Above Water
I will state this loud and clear for you...
I am hopeless.
A hopeless romantic
A hopeless young fool
A hopeless child.
Someone who can't get their head above water
One who
Can't get up because she's tripped over herself
Falling head over heels
And expects others to pick her up.
A fool.
She has become someone who can't stand herself
Who can't keep her cool
Who has no desire left
No hope to speak of
And no fluttering fantasies to tell.
You wonder, what has she done to stay alive
To swim in the sea of bloodthirsty sharks
And keep herself cool in the boiling water.
Everyday she sprays cool mist on her skin
The holy mist that repents the wrath
That saves her from her brokenness
The repellent to keep away the shark bites...
Or at least makes them into nibbles.
Nibbles she can handle.
A nibble she takes on sweet fruit
That isn't forbidden.
No! She may indulge in the pleasure.
Because it is the sweetest of sweet
The finest of fine.
Fruit that can be used to make the best of wines.
And she will be fine
So long as the sharks only nibble her
And so long as she has the chance to float above water.
