Chapter 16
"Who the hell is that?" Nia groaned as she threw the blanket off, rose off the couch and told Alexa to pause the audiobook she'd been engrossed in since that afternoon. It was her lazy day. Her phone was on 'do not disturb' and everyone that knew her knew she was to not be bothered until nine tomorrow.
She stomped out the living, through the foyer, and swung open the door after peeking through the peephole. "What do you want?"
"I called." DeMarcus spat out as she brushed past her entering the penthouse her stepdad paid for. Even though she had a job she rarely paid a bill. She didn't know if that was her mother's doing or if Victor really wanted to continue spoiling her either way she wasn't going to dwell on it.
"And you thought that meant you should pop up at my house." She shut the door, knowing if she continued to hold it open the AI voice would continue saying 'front door open'. DeMarcus wasn't a regular at her residence. He rented a place downtown where they spent their time. She made one slip up and now this happened. "I didn't say you could come in but okay."
He went straight to the coffee table and grabbed her phone, "I need your brother...stepbrother's number. That fucking car was too fast."
"Why is the speed of my brother's car a problem?" She snatched her phone from him. 'And don't touch my property without asking."
"Nia. I don't have time for the bullshit." He reached for her phone but she backed up with it.
"I don't know what's going on..." She started, taking in his aggravated agitated state. "But I doubt it's any of my business. Anyways, should you be celebrating or something? Didn't you make partner. This should be the best day of your life." She smiled. "You finally got what you've been working for."
He rolled his shoulders and let out an audible breath flaring his nostrils. "It would be if your brother wasn't fucking my wife."
Nia stopped in her tracks. Her need for a refill of mango juice disappeared. "Come again."
"I'm not." He fumed. "Just give me his number. Better yet, what's his address? I need to know where they went."
"You're serious."
"Yes. Very."
Nia couldn't fight it. Her laughter erupted around them. "Wow! That's unfortunate but I'm not giving you Apollo's number or address. But you should probably give me your wife's number because when they come back from...where did he say he was going." She paused to think. "Cancun for tacos. And by the time they get back I might finally live out my dream of being a rich auntie."
"You think I'm fucking playing." He stalked towards her until there wasn't any more space between them and leered at her with white-hot disdain. "I'm not fucking playing. But you don't take anything serious do you, Nia. You're thirty-three and still living like a damn twenty-year old living off your parents with no prospects of a real relationship. Did you think I would leave my wife for you?" He chuckled, twirling one of her curls around his finger. "You were just something to come in while I secure our future. A play thing that I'm done with now."
She pushed him away from her. "You don't deserve her."
"Your opinion is irrelevant." He shrugged nonchalantly. "She's mine and she's not going anywhere. I'll do whatever it takes to ensure that."
"You are a real dumbass." Nia informed walking back to the door. "The appeal of being with you was because I knew you weren't leaving your wife. You think I actually wanted to be with you. It was just sex. And I don't do drama with my dick so..." She opened the front door. "You can go now."
He walked past her but stopped at the threshold. "Tell you brother we need to talk."
"I'm..." She gestured for him to move back and once he was back in the hallway she continued. "...not but have a good night."
She slammed the door and locked it back. "That's it. I'm never fucking a married man again." She fell back on her couch and resumed her audiobook.
