For this one, I was thinking of Hide and Kaneki. I don't own Tokyo Ghoul. The challenge was to come up with a work that had the phrase "You deserve better" somewhere in it.

You follow a self-hating child

To the ends of the world.

You are his bright sun,

His best and only friend.

You smile and make jokes,

Trying your best to make him smile,

Make him happy,

But all he does is push you away.

You aren't the same anymore, he claims.

But you were never the same to begin with.

You with your bright personality and your music.

Him with his submissive wallflower personality and his books.

But still you try.

You chase after him.

And as he falls, you are the only one by his side.

Those 'friends' he made from his new situation,

The 'friends' he was forced to make,

Are they really friends when they break him down just as the world has always done?

No.

No, only you, you who has always told him different, only you are his friend.

You have always shouted against the wind,

Telling him he has a purpose,

He is loved,

He is amazing.

You wipe the frown imbedded in his lips right off.

And replace it with a smile.

Even to such a boy who does not understand happiness or love,

You can make him feel that which he was never given.

You're practically perfect,

So why waste away in his mouth?

You deserve better.

So don't waste away, you wilting Sunflower.

After all, whatever could the moon do without the sun?
