The emptiness that Scott viewed when his eyes were shut left him to his own imagination. Scott didn't know if Hannah would be offended if he asked her to take away his powers or if she'd be happy too. Each scenario made his brain feel as if it would explode.

If she screamed at him -- which he could tell just by speaking to her once she wouldn't do -- it would be humiliating and he'd be left in a bigger mess than he was in. If she did then he could go back to his life, like he never existed to her. He was too excited about the chance of going back to his normal way of living and being a teenage boy. The mutant girl could do whatever she pleased after helping him and go back to living her own weird life whatever it was.

Hannah on the other hand was ecstatic to keep Scott in the world of mutants in Xavier's school. The day was brighter to her, a wide smile on her face. There was an abundance of possibilities, half of them being great. The other half she decided she wouldn't worry about unless it came up.

"What are you thinking about, Hannah?" Jean asked her as Hannah got distracted from their studying on the grass. Last nights events didn't affect Hannah or her view of Jean, to Hannah it was another day of enjoying the fresh air and studying. It wasn't under the professors favorite tree due to Scott, but Hannah would accept that. Any other tree was fine as she could see everyone go around, she liked to observe the other students with a gleeful eye.

"Well you can easily answer me that, Jeanie bear." She mused with a poke, and went back to her book.

"I know, but I don't want to barge into your head when you can just tell me yourself. You're distracted. But that's not unusual is it?"

"Definitely not. I was thinking about the new boy." Jean sighed as Hannah just looked at her friend with confusion.

" Hannah. Please don't." She begged the optimistic mutant. Hannah just giggled at her and kept at her book, as if not wanting to engage in eye contact with the telepathic girl and her intense stare. "I read his mind, he could be just like the others. You were too good for all of them. And they used you."

"They were just confused. Really we should just feel bad for them. And hope for the best for anyone else who meets me."

"And then expect the worst, please, Hannah. Be careful around him." Hannah's smile turned into a small scowl, something that was not often on the girl's face.

"I can take care of myself, Jean." Seriousness on Hannah was not familiar with Jean Grey, there was always some sort of hint of happiness on her face.

"I know, I just worry about you. Some people really hate where they are." Jean felt herself losing strength, sitting in such a short proximity to Hannah, she laid her hand away from her and on the grass. She felt herself finally be able to breathe properly and aware of her surroundings.

"Like Scott." Hannah paused seeing the boy from far away with bandages still wrapped around his eyes and Hank McCoy standing next to him. She took a deep breath and remembered that someone always needed someone else to believe in them. And she chose to do this with Scott. Jean didn't need to ask what she was thinking or if she changed her mind about the new mutant to know she was hooked. Jean just hoped that this time it wouldn't end in heartbreak.

"The lenses are, uh, made of some ruby quartz I had lying around," Scott listened as Hank told him about the new contraption he made for him. He didn't have much choice but to sit and listen, but felt the waves of anxiety crash inside about whether everything would be alright. He held the pair of shades in his hands and listened closer to him. "They should be able to reflect your optic beams and keep them contained within their own vector fields." Hank paused and Scott stood still in his spot, as if afraid to move. "Try them on." Hank instructs with a reassuring smile the boy couldn't even see.

Scott fumbled with the shades and cautiously takes off the bandage wrapped around his head. His eyes wedged shut, the glasses approach his face until they are on. Still, his eyes are shut where his forehead scrunched up.

"Okay go ahead." As Scott was about to open his eyes he hears Hank's sudden fear. "Wait. wait, sorry no. Okay." He feels himself being turned and propped up for his eyes to open.

"Now?"

"Yeah, you're good."

"Alright." In a moment his eyes opened, the lines in his forehead disappeared and he could see once again through the red tint of the glasses. He looked up at the bright sky and the trees that shook slightly in the wind. "Whoa, I can see. Thank you, professor thank you. You're a genius." He says to Hank.

"No, I'm not a professor." Hank replies bashfully.

Hannah looked up from her book and her eyes met the dark red shades that were on the new boy. Her heart fluttered just by seeing him for a moment and she quickly looked back to her book. Jean kept to her studying, not noticing the second glance that Hannah took at him, or the third.

"Who's that?" Scott wondered at the girl who looked at him multiple times. He thought that maybe kids would be shocked at his weird red glasses he'd have to wear.

"I believe you two met. That's Hannah Durant. She helped you to your room. And she's the one the professor told to show you around."

"Wait, that's her?" He asks. Her eyes were bright and happy he could tell all the way from where he stood, he wanted to get closer and see the details on her face more clearly, as clear as he could see them in his situation.

Hannah focused back on her book instead of Scott so she could actually pass her classes when she saw in the corner of her eyes Jean packing. "Are you leaving?" She asked her friend.

"Yeah, I think I'd study better inside. Don't worry, we're good, I just want you to be safe, last time really worried everyone."

"I know, Jeanie."

"Hey." The two hear as they look up from the ground and see Scott come towards them slowly as if approaching feral creatures from the wild.

"You can see." Jean states with a hint of caution in her tone. Hannah looked at her disapprovingly and then whipped her head back at the boy who stood before them.

"Yeah it's not as bad as I thought-" He heard the voices of others criticizing and insulting, while Hannah didn't let it bother her.

"Why don't you join us? Well me, Jean was gonna go inside."

"They're still scared of me." He says to the girls and then faced the group that walked towards the school, "Hey, I have special glasses now!"

"They're not scared of you, they're scared of me." Jean corrects the boy.

"Which is stupid." Hannah adds on as she stares at the group of kids with a sad look in her eye.

"You're not the only one who can't control their powers."

"Yeah and it doesn't matter that's why we're here. To learn through all the bad and the good."

"Wait so, last night when the house shook, that was you?" Scott asks Jean.

"Sorry to break it to you, but you're not the biggest freak in this school."

"Well that's a first." Jean chuckles and grabs her bag from the floor, she could practically feel the happiness radiating from Hannah. She knew she would be talking about this later and would talk about it now in her head.

She'd let Hannah have this for now and just hope that Scott wouldn't be using her like the others and leave her fate up to Hannah. It was her life and she needed to accept that for her friend.

"So, wanna take my offer?" Hannah asks Scott as Jean waved to the two and went off back into the school.

"Yeah totally." He replied and sat on the grass in front of her.
