VI. Aries Forgot the Anniversary!
Aries
The horse trotted along the dirt rode as I struggled to stay a top. The grey started to pick up speed before turning onto a brick driveway. The girl from earlier smiled and waved as her speckled brown and white horse walked over.
"Hey Kayla! I was wondering if you were ever going to show up," she yelled to me, as I entered her huge property.
"Hey. Sorry... I was uh waiting for some friends."
Her horse reached mine and she said, "So your friends with the popular kids now." I tilted my head and she continued. "I may have seen you talking with them at lunch. Heated argument with the others was quiet a show."
I scratched the back of my neck. "Yeah... about that."
She cut me off with a wave. "As long as you and the others didn't get hurt, its fine. Fights happen." She noticed my long pause before pulling something out. "I was going to wait until later but it looks like you need some cheering up." She takes my hand before placing a handmade necklace inside. The pendent was made from wood and was carved in the shape of horseshoe. The string dyed a golden yellow with a few small beads placed here and there. "Happy 2nd year anniversary, babe," she said as she kissed my cheek.
I blinked at her, as surprise and confusion quickly ran across my face. I pulled back and nearly fell of the horse. "Wha... what?"
She laughed nervous. A hint of disappoint in her voice. "Don't tell me you forgot?"
"What.. no.. I just um-" she watched me closely, waiting. I narrowed my eyes before letting out a frustrated sigh. "I'm not Kayla... Your version of Kayla is gone." I held the necklace out to her and she stared at me instead. "Kayla died yesterday and I was somehow fused into her and while I look and sound like her, but I'm merely Aries. You know the Zodiac sign."
She let out a confused laughed before studying me over. She led the horse around before stopping on the other side of me. "As much as I wish it wasn't true. I believe you." She glanced away with a sadden expression.
"You... believe me? Just like that?" I looked at her slightly shocked, my eyebrows furrowed together.
She smiled a sad smile. "Not once today have I heard you say my name. You usual steal something of mine to have an excuse to come to my house. You didn't come to me today asking for a hair tie for gym, I swear you are keeping them hidden in your room." A few tears slid down her cheeks and she wiped them away. "She didn't suffer right, when she passed... away?"
I shook my head. I slowly remove my bag and take the present from the bag. The name signed with Sadie on the paper. "You must be Sadie. I think this is for you."
I handed her the necklace but she shook her head. "Place it in the box on her nightstand. You'll understand later." She lifted the small present and wiped her eyes once more. "Thank you." Sadie opened the present slowly, savoring it with a small smile. She removed the bracelet and took time to look at each charm.
"What did she give you?" I asked.
"A custom made charm bracelet. All of our adventures wrapped into a small package," she slipped it on before smirking.
"What?"
She looked at me and said, "Also real Kayla would never ride her saddle backwards... not unless this was her way of celebrating. Here. Let me help you fix this." She hoped off with ease.
I could never.
I looked to the ground and frowned. "I... can't get down."
"Sure you can," she reached out and patted one side of the horse. "Swing your leg over. Yep! Now just hop down." My stomach tightened in fear and she smirked. "Are you an Aries or not?"
I scoffed. "Of course I'm an Aries. I'm THE Aries! Plus y'all humans got me all wrong. Why would y'all put me with Capricorn. He's so frustrating to deal with! And why would you compare me to an ice cream flavor?"
"Why are you reading Instagram- Never mind. Just slide down here, The Aries."
I slowly inched my way down before practically falling off. Sadie caught me, lessening the fall. "Thanks." Sadie reached behind and fixed the saddle, causing me to laugh.
"What?" she laughed with confusion.
"I would have thought Sag knew how to saddle a horse."
"So there's more of you guys? Here trapped in our bodies."
I nodded. "It's a long story." She opened her mouth to reply, just as my phone buzzed. I opened it up seeing Kim's number. "What do I do? It's my friend."
Sadie pressed the green button and Sagittarius face came into view. "Aries you need to get your ram- oh hello?" I turned the view for them to see Sadie, who in response just waved.
"Is that Aries girlfriend?" Cancer yelled from the other side of the table. He waved at the camera before rushing over. "Oh my she is really cute! Hello stranger!"
"I want to see!" Scropio grabbed the phone. "Hello mortal being. Okay now I'm bored. Here Pieces you can talk to her now."
Pieces waved shyly. "Hi. Um.. I'm Pieces but these guys like to call me Pie. Sometimes Fish. I hope they haven't embarrassed you yet."
"Aren't we suppose to embarrass Aries because is our friend. At least that what the internet said," Cancer informed them from behind the screen.
I turned to Sadie who was completely flushed and no doubt was I. "How do I cancel this?!"
"You press the-"
Sagittarius grabbed the phone and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, I had to tell. They wanted to know where you were. Enough embarrassing. Leo's coming to pick you up at.. your house. We have a very important and secret meeting between the fourteen of us."
"You mean twelve," I corrected.
"No fourteen. Come or we will not tell you the very important meeting. It involves our life and theirs. And no you can not bring your new girlfriend along," She said before handing the phone to Cancer. "Now quit the call quickly dramatically."
"Secret call ended," Cancer said in a deep, masculine voice.
I put the phone away and turned to look at her sheepishly. "That was not what I expected."
"They seem... fun?"
I laughed. "Maybe for the first few thousand light years." I paused at her facial expression. Her eyes were widen in shock before she shook her head. A small, sad smile played on her lips. "I mean... like for us it's-"
"It's okay." She patted my shoulder before drawing me into a hug. I stood their unsure before awkwardly soothing her back as she cried. "I'm sorry...?"
"It's not your fault, Aries," she sniffed. "I just can't believe she's gone."
