Prompt 3//Joy//
Prompt 3: Feelings
House: Hufflepuff
Feeling: Joy [Not to be confused with happiness]
Joy: A love that lasts no matter what, a soul emotion that never goes away; it can be hidden by feelings of happiness, agony, sadness..but Joy is always with you in the depth of your heart and body as a warmth feeling...hold on to that warmth.
I left my baby, I left my baby to fight, I left because I thought It was the right thing. I left for the greater good. Now looking down at him. I wish I hadn't. I missed him more than I could ever imagine. I knew I could never be same after this.
Months, it'd been months since the final battle at Hogwarts. Months and she still wasn't the same cheerful, happy, joyful, person she used to be. She would just look down and cry. She would sit down and just stare at the ground. He wished to comfort her, yet he didn't know how.
"How is she?" James asked Remus.
"She's crying harder then usually, I don't know why." James looked at his friend in pity, he looked so lost. He didn't look like the Moony his best friend was.
"Go talk to her mate," James told him nodding his head towards the direction of the girl.
Remus did as he was told he walked to where she was sat crying and when she felt him she sobbed into his chest, he tried hard to comfort her. He tried hard not to let his tears out at her loud sobs.
"Oh Remy! He's learned to walk! he's learned to walk and I wasn't there," she sobbed loudly. His friends turned away and Lily who was watching walked away before someone saw her tears as well.
"Shh, darling," Remus tried calming her down, yet nothing seemed to help.
"Our Teddy, Remus, our little baby. He's learned to walk and we weren't there! I wasn't there!" Nymphadora cried out.
It all clicked for Remus in that moment, she was depressed. She didn't just look at the ground for no reason. She was looking at there baby Teddy. He was ashamed with himself for not thinking of checking on his baby. Yet being up there with his old friends whom he hadn't seen in so long...He knew it was no reason. He couldn't see why Tonks had been so affected though.
He let her cry into his chest. He let her and maybe a few of his own tears slipped out as he held the Hufflepuff closer to him. Remus for the first time ever looked down and saw him. He saw Teddy, he saw him walking to his godfather, Harry. His tears came down harder.
Tonks sat down each day for two hours and just watched as Teddy grew up. She saw him say his first word, "rry,"
She saw the party they threw him when he was five years old. She started crying again, she knew that they must have been talking about her. They didn't understand though. They never would. She was alone in this pain and nothing would change that.
She was watching him open his presents when his hair changed from a brown color to a turquoise blue. A hint of a smile graced her lips, her stomach was feeling warm and she wanted to laugh. Why was she feeling like this? Was it happiness? No that wasn't it. Maybe something like joy. She looked away from the others who were looking at her.
"She's always crying! It's been five years!" Sirius nagged loudly at the fact that Tonks was crying once again.
"Sirius," Remus warned him.
"C'mon you'd think she'd be used to this by now," Sirius continued seeming to ignore, James frantic head shake, and Remus murderously glare.
It was Lily though. If you looked into her eyes right now you'd see a fire in the emerald eyes, Sirius seemed to notice, and shut up.
"She had him for nine months in her stomach and three in her arms! She had him for so little time! She died for a good cause but she left behind something bigger and to recover from that-," Lily yelled at him and then stopped talking.
The fire died down and all she looked like was broken now.
"There's not been one day, Sirius! One day, that I haven't cried for the little boy I never got to see grow up, the little boy I left to suffer alone. Not one." Lily told him her tears surfacing and Sirius had too look away from her. Knowing he had gotten a chance to be with Harry.
"Lil-" James cut him off with a glare as he brought the redhead to his chest, she held onto him tightly. Lily pulled away from James with a peck to his cheek and left to where Tonks was sat.
"Hey Tonks," Lily softly told her.
"Hi Lily," Tonks responded back, not even turning to look at her.
"They look happy," Lily told her as she looked down at Teddy and her son. Her baby who had been through so much, her baby who had suffered more than anybody else and she was helpless to watch as he suffered .
Tonks looked down at them, she realized Lily was the only other person who could understand what she was feeling.
"How do you do it? When does it stop hurting?" Tonks asked hugging Lily to her as she cried.
"It's been 22 years Tonks, and it still hurts me. This pain will never go away. We can just learn to move on and watch them as they grow and await the day they come back to us," Lily told her truthfully, some tears slipping out.
Tonks looked at Teddy as he smiled at Harry waving around a book and broom in both his hands a huge smile on his face and his hair still a turquoise color.
Teddy was going to Hogwarts, they were all looking down with Tonks, they were hearing and watching as Teddy and Harry talked.
"Harry, do you think my parent's would care where I got sorted into?" Teddy asked shyly at him, his leg going through the ground.
"Teddy, Your mother was a Hufflepuff, your father a Gryffindor. I can assure you that where ever you end up they will be proud of you," Harry told his godson with a bright smile, and maybe a little sad as well as he thought of his old friends.
"Lily, I love your son," Tonks told her new best friend.
Lily smiled at how much her baby had grown up, how much had he had changed and into the man he was today.
They were watching as Teddy was getting sorted. They all watched with their breaths held in. Tonks was close to tears and then the hat shouted.
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
Tonks burst into tears, she was smiling and undoubtedly joy filled her heart. She watched with a teary smile as he sat at her old house. She watched and for the first time in years she laughed and joked with Remus, Sirius, James, and Lily.
She was filled with a warmth in her stomach that couldn't be described as anything but joy, yes she was sad, and she would always be.
Yet watching as Teddy smiled with his new friends, she knew she would be fine, right now this joy she was feeling would stay with her for a long time.
She missed her baby. She needed him to know that, and one day she would tell him. she couldn't wait until she saw her baby again, to hug him for being in her house. Hug him for all the times she didn't before.
Like Lily, she would wait.
A/N It was only 1,256 words. It was simple but I needed something unique. I got some tears in my eyes as I wrote this...hopefully I got what Joy meant. Dear god I went to like 10 different websites to see what everyone thought of it. :o So hopefully I kinda got it down! :) Plus it was mostly Tonks Centric who was a Hufflepuff! :D
I hope you enjoy! :)
