Round 2//Prompt [2]//
Round 2: I went with Prompt 2.
Words: 3598
Last night I was a normal person. I was a college student studying acting, I knew who my friends were, I knew what was going on in my life. I was in total control of anything to do with myself. I was just a normal 19 year old boy. Everything for me changed the next day.
The following morning, I woke up different. For some reason I felt odd. As I was watching the news a story revolving around a murder, and that the victim had been found but the body couldn't be identified. Then another story came on about how the president was going to start making school more easier and less complicated, I wanted to jump with joy at that. My head was buzzing all through out the two stories, it was as if a bee was flying around inside my head trying to settle somewhere, yet it never did. I was making my breakfast when someone knocked on my door.
"Hello?" I said when I opened the door seeing that it was my neighbor, Carly, a very shy girl that usually tripped when she saw me for some odd reason.
"Hi, Lucas," she said, I looked down at her hands seeing she was holding a tea cup, "do you have some extra sugar?" she asked hesitant.
"Oh yeah sure! c'mon in," I said opening the door for her to enter. She followed behind me silently. It was starting to get awkward but I didn't know what to ask. I was turning around when I saw her right behind me. I jumped slightly almost dropping the teacup with sugar. Carly continued to look at me, it was making me feel weird.
"Uh," I started to speak, she had pretty hazel eyes if he was going to be honest, then before I knew it she had leaned up and kissed me right on the lips. I was so shocked, I immediately tried to pull away, but she wouldn't let go of me.
This was horrible, Carly's lips were full of strawberry chapstick? He hated strawberries. I stopped moving hoping she'd stop soon.
"HEY!" I heard a familiar shout and before I knew it Carly was off of me as if a someone had said I was infected with a disease. I looked and saw it was, Sarah Carson, my best friend since I had been kicked out of my parents house at sixteen.
Sarah, had blonde hair (which was straightened) with green eyes, she was beautiful, today she was wearing dark jeans and a white blouse that seemed classy, what stood out was her white heeled shoes.
"Who do you think you are?" Sarah asked Carly a glare on her face that seemed to scare Carly, as she backed away from me, but then surprisingly Carly got defensive.
"Who are you?" Carly asked an ugly sneer on her usual quiet face. Sarah continued to stare at Carly as if she was just a piece of gum stuck under her shoe. I remembered then, no one really knew who Sarah was she usually never came to my apartment they would always go to hers.
"I'm his girlfriend," Sarah told her with a smirk. My head buzzed loudly, which was weird.
That seemed to break Carly's strong facade, she looked close to tears as she looked back at me, "I'm sorry Lucas, it was a dare, my friends dared me to do it," and she ran out of the room, but just as she finished her sentence my head buzzed loudly again. Huh that was weird.
The door slammed shut bringing me out of my thoughts and Sarah just looked at me with a smirk on her face.
"Thanks for that," I told her with a smile.
"You're not the only one who's good at acting," Sarah told me, her green eyes shining with humor. Then she burst out laughing like a crazy woman, I just stared at her with an annoyed expression on my face.
"I don't get why you didn't just tell her," Sarah asked me after she had calmed down enough to speak.
"I didn't get a chance too, she just attacked me!" I told her hysterically, my hands waving in the air, grabbing two water bottles from the fridge, handing one to her.
Sarah snorted into her water as she sipped it.
"Sometimes it's just hard being as handsome as I am," I told her puffing my chest out proudly.
"You mean it's hard being gay and cute," Sarah corrected me.
I huffed at her "handsome you mean," I told her.
"Ha, no you're not," I pouted, then rubbed my head as it buzzed once again.
"What's wrong?" Sarah asked concerned.
"It's weird all morning my heads been buzzing, through the news, when you said I was your boyfriend, when Carly stormed out, just right now when you said I wasn't handsome," I told her sitting down.
"That's odd," Sarah said looking down gripping the water bottle tighter crushing it a little.
"Are you okay?" I asked her now.
"I'm fine," Sarah said putting a smile on her pale face.
My head buzzed again and it was like something clicked in place after that, "you're lying," I told her with a glare, "every time my heads buzzed is because you've been lying to me!" I yelled crossing my arms against my chest.
"Oh my god!" I shouted in realization.
Sarah looked up startled.
"The president just lied to the public!" I pitifully moaned. I was actually hoping the president was saying the truth.
"Your an idiot," Sarah told me, my head felt normal, she was telling the truth with that statement.
"Well, I wanna test this out!" I said smiling.
"What's your hair color?" I asked after a moment of silence. Sarah glared at me before grabbing her hair as if saying are you blind.
"Blonde"
Buzz
"What's your eye color?"
"Green"
Buzz.
"Do you know anything about what's happened to me?"
"No"
Buzz.
My heart was thudding painfully and loudly so far everything my best friend had said was a complete lie, but I knew what to ask, to see if everything she ever told me was a lie.
"What's your full name," I whispered.
"Sarah Jude Carson"
Buzz.
I looked at her my eyes filled with betrayal, "how could you? Is everything you ever told me also a lie?" I asked hurt, I turned away from her hoping to hide my tears, I hadn't felt this hurt since I'd gotten kicked out of my house when I was sixteen.
"Lucas, I never meant to hurt you I swear! It's just there's somethings you don't know about yourself," Sarah told me her voice pleading with me to understand maybe. I knew she wasn't lying as my head stayed calm.
I opened my mouth to say something but Sarah's phone chirped, she'd gotten a text message. She read it urgently and looked up in horror at me.
"We need to leave, quickly," She said with a whisper.
"Why?" I asked annoyed I wanted answers.
"Lucas," she said pleading.
"No, were not leaving, until I get some answers!" I huffed angry, she had basically just told me her whole appearance and identity was a lie!
"I'll tell you later, I promise we just need to leave now," she said quickly, looking at her phone again. My head stayed calm and I knew I should just leave with her.
"Fine,"
Just as I said that, the whole floor shook and the wall beside me blew up, both Sarah and I flew to the ground in pain.
"Shit!" Sarah yelled grabbing my arm and pulling me down and hiding us behind the couch.
Men had stormed in and they were holding guns, and pistols, I gulped I was going to die today. I just knew it. Sarah looked at the window behind us pensive.
"When I say jump, jump out the window," Sarah said looking at me.
"What?" I yelled silently, we were on the third floor!
"Trust me Lucas, you'll be fine," Sarah said grabbing my hand and squeezing it. I nodded my heart was beating loudly, the men in black could probably hear it. I knew I could trust her. My head hadn't buzzed, but I knew as my best friend (even if she did lie a lot) she wouldn't lie to me about my life if it were in danger.
"If I die, I'll kill you," I told her angry.
She looked at me in disbelieve, "I can't believe you just used the most cliche line ever," she muttered and I blushed looking away quickly from her. I opened my mouth but she shushed me.
I could hear the steps coming to the couch, I held my breath. I saw Sarah leaning for her bag and she waited and just when the man looked behind the couch she pulled out a gun from her bag and shot him in the face. I gasped loudly, all the men were rushing over now they started shooting and window behind me shattered into pieces.
"JUMP! NOW!" Sarah yelled, I held my breath, sent a prayer to god and jumped out the window with my eyes closed. I waited for the impact to hit me, I waited for the pain but it never came, instead I landed on something soft yet hard at the same time.
I opened my eyes and noticed I was inside a car, there was others as well in their but, I was in someones lap, I looked up into startling blue eyes. I gasped rushing to get of and in the seat across from him
'Why did I have to land in a cute guys lap' I thought to myself. I truly had the worst luck ever.
Next thing I knew Sarah, had landed inside the car as well yelling at the driver to step on it and quickly, I looked at her closely and noticed her hair was messy, she had blood stains on her white shirt and face. She was also missing a heel.
"What the hell just happened!" I yelled confused, what was going on, was this real life? Was I dreaming? I wanted answers damn it!
"Lucas calm down..." Sarah started to tell me.
"DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!" I yelled at her angry.
"Wow, your worse then a girl," the guy whose lap I landed on told me with a smirk, crossing his perfect featured face.
"Who are you?" I asked wanting to yell at him to but controlled myself.
"Jake Onfield," he said, I grumbled angry he was saying the truth, I wanted to catch him in the act. I stared though, he had a beautiful face, with amazing cheekbones and facial hair. Sarah coughed and glared at me.
"Mine," she said kissed Jake's cheek lightly.
Of course Sarah would have this handsome hunk for a boyfriend, why were all the cute ones straight he wondered.
"I want my answers," I finally said.
Sarah sighed, "ask away I'll try and answer the best I can,"
"What's the real you," I asked.
"Hi Lucas, my name is Sandra Melia Lewis, but I prefer it if you'd call me Sarah still. I have brown hair and blue eyes, I'm twenty-two years old, my boyfriend is Jake, my best friend is Lucas Bane," she said answering all my questions from before truthfully. She looked away from me and when she looked back she had blue eyes. She reached up to her head and took of the wig revealing her brown hair that was wavy instead of the usual straight it always was.
I gaped in shock, but quickly recovered.
"Why is all this happening?" Sarah-er Sandra? Looked at a man besides me, and nodded his head.
"Your special," Sarah said looking at me with a smile.
"Oh My God," I said loudly.
"What?"
"I'm a wizard, aren't I?" I asked my voice masked with disbelieve.
"What? No," Sarah said.
"I'm a demigod?" I tried again.
"NO! Lucas you're not that special," Sarah told me and all I could do was pout as Jake laughed into his hand.
"Then?"
"Okay, it all starts with your parents, they were special people, who were making a device to change the future, but the would involve change. I'm sad to say but some people didn't want change. Your parents were always on the run, then they finally made the device and you were born as well, then one day when you were playing and got hurt. They had to take you to the hospital where the doctors had to check your head, they decided then that your head would be the perfect place to store the device," Sarah told me all at once, only a little out of breath.
"My parents?" I asked, that must be a lie they always hated me, they always treated me like I was some disease. Yet my head hadn't buzzed like it usually did.
"Your parent's love you a lot," Jake told me seriously like he had read my mind, why wasn't my head buzzing, they hated me. I knew it.
"Your lying," I said close to tears, was everything I knew a lie? It seemed so controversial how I get to be able to tell when someone is lying, yet everything from my life is just a lie.
"Am I really?" he asked an eyebrow raised my way.
I looked out the window.
"Then why did they make me leave?" the question was out of my mouth before I could stop myself.
"Your parents made a lot of enemies, it got out that you were the device. People wanted to kill you, they knew then that in order to protect you, they would have to leave you," Sarah said quietly, her eyes looked into mine before looking at her feet.
I took a shuddering breath, "what?"
Jake looked at me, "they kicked out, the day you told them you were gay, they saw the perfect opening to get you away from them, they took it," he finished.
An old man by the window looked at me for the first time, "I'd never seen, Josh cry as much as he did that night,"
I gasped in disbelief, it was all starting to make a little more sense, the pieces were coming together.
"Someone found out where you were, that's why those men came, they were trying to take you away and experiment on you," Jake told me his lips pursed.
"We've been betrayed, we don't know who it was, but someone went behind our backs," Sarah muttered, she looked up to the front mirror, she must have seen something because her eyes widened.
"It's him, Zach," Sarah whispered to Jake, he looked up to where Sarah had looked, his eyes narrowed.
"The driver," she told me. My eyes widened and I tried not to look back, Sarah looked at me her eyes telling me not to panic.
The car had stopped moving, they were at a stoplight. No one was talking and before I knew it, I was tackled from my left side. A bullet had just passed through the front window and through the back.
Sarah grabbed her gun, also shooting to the front and opened the car door. We were in the middle of the street, many cars were honking at us to get out of the way. It was like they didn't notice that we were getting shot at.
Many people surrounded me, protecting me. I felt useless but I knew that If I tried to help I might make it worse rather than better. People were shooting from all over the place. I kept my head ducked down. I didn't want to watch. Yet I felt myself being moved along. We were running I didn't know where too but I just went too. I lost sight of Sarah and Jake, but I knew they couldn't be too far behind.
Finally we reached a cave like place, they placed in the code, then a man got his eye scanned. Everything seemed to have quieted down. Only the heaving breathing could be heard from me and few other men. Sarah and Jake both rounded the corner running.
Sarah looked up at the roof and ran faster than Jake.
Jake had brought up his gun and started shooting upwards, I didn't know what. Then Sarah stood up as one last shot was heard, only this time it wasn't from Jake's gun. It came from somewhere up. I closed my eyes, waiting for the pain to come but it never did. All I heard was Sarah gasp in shock and thud. my eyes shot open quickly.
No. No. No. Not Sarah, her blouse was covered in more blood, but this time it was all her blood. She taken a shot for me. There was yelling going all over me and I was holding her in my arms. I saw a man shot on the floor. Jake rushed to us and took Sarah from my arms. The door finally opened, it seemed they needed Sarah's blood to open the door fully.
"Why?" I muttered to her as we rushed to get inside.
"I swore to protect you, no matter what," she told me, her eyes filled with pain, that should have been mine not hers.
"Sarah," I made to grab her hand, but was stopped when she shook her head.
"You're my best friend," she told me, tears gathered into my eyes at the truth in her words, I wished to hug her, "don't worry everything will be fine," I wanted to yell at her, my head buzzed. They rushed her away and I knew I couldn't go further. Jake stopped with me, he looked at me sadly.
"I'm sorry," I told him.
"Don't be, we always knew that this job might consist of someone getting hurt, I just wish it had been me instead of her," he said he took a deep breath and grabbed my arm dragging me to another room.
"Lucas!" I heard a shout and was hugged tightly, I couldn't handle it as tears streamed down my face, I held onto my mother as hard as I could and hugged her for all she was worth. I hadn't seen or hugged her in three years. I missed her comfort. I saw dad too and I hugged him as well.
Jake had left the room already, knowing this was a private matter.
The three of us all sat down and talked about everything, we talked about life, then we talked about the device in my head, why was it now just starting to buzz.
"We set the clock to go off in about seventeen years," my dad told me.
"We can have them remove it sweetie," mom told me her blue eyes looking into mine.
I nodded, I didn't want this, my best friend had just gotten shot trying to protect me, my parent's had given up so much for this thing. I wanted it out of me.
I was walking towards Sarah's room too see if she was fine, after a very long talk. I'd be going into brain surgery later that night to get it removed. I was just about to knock on the door, when I saw Jake come out of the room his eyes red as if he had been crying. My heart dropped to the bottom of my stomach. I was thinking the worse when Jake stopped my thinking.
"She's alright, but she had gotten shot in the first fight, then she got shot another time, and finally she got shot the last time," Jake said, "It was too much pain for her body, she fell into a coma we don't know when she'll wake up," his eyes looked teary again but he just shook his head.
"Can I see her?" I asked.
"Yeah, of course," Jake said leaving me standing their.
I walked into the room, the walls were white like any hospital room, I looked and saw Sarah connected to many wires and an oxygen mask on her nose to help her breath. My heart go heavy with guilt. Then I got angry, it wasn't my fault, it was those men who were idiots, who were so afraid of a little change.
Change was good, change meant doing things a better way, he couldn't understand why they were so made about it. This could change a lot things for the better, the government wouldn't have so much trouble. There wouldn't be a need for so much trials.
He looked down and Sarah and her new brown hair. He ran his fingers through her hair, "I swear on my life, I swear I'll get revenge for you Sarah, I swear when you wake up I'll be changed, everything will be changed" I promised her those things, I knew they were true in my own way. I would get stronger, I would learn to fight.
I kissed her forehead, and left the room closing the door gently behind me. I went to the room where the surgery would be taking place. I sat as they all got the things ready for my surgery. I thought of my life and how everything had changed in less than 24 hours. I thought of how naive I was about everything around me. I waited and thought of everything until they told me it was time.
I took a deep breath and laid down on the bed, I looked the white light in front me, I got a strange sense of Deja Vu, and before I knew it a needle had gone in through my arm and the world around me went dark.
