fall to the ground, ending her chances of surviving, she screamed as the wolves dragged her bleeding body back to the house, eating her as they went.
Zachariah didn't look back as he heard the scream, grabbing the bars of the closed gate to try and force it open, sadly his body jumped around wildly and soon he fell to the ground, never to get up again. The other eight stood there in horror, the teenage girl crying into her father's side. Conrad couldn't process what had just happened, but knew the remaining group needed shelter.
"Everyone, we must seek shelter immediately, the sun is almost gone, and it isn't safe out here," he stated, as he started making his way towards the more wooded part of the estate. No one opposed his idea, all following behind him silently with Vince bringing up the rear. The procession was a sad and disorderly mess as they trekked through the forest, the sun almost gone to their horror. Not too long into the search, they came upon a cabin that didn't seem too much in disrepair, it even had a well near it. Conrad entered first, prepared to find a wolf pack, but instead was greeted by eight beds in two rows, neatly against the walls.
The others entered, terrified, distraught, and in shock, two people just died. They had died quickly out of nowhere because of odd circumstances that just didn't add up. Conrad was about to say something when an old radio starts to play from its spot in the corner on an old little wooden table causing the group to jump.
"Ten little wolves running for their lives
One got caught and then there were nine.
Nine little wolves traveled to a gate
One got shocked and then there were eight," a cracking monotone voice whispered through the radio in a sinister voice that could not be identified by a gender,"Eight little wolves traveled up to heaven
One said he stay there and then there were seven.
One little wolf went to the river with a bag of tricks
he floated down and then there were six.
Six little wolves playing with some twine
one got hung up and then there were five.
Five little wolves couldn't stand it anymore
one took it too far and then there were four," The attendants of the room could only listen, like a snake of fear had constricted each one into shock,"Four little wolves climbing up trees
One fell down and then there were three.
Three little wolves feeling so blue
one cried himself to death and then there were two.
Two little wolves laughing having fun
one got caught in a hole and then there was one.
One little wolf sat in the sun
until it died and then there were none."
The voice died away, leaving only a crackling as the room remained silent, a coat of fear covering them all. None dared to speak as one by one they looked at the others in the room. One by one they all thought the same idea, only in different words. One by one they started to suspect one another as the overall thought slowly washed over them, one of them is a killer.
