Not all Monsters have Claws
I'm a monster.
I might not have claws, or vicious fangs, but I'm still monster.
Killing poeple for a living, killing off innocent souls, is what makes me more of a monster than the ones who scare children.
Alexa Moore, age 14, is tonight's target.
A simple, quick, slit of the throat and I'll be out of this suffocating closet.
Slowly, the sun disappears.
I turn the doorknob, wincing as the creak of the bright yellow closet door disturbs the peaceful silence.
The room is filled with old clothing and sports equipment. It's pitch black, but when the sun was visible, the walls were painted a light shade of baby pink.
I'm not focused on the minor details which I observed earlier, but on the hidden figure beneath the light blue covers.
Taking a deep breath, I raise my hand. This will never get any easier, even with time.
She's probably an athlete who has her whole life ahead of her, who has teammates who rely on her and will mourn for her when news reaches them of her death.
I bring down my arm anyways a mission is a mission, but with a swoosh of the air, my knife gets blocked.
"What the-" I look up and my brown eyes connect with the greenest eyes I have ever seen. Even in the dark, her blond hair is shining and visible. It makes my dark brown hair seem pitch black.
What catches my attention though, are her black wings.
The knife stays in her hand as I stumble back. "W-who? What?" I struggle to form a sentence.
"Relax Redrum," she says my name in a soft voice, like a melody. I feel my heart rate speed up. "You are safe with me. My name is Legna, and before you ask, I was made from pure goodness, but appeared from under the bed."
"H-how do you know my name?" I stutter.
"Alexa Moore is my child. I'm her guardian angel, and you, Redrum, was sent to kill her." Her green eyes pierce through mine and into my soul. "You're not a monster." She whispers.
My eyes narrow. "You know nothing of me! Move out of my way, I have a job to do!"
I move to take the knife, but she points it at me.
"I can see it in your soul, all the darkness. You are not a monster, and neither am I." She comes closer to me. "My creation did not come from only good, but a bit of darkness as well."
She strokes her black wings gently.
"You're not a monster," I whisper, grabbing her hand. "I am."
I move to take the knife again, but before I can, her lips land on mine.
Getting lost in the taste of her and the softness of her lips, I kiss her back.
It doesn't take long before I come back to my senses. She's an angel that came here to stop me. I can't tie her to someone like me.
Pushing her away, I steal back the knife in her moment of shock.
In a flash, my mission is completed.
Goodbye Alexa.
Glancing back, Legna is glaring at me.
"You ruined my chance!" She shrieks, her voice no longer a melody. "I was meant to protect her, to prove my black wings did not make me a monster!"
She takes a threatening step towards me.
"But I was wrong," she whispers, trailing a silver finger nail down my face. I shiver. "You are a monster," she takes the knife from my hand. "And so am I."
I fall to the floor with a thump!
