Valerie and Hanna were still unconscious from the accident. Hanna's mom made sure to get the girls their own private room for when they got out of surgery. For right now, they were placed in separate rooms so the doctors could assess them separately.
Valerie's eyes fluttered open, she saw white lights shining down on her and could hear the steady rhythm of a monitor beeping. She felt groggy, though she remembered everything that had happened last night.
"Crap." She groaned. She suddenly remembered that she told Jason she was gonna call him back as soon as she could, and it had been a long time since he heard from her. Part of her thought she shouldn't feel guilty, she was used to him doing the same thing to her, but that's not the kind of person she was.
She tried reaching for the phone that was sitting on the bedside table next to her, but she couldn't reach it, "Need some help?" A male voice called out, she turned her head to see Wren walking in with a clipboard in his hands.
"Wren?" She murmured.
"Dr. Kingston." He corrected sarcastically.
"Right." She said.
"I just came in to let you know of your current injuries. You're arm is broken and a few of your ribs were also broken, and luckily they didn't have to remove your spleen. However, there were some complications with your surgery. The stab wound was still in the process of healing from your last incident, which was disrupted when the car hit you, your lung collapsed again but we were able to get that under control. You just need to take it easy for the time being." He explained.
Valerie giggled, "Sorry, but what's funny about that?" Wren asked, raising a brow.
"Your accent, it's funny." Valerie said, laughing a little harder.
Wren nodded his head, "The medication your on can make you a little giddy and disoriented." He told her.
"Well, Dr. Wren, I would be delighted to be released from this chamber if you please." Valerie giggled, doing her best fake British accent. Wren turned around when he heard the door open, he saw a guy who was tall, blonde, very well built and extremely worried.
"Is she okay?" He asked, looking to Valerie who was fiddling with her fingers.
"What are your relations to the patient?" Wren asked. He could tell the guy was worried, but he still had to do his job.
Valerie looked up and saw Jason talking with Wren, "Jason!" She exclaimed. Jason had a confused look on his face, for someone who just got hit by a car she seemed pretty happy.
"She's a little loopy from the medication." Wren explained and Jason nodded his head.
"Valerie, you know him, correct?" Wren asked.
"Mhm, he's my situationship." Valerie said, smiling. Now both men were confused, neither of them knew what that meant.
"Your what?" Jason asked.
"It's this thing where we both are clearly emotionally attached to each other but we aren't actually together. You know what I mean?" She explained.
"I'll give you two a moment." Wren said awkwardly as he exited the room.
Jason went and sat down next to her, running his fingers through her hair, "Don't look at me, I look like I just got hit by a car." She complained.
"Valerie, you did just get hit by a car." He reminded her.
"Oh, right." She murmured, "How'd you know that?" She asked.
"When you didn't call back I figured something was wrong so I called Spencer and she told me what happened." He told her. Valerie looked at him and giggled, "What?" He asked, sending her a small smile.
"I almost forgot how hot you are." She admitted, looking up at him through her lashes.
"Oh, yeah?" He let out a breathy laugh. Silence followed after, leaving them with a peaceful atmosphere.
"I wish you were here." She sighed.
"I am here, Val. I'm right here with you." He assured, placing his hand in hers.
"Until you're not." She said somberly. Jason looked at her sadly, the worst part of this was knowing he had to leave again. Valerie yawned, digging her head into her pillow.
"Get some sleep." He said, planting a kiss on her head.
"But then you'll be gone when I wake up." She proclaimed.
"You won't even remember I was here, Val." He stated, tracing circles on her cheek with his thumb, "I love you." He assured her.
"Then why do you keep leaving me?" She murmured, just before she drifted off. Jason sighed, he knew she was right, he couldn't keep coming back and telling her he loved her if he was just gonna leave. It wasn't fair to her. But he couldn't help it, he genuinely did love her.
When Valerie woke up again she was in a bigger room, and Hanna was planted in the bed right next to hers, "Hanna." Valerie called out.
"Hey, Val." Hanna said, smiling at her. The rest of the girls were also there, along with Ms. Marin.
"How does your arm feel?" Spencer asked, shooting her friend a sympathetic look.
"Like I just got hit by a car." She joked. The rest of the girls just looked at her awkwardly, "Too soon?" She asked.
"Do you guys remember what happened?" Spencer asked subtly. Hanna and Valerie both knew they were talking about A and not about the accident.
"Yeah." They both mumbled.
"Uh, mom, you've been here the whole time. You wanna take a break?" Hanna asked. Ms. Marin looked to the rest of the girls before looking back at her daughter.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
"Yeah." Hanna said, sending her mom a half hearted smile.
"I'll be back in a couple of hours." She said before exiting the room.
As soon as Ms. Marin left and the door was shut Hanna looked to Valerie then back to the rest of the girls, "Noel Kahn is A." She revealed.
"What?"
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah, we saw him in the woods, and he left an A message." Valerie confirmed.
"You saw him leave a message?" Spencer questioned.
"He wrote something on the back of a car window." Hanna explained.
"What car? What did he write?" Emily asked. Hanna and Valerie both looked at each other, then to Aria.
"I see you." Aria said.
"How do you know?" Spencer mumbled.
"I was in the car." Aria admitted.
"Whose car was it?" Emily questioned.
Aria stayed silent for a moment, "Ezra Fitz." She answered.
"Mr. Fitz?" Spencer asked.
"Aria?" Emily spoke.
"Hanna, Valerie?" Spencer questioned, looking over to her two injured friends for confirmation.
"It was Mr. Fitz." Valerie said.
"You and Mr. Fitz?" Emily inquired, getting up from her seat.
"You met him there?" Spencer nagged.
"The call you got at the party..." Emily realized, "That was him?"
"I couldn't tell anyone." Aria claimed, "I promised Ezra."
"Ezra?" Spencer exclaimed, "Whoa, hold it. This is something that's been going on? You and a teacher?"
"I didn't just get into his car last night." Aria justified, "Who do you think I am?"
"How long have you been seeing him?" Emily questioned.
"Since, right before school started." She mumbled.
"Oh my god! Since Labor Day!" Spencer realized.
"Okay, so you don't have a boyfriend in Iceland?" Hanna interjected.
"No, I did." Aria said. Valerie shot her a look, knowing it wasn't true.
"It's not like that." Aria said.
"So, you were seeing a teacher when Hanna fixed you up with Noel?" Valerie asked, looking at her sister with a puzzled look.
"Oh, my god. I fixed you up with Noel." Hanna recalled.
"And why did you get in his car last night?" Spencer questioned.
"Well, he uhm called me and.. oh, don't look at me like that!" Aria spoke. Spencer rolled her eyes, putting her hand up for Aria to stop talking as she turned away.
"God, my head hurts as much as my arm now." Valerie groaned.
"What exactly did you two see?" Spencer asked.
"Well, we saw Aria go into a parked car. And then we saw someone in a black hoodie write something on the back of a car window." Hanna said.
"And then when he turned around it was Noel." Valerie finished.
"No, it can't be Noel." Aria argued.
"Aria, we know what we saw." Valerie spoke.
"And A tried to kill them for it." Spencer reminded her.
"Okay, but, I mean, none of us saw who was driving the car." Aria protested. A knock at the door pulled the girls from their little conflict. Aria walked over to go answer it. Aria left the room to speak with Noel and when she came back she walked in with a gift basket.
"He lied to me about being there." Aria said, "He said he was with Sean."
After a while, Aria, Spencer and Emily left and Hanna and Valerie went back to sleep. Valerie felt herself waking up, but when she heard footsteps entering the room, she closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep. She felt a light kiss against her forehead, and when she heard the footsteps get farther away she turned her head. She blinked rapidly in confusion. She saw Lucas walking out of her hospital room.
The next morning Wren came in and adjusted her medication, it put her to sleep super quickly, and when she woke up next she had a massive headache. She turned toward Hanna who looked super distraught.
"Han, you okay?" Valerie asked.
"What?" Hanna snapped out of her trance, "Oh, yeah, I'm fine." Hanna shook her off, uttering a sigh.
Lucas then walked in with a tray full of different pudding flavors, "Vanilla, tapioca, butterscotch." He listed off.
"Mm, butterscotch." Valerie said.
"Tapioca for me, I like the little bumps." Hanna said. He gave both the girls their pudding and sat by Valerie's bedside.
"That's starting to look like the declaration of independence." Lucas joked, pointing to the cast on Valerie's arm.
"You don't need to skip school for me Lucas, I'm okay." Valerie assured, not wanting her friend to get in trouble.
"I told the office I was doing community service." He admitted.
"And they believed you?" Valerie asked.
"I have a very believable face." Lucas said, "I plan to use it in politics."
"Well, you're a good friend." Valerie said subtly, hoping he would get the hint.
"Thanks." Lucas said, a half hearted smile on his face.
Valerie sighed, "I need to ask you something. They have me on all these different type of drugs and sometimes I can't tell if things are actually happening or not, and...uhm..." She ranted.
"The medical term for what you're looking for is loopy." Lucas stated.
"Right, loopy." Valerie said, "You know I've just been having these crazy moments and dreams, and I have to ask myself. Was that person really there? Did that actually just happen?"
"Did Lucas actually kiss me when he thought I was asleep" Lucas finished for her.
"Yeah." She mumbled, "Things like that."
"I thought you might've been awake. And I thought, if she's awake and didn't scream that might be a good sign." Lucas explained.
"Well, I was kind of too surprised to do anything." Valerie said, fiddling with her fingers.
"Really? You were that surprised?" He asked, "Me wanting to kiss you was outside the realm of probability?"
"No, no, it's just...I thought we were friends." Valerie said, trying her best not to hurt his feelings. Lucas got up from the seat next to her bed and began to walk toward the door.
"Lucas you know I like you-"
"I feel like you're breaking up with me, but we were never really together." He said.
"Lucas, you're my friend and I don't wanna lose you." Valerie told him, "And you should've figured with everything that happened that maybe I wouldn't be ready for a relationship."
Lucas didn't say anything, he just continued walking, "Lucas don't leave!" Valerie exclaimed.
"No, if I stay you're gonna think I'm okay with this, and I'm not." Lucas said before walking out of the room, leaving a confused and hurt Valerie.
"Hey, it's not your fault." Hanna said, trying to comfort her friend.
"Was I leading him on?" Valerie asked.
"No, you were just being a friend to him. You're just easy to fall for." Hanna said, looking at her sympathetically.
Valerie smiled, "Thanks, Han."
After the tiredly endless days at the hospital, Aria, Spencer and Emily came to the hospital, telling Hanna and Valerie about Emily coming out to her parents and the tree that told them Ian and Alison were in a relationship being cut down.
"So, the whole tree?" Hanna asked.
"Yeah, lock, stock and birds nest." Spencer sighed.
"Why just show us the tree and then take it away?" Valerie questioned.
"Like A had a split personality." Emily said.
"That's great." Hanna muttered, "Homicidal and nuts."
"We've been thinking, maybe we're dealing with more than one person." Spencer told the girls.
"A and Ali's killer and two separate people?" Hanna questioned.
"Isn't that what we always thought?" Valerie asked.
"Okay, you are freaking out the invalid." Hanna blurted.
"No, just think about it." Aria spoke.
"No, you think about it. I mean, aren't we in enough trouble? I know I am, just look at me!" Hanna exclaimed.
Aria pulled back the sheets from Hanna's cast, "Han, who wrote this?" She asked worriedly.
"I don't know, people have been in and out all day, and so have I." Hanna shrugged.
Emily read the message, "Oh no." She said.
"What?" Valerie asked.
"Sorry about losing my temper. My bad. Love, A." Aria read aloud.
Hanna began hyperventilating, "Who put that on my leg? Who wrote that?"
"Did somebody come in here while you were asleep?"
"I don't know just get it off! Just wipe it off!" Hanna freaked out.
"Hanna, calm down, it's okay." Valerie tried to comfort her.
AUTHOR'S NOTE | So, if you're reading this it means you've read the first ten chapters! I decided to upload this book after I finish at least ten chapters. I didn't just wanna upload one chapter and leave you guys hanging with only a little bit to read. So, let me guys know what you think of this book so far in the comments! I'm sorry if it takes me a bit to upload new chapters as I'm still in school, but I promise I'll at least upload at least once a week. (It'll probably be more than once a week as I usually work on this book as soon as I get home from school.) Also, if you guys notice I use another name other than Valerie on accident, please comment on it so I can fix it. I have a habit of accidentally using other character's names from other fics I'm also working on. I'll also probably be adding to the season 1 playlist as I work on more chapters :)
