The River - Sally/Wilbur [Fluff]
CW: None (I believe)
The sun was high in the sky, it was a great time to go out and explore.
Wilbur stared at the door of his house, determined. He was going to find that river today. He knew there was a river in the forest by his house, and had heard the running water whenever he was in the woods. Techno peeked his head up from the book he was reading, a questioning look on his face. His glasses were down on his nose, making him look like a librarian. Wilbur laughed at that mental image. Not out loud of course. "Where are you going Will?" Techno asked his brother, monotone as ever.
Wilbur scratched the back of his neck, answering hesitantly. "Uh, I'm going out into the woods to find that river I always hear."
Hearing this, Wilbur's brother rolled his eyes. "You always look for it, and never found it before. What makes you think you will this time."
The brunette in question huffed, annoyed at Techno's remark. "I just know Techno. Today's the day I'm going to find it." He replied, a slight edge in his voice.
Techno's eyes narrowed, and he then responded, "Fine, but don't come crying to me when you don't find it. And don't get hurt." Quite snarky in Wilbur's opinion, or maybe that's just how Techno sounds all the time. Wilbur's piglin brother then went back to reading his book.
"Ok then, mum." Wilbur teased. Techno didn't even look up as he answered.
"I am not your mom, I'm your brother. And, anyway, Kristin's with Phil currently. Now go, you're interrupting my reading time." What a smartass response. Well, it was Techno, so that was to be expected.
"Ok, see you!" Wilbur called as he walked out the door, waving. Techno still didn't look up. He thought he heard Techno mumble something like 'Yeah, whatever.' Shaking his head, Wilbur headed off towards the forest edge.
Wilbur walked throughout the woods, admiring the scenery around him. The trees had huge trunks, vines rapping around the bottom and creeping their way up. Moss grew in patches, dotted around the bottoms of some of the trees. Tall grass, bushes, mushrooms, and pretty flowers littered the forest floor.
Soon enough, he could hear rushing water. Faint at first, but as he followed the direction it came from, it grew louder. There was a huge bush blocking Wilbur's way. He pushed, parting it to reveal a river. It was like something straight out of a fairytale.
Wilbur then saw someone sitting by the river. He gasped softly.
A beautiful girl sat at the edge of the river, dipping her legs in the crystal clear water. She looked about Wilbur's age, with hot pink hair that fell down her back in a graceful way. "Wow" He breathed, almost in a trance.
Wilbur stood there for a good second, pondering over whether or not he should go talk to her. Eventually, he decided to just suck it up and go sit next to her.
He slowly approached, dropping down in the soft grass beside her. This seemed to startle her. "Oh lord! You scared me." She exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air and whipping her head towards him.
'Her voice is beautiful' Wilbur thought. He then remembered that he needed to reply. "Oh, sorry." He responded sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck. That was a habit of his, whenever he was in an awkward situation, he would always scratch the back of his neck. Tommy, Wilbur and Techno's little brother, had started to pick up on this, and had been doing it too, though he wasn't in as many awkward situations as Wilbur, so he didn't do it as often.
"It's fine." The girl answered, waving a hand dismissively.
He sat there awkwardly, knowing that he should say something, but not knowing exactly what. Luckily for him, she said something first. "So, what are you doing out here?" The pink haired girl asked curiously.
"I was exploring the forest; trying to find this very river infact."
The girl was intrigued by his answer, so, tilting her head, she questioned him further. "Why would you be looking for this river in particular?"
"Well, I've been hearing for a while now, so I decided to look for it. I could never find it before, and it was really bugging me. My brother teased me about the fact that, 'I can't even find a river' too. Wanted to prove him wrong." Wilbur explained, chuckling towards the end of it.
She laughed softly at this. 'Even her laugh is pretty.' Wilbur thought, then blushed. 'What am I thinking? I only just met her, I can't be in love. It's probably just a little silly like crush, anyway.'
He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. The dark pink haired girl noticed this change of mood in him. "You good?"
The brunette nodded, smiling slightly. "I'm fine, just thinking."
"Ah, ok." She said, smiling as well.
She turned her head back towards the water, watching the rapid stream as it ran. Wilbur copied her, turning his gaze toward the flowing water.
They sat like that for a little while, silence filling the air. The silence was a comfortable one, and neither dared to break it, feeling as though if they did, they'd be breaking some sacred thing. It was sort of enchanting, watching the river as it flowed down it's path.
The pinkette rested her head on Wilbur's shoulder, a sign of trust and comfort. Heat rose to his cheeks, but he let her stay there. In all honesty, he kind of liked the position they were in, wishing they could stay like that forever.
"What's your name?" She whispered softly, so quiet that Wilbur almost didn't hear her.
"Wilbur." He answered in the same soft voice as her.
"Sally. That's my name." The pink haired one replied, keeping her voice the same.
He finally had something to call her. He could finally stop calling her 'pink haired girl'.
"That's a lovely name." Wilbur whispered, happy to finally be able to compliment her.
Sally's smile grew wider. Still resting her head on Wilbur's shoulder and staring out at the river, she thanked him. "Thank you, no one's ever said that before." She admitted.
The brunette frowned a bit. "Then someone's at least told you how beautiful you are, right?" He asked, looking over at the other with his voice raising a little.
Sally moved her head back, with her eyes widened a bit and a small blush on her cheeks. "N-no? What do you mean?"
"You're beautiful! How has no one ever told you this before!?" Wilbur exclaimed as he stood up, throwing his hands in the air in a similar fashion to how Sally did earlier that day.
The blush on Sally's face grew, making it more evident. "Really? You think so?"
The boy's head bobbed furiously. "Of course! You are!"
A large smile was on Sally's face again, this time accompanied by a blush.
It seemed no more was needed to be said, they just gazed into each other's eyes. One pair, belonging to Sally, was ocean blue, fitting right in on her darker skin. The other was a soft pair of brown, almost hazel pair.
The moment was ruined by a call sounding throughout the forest. "WILBUR! IT'S DINNER TIME! GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE!"
The brunette in question whipped his head around, looking in the direction the call came from. "Wha- what was that?" Sally asked, confused.
Wilbur turned back to the pinkette, scratching the back of his neck. "That would be my dad, who's probably pretty mad right now. Ha. I didn't even realize it was getting dark." He answered.
Sally nodded understanding, but still dipped her head down sadly. "I get it, you have to go back."
"Yeah..." He responded ruefully, then had a brilliant idea. "Oh! You wanna meet up here tomorrow? Same time?"
The girl's head shot back up, blue eyes shining in a light that didn't exist. "Really?"
"Yeah! So you do want to?"
"YES!- I mean, yes, definitely. That would be nice." She monotoned that last part, saluting to him. Sally managed to hold a straight face, but as soon as Wilbur burst out in a fit of laugher, she did too, both clutching their chests.
"WILBUR! COME! NOW!" Wilbur's dad, Philza, yelled again.
Wilbur pulled himself together finally, then called back over his shoulder, "COMING DAD!"
Sally had also managed to pull herself together, straightening her posture and putting out her hand. "I'll see you tomorrow, same time, correct?"
The brunette boy shook her hand, answering, "Yup. I'll see you tomorrow, same time."
They had a deal, and as Wilbur ran back through the woods, he couldn't help thinking about their next meeting.
