When You Think of Me
((This should've been my first poem but I suppose I kinda just forgot to edit the first copy and make it sound better. Oh well, you can still read it))
When you think of me, so much comes to mind.
I'm weird for sure! I think I'm funny and kind
My home is hot! It's in the south...
Florida, something I won't do without.
Raised by my mom and dad
They help me when things get tough
Even when their lives are hard enough.
See, race tries to divide us all...
When we're one species, one union, one person.
Human.
And people don't like that we have to be the same
But put us down for being different!
Your skin is black you should go back
You speak Spanish, you need to be banished!
Even whites can be subject to a fight.
Just... Stop. Please can you?
He's the same as you... and you... and you.
For once let's just get along...
We're together on this Earth, forever and beyond.
So really think of someone who fights for her right
Someone who wants to never give up
And someone who isn't a wimp or afraid
To wear the colors on my skin
And accept others as well
Whether your Asian or Caccausian.
Black or Hispanic.
You are you
And no one can change that.
