Things after that went downhill quickly...

Luigi woke up in the castle hospital feeling heavy and sore. When he opened his eyes, the blinding light was enough to give him a full blown migraine attack. Everything was extremely blurry, but he could make out the figures of his brother and the princess sitting on opposite sides of his bed. He was slowly able to open his eyes as, though his hearing was out a little bit, he heard Mario calling for the doctors. Immediately, a single question loomed over his mind:

'Where's Ruby and Alissa!?'

Luigi's eyes snapped open. He shot up into a sitting position as he started to hyperventilate. Alissa needed him and he knew why Ruby took him over. He knew why Ruby was doing all this and he felt that they would need to stay close in order for her and her family to finally find peace. He had to find them and he had to do it now.

Luigi tried to get up, but Mario and Peach, who were now worried out of their minds, tried to push him back into a laying position. He struggled against their grip as they pinned him back down onto the bed. A toad doctor rushed over with a syringe that was filled with a reddish substance.

Immediately, Luigi freaked out and began to struggle even harder in their grip until he kicked the Doctor across the room, punched Mario in the jaw, and got out of his friends' grips. The second he was loose, he made a mad dash down the hallway. Mario quickly got up and gave chase while Peach tended to the doctor. Luigi was pretty far ahead, but Mario still had a pretty good visual on him. Luigi quickly made a sharp right turn, so Mario did the same when he got to the corner. When he turned, however, Luigi had disappeared.

'What the-...' Mario thought to himself

How could Luigi just vanish into thin air!? People can't do that!! Just as he was going to turn back, Mario heard an odd sound echoing loudly in the hallways of the medical wing of the castle. It sounded horrible. It was like an odd amalgamation of voices and noises strung together in a weird, tangled up mess. Mario quickly decided to follow it, hoping that it would give him a clue as to where Luigi went.

Listening closer, he could make out the noises. It sounded like the tune of an old show that Luigi used to watch when they were around five or six, Max and Ruby. The big thing that made it so disturbing was the fact that it was playing in reverse. It made the lyrics, and the song in general, barely distinguishable. It made the song sound like it came from even the darkest nightmares of Bowser, and that was really saying a lot.

Following the sound for about five minutes, Mario soon found an empty room that had only three things: a TV, a chair, and...

"Luigi!" Mario exclaimed in relief

Luigi didn't turn around. His eyes seemed to be glued to the TV, which is where the disturbing, reversed music was coming from. Mario cringed at the music as he stepped into the room and began to approach Luigi. As he got closer, the music got oddly louder in his ears. Mario was quickly at Luigi's side, but not before seeing the terrifying image on the screen in front of them.

It appeared to be a still frame of the two main characters, Max and his big sister, Ruby, standing next to each other in complete darkness. What made it so horrible, however, was their lack of faces. The two rabbits had lost their noses and mouths, and their eyes had been replaced with big, hollow holes. The colors of the picture looked like they had gone through a red filter far too many times and the disturbing music along with a faint sound of static blared through the speakers. It had to be the most terrifying thing that Mario had seen in his life, so it was even more surprising that Luigi didn't even flinch at this.

Looking more closely at his brother, Mario suddenly noticed that Luigi wasn't moving at all. His head was, now, tilted downward slightly, his hat covering his eyes. The two rabbits on the screen seemed to be staring him down, as though he'd done something wrong. Mario quickly stepped in front of his brother, blocking his view of the TV, and grabbed his shoulders.

"Luigi?" Mario called quietly

No response.

"Luigi, answer me, please..." Mario called again, gently shaking his brother's shoulders

Still no response.

"Fratello! Why won't you-!"

"Why didn't you help her?" A young, female voice from behind cut him off

Mario froze in pure terror.

"Wh...What...?" Mario whispered

"Why didn't you help her!?" A younger sounding boy yelled at him

Mario flinched at that. Where were these voices coming from?

"You could have helped her..." A sad sounding, grown up man trailed off

"...Then none of what happened today would have needed to happen" An angry sounding, adult woman finished

Mario slowly began to turn around, and he instantly felt his heart in his throat.

On the screen were now, not two, but four visible rabbits. Two of them were small, those two being Max and Ruby, While the other two, who were clearly the children's parents, were a little bit taller. They were all staring at the Mario Bros. Ruby and her mother had angry expressions, the father's was sad, and Max looked almost...scared. They all were featureless other than those gaping eyes. The second he turned around, the music, the static, it all stopped, leaving only silence.

Mario noticed that Max and Ruby were grabbing a holding on to something. Looking closer, he could make out the faint silhouette of a little bunny, about half the height of Max, wearing a long dress and looking at them with a gleeful smile on her face. Her eyes were closed and... Now that he looked at them, the mother and that silhouette shared an odd commonality. There were these odd speckles around their left eyes. Mario frowned and looked back at the other four. Their eyes were wide again and, for a brief second, he saw an odd, slash-like smiles across their faces before the screen went to static. After a few seconds of this, the TV cuts to a blank white screen with a simple episode selection list: Max and Ruby 0001, Max and Ruby 0002, Max and Ruby 0003, RIP Mommy and Daddy, and Goodbye little sister, which sent a deep chill down Mario's spine.

"M-Mario?" A female voice called

Mario spun around only to find Peach in the room...and the door closed on her.

"Wh-What's going on?" She asked with a shaky voice

Mario went to Peach's side, took her hand, and led her slowly towards where Luigi was sitting. At this point, for the first time since his brother found him, Luigi started to move. He was holding a remote control. He used said remote to go to the bottom of the episode list, Goodbye little sister, before selecting it.

The screen went black for about ten seconds before showing, in a faded white frame, a human family with white rabbit ears as well as the same attire worn by Max, Ruby, and their parents would wear. The children and their father all had black hair and brown eyes, save for Ruby who had blue eyes, while the mother, who was wearing a hospital gown, had snowy white hair and a single blue eye, said eye being her right eye. The mother had a red, rough-looking film over her left eye as well as a bunch of black bumps on the left side of her face, mostly surrounding her eye. The eye didn't blink.

The mother was holding a baby with pale skin and wisps of white hair that were barely concealing her ears. The baby was asleep in its mother's arms. The mother turned to the children and spoke in a calm, almost exhausted-sounding voice.

"Kids, I'd like you to meet your new baby sister, Alissa" She said

The kids looked at their new little sister with love in their eyes as their mother passed her to Ruby, letting her hold the infant. The scene fades to white and cuts to a time when the little sister looks to be about three or four years old. Like her mother, little Alissa had signs of those odd black bumps forming of her face. They were there, but they weren't very noticeable. The scene was very lighthearted, like the last one. The three siblings were playing tag in the garden, and their parents were watching them play. However, something was very off. The sound in this scene was playing in reverse, and the parents' faces had sad expressions on them. The shot panned to the mother and father. The father sighed as the mother shed a tear.

"It's such a shame that it had to be her..." The father said quietly

"...She was so young" The mother finished with tears streaming down her cheeks

Mario and Peach were beyond confused at this point, they looked at each other before going back to the screen.

The screen fades to black before the scream of a very young girl is heard. Much like the frames of a comic, it showed the other four family members snapping awake in their beds. It cuts to the four of them running downstairs to find two people, one male and one clearly female, carrying a sack that had a small pair of hands trying to find a way out.

"ALISSA!" Ruby screamed

The father's eyes suddenly became large, like the gaping holes, and began to glow green. He picked up a metal poker for the fireplace and charged at the intruders. The female charged at the father. The father thrust his weapon at her, but she quickly grabbed it and pushed it into his neck, killing him in seconds as blood began to spill from his throat.

The mother became furious, her own eyes becoming large as one glowed yellow and the other glowed red. She charged at them, but the male intruder grabbed a fire ax off of the wall and swung it at the mother, cutting off her head.

Ruby screamed as Max's eyes became large, glowing a blood red color. He screamed "GIMME BACK MY SISTER!!!" as he ran towards the intruders. The female took out some kind of metal rope before forcing it around Max's neck and tightening it ti cut off his breathing. Max struggled for a second before a snap was heard and the intruder dropped Max, letting him lay there, his neck in an unnatural position.

And finally on the list was Ruby. She was backed into a corner. The male intruder grabbed the ax and slowly began to approach Ruby. She let out a loud, high-pitched, normal-sounding scream before the intruder charged at her, swinging the ax into her chest and leaving it there. The intruders took the bag holding little Alissa and jumped out the window. The shot cuts to Ruby, slowly zooming in on her. Her head was lowered as her hair obscured her eyes. She spoke weakly as the camera came closer to her.

"One day... Gadd... One day, we will find you... We will avenge what happened this day... and when that day comes..."

The camera has a full frame of the face. Ruby starts to glitch out slightly before becoming the rabbit from the cartoon. Her eyes were the large, gaping holes from earlier, and they were glowing a bright blue.

"...you will regret taking my little sister"

The screen fades to black for about five seconds before that creepy picture of the rabbits came back, but with a few differences. They were all human, the surroundings looked more realistic, the adults were there, the silhouette of the youngest was at the bottom in the center, the other four had their wounds clearly visible, and there was bright blue text at the top of the picture that said "Help us save our sister".

The screen suddenly started to flicker. Mario and peach were already terrified at this point, but this gave them confirmation that this actually happened. As the screen flickered, the silhouette began to change. It got taller and more defined, as though the little girl was growing up. Her hair became very long, her dress became tight and stopped at the thighs. She soon stopped growing and fell to her knees, bringing her hands to her face. The background is consumed by shadow, concealing the silhouette, before a young woman in a tight hospital gown with long, white hair appeared on screen, on her knees and crying into her hands. Through her open fingers, Mario and peach could make out that rough, red film in her left eye that kept it from closing. In other areas of the left side of her face, they could see those odd, black bumps in her skin. That girl was the same girl that was stuck in the glass cube in Professor Gadd's presentation that day.

When Mario and Peach saw this, the girl, Alissa, raised her head. She only had that red eye on her face for a split second before the screen once again flickered, making it disappear and leaving her faceless. She stared at the camera as a white box surrounded her. She pounded her fists on the glass that trapped her, the camera cut her her face, and her eyes, two gaping holes, as well as a pitch black, slash-like mouth appeared on her face as she let out a very loud and gut-twisting screech. Mario and Peach covered their ears at the noise as to try and not go deaf. The screaming remained consistent for about a minute before the screen glitched to black...

...and stayed that way.
