Isolation

It has been a month since the training started and you are getting ready for what could be the worst part of the training. The isolation phase. For this, you have all gone to star city, Russia. At least they are treating you well.

"Have you got everything?" Kelsey asks. You double-check everything and you hesitantly nod. He takes your bags for you.

"At least Roman should be happier here," You remark. You hate the fact that the facilities at the johnson space centre were not big enough for the whole crew. Ten minutes later you have made it to the facility that will be housing you for two weeks. Danny gathers the main cockpit crew for a photo op.

"Sorry guys but the press are asking for it," Clearly Danny wants to get this part of the training done as much as you. You all pull the best heroic poses that you can possibly do in the constraints of the location.

"Thank you," Danny ushers you all into the building.

"I will see you on the other side," you say.

"Good luck," Danny remarks as he gives you a quick salute. Two minutes later you are all gathered around the main living room table. Roman has just brought up an interesting issue.

"I'm sorry if I am offending anyone but I really don't want to deal with anyone who snores," Roman is clearly not going to change his position.

"Ok, then who knows they don't snore. Raise your hand," You decide to take charge. A lot of hands go up.

"Roman who will you get along with?" You decide to let him decide.

"Umm. Ivan," He responds. They both leave to find a room. After ten minutes of painful negotiation, there is only you and Kelsey left. You both head to the biggest room in the facility. You are trying to work out whether or not you want the left or the right bed. Luckily Kelsey decides for you by placing his stuff on the left bed. You decide to go check on the others. You hear yelling from one of the rooms. It's Cassidy and Benji. They are having the worst debate to have in this situation.

"Benji you know you should have taken less," Cassidy remarks. You barge in.

"Ok commander can you tell Benji that personal space is important," Cassidy thrusts one of Benji's shirts at him.

"Well divide the room in half and you each get a half and if you have any more problems speak to me instead of arguing," You know it's cheesy but if it stops them arguing it will work. You move on to the next room which belongs to Roman and Ivan. They are faring much better than Benji and Cassidy. They are talking about being related to someone famous. It is a feeling you know all too well.

"Well look at it this way if it wasn't for my uncle Yuri we wouldn't be here," He responds to whatever Roman had said before.

"Who is your uncle?" You ask even though you know he is most likely talking about Yuri Gagarin.

"Yuri Gagarin," He confirms your thinking.

"So Lilly what are you doing here?" Roman asks. He sounds like he is a little offended.

"I'm just making sure we don't have any issues with the sleeping arrangements," You respond. Both Ivan and Roman shake their heads.

"No issues here," They respond at almost the same time. Slowly you get around to checking on everyone. Some are going to fare well but you are not sure about others. You finally get around to talking to Jay who is lucky because he gets a room to himself.

"So Lilly how are you feeling about the living arrangements?" He flips it onto you. You haven't had time to think about it for yourself.

"Ask me that question in a couple of days because I have been helping the others," You respond. At least there is only one issue that is threatening the isolation. It has been three days since the isolation has started and you wake up to the smell of bacon and egg. You roll over to find Kelsey gone. It makes sense that he is up earlier than you. You head to the kitchen to find a shirtless Kelsey. You are slightly taken aback

"Good Morning schatzi," he remarks as he flips the egg.

"You know you are going to have to put a shirt on eventually. This isn't like home," You greet him as you grab his shirt from the chair. He takes the shirt and quickly puts it on. The others slowly trickle as Kelsey skillfully plates the food.

"After you commander," One of the science crew remarks.

"No Dane you should go get what you want," You respond. He takes your offer. After five minutes of waiting you have finally got your breakfast. Whilst you eat you are listening to the various breakfast conversations. Some are hopeful that they will last the rest of the time but others are not so sure. At least you know that they will come and tell you if they have any problems.

"Hey Lilly can you help me make a roster for the workout equipment?" Benji asks.

"Sure but I thought you had already done it," you respond as you take a bite of your food. You have to complement Kelsey later. Another two minutes later the workout roster is finished and you are thinking about what you can do next. It is bothering you because there isn't much admin stuff you can do until a fight breaks out. Hopefully, that doesn't happen. You start to think about whether or not it will be a good idea to make sure you have the checklists for Starship written down.

"Hey, Kelsey do you think it would be a good idea for me to write down some of the checklists while we are here?" You ask. You want someone else's opinion.

"If it gives you something to do then do it," Kesley responds. It has been a week and you are sick of dealing with petty arguments. You are glad that you are getting it sorted now. You wonder what Danny would think about it. You know he is watching. You hear some more yelling. It's from Roman and Kelsey. They are arguing over a major technical difficulty. You head over to the table where Roman and are. You are surprised that they are keeping it professional.

"Look Kelsey I may be the chief engineer but I am not the one that designed the systems," Roman looks like he could punch Kelsey in the face.

"But you can fix it," You hope that the argument doesn't reach boiling point.

"You don't get it. Unless I had access to the prototype, which I don't by the way, I can't fix it," Roman retorts. At least Danny is watching. You clear your throat.

"Yes schatzi," Kelsey immediately clams down but Roman hasn't.

"Why are you two arguing about something that you can't fix?" You ask to get your head around the situation.

"Roman could easily fix the issu-"

"No I can't because I need access to the prototype which Elon hasn't given to me yet," Roman cuts in.

"Ok Roman you sit at that end of the table and Kelsey you sit at the other," You order as you gesture to each side of the table. You go into full moderator mode.

"Roman you go first," You announce.

"Ok well I told Kelsey that there was an error in the design but I can't do anything about it because I can't do anything with the prototype," Roman outlines his side of the argument. You can tell that he has had a deep breath.

"Your turn Kels," You decide to hear both sides of the argument before proceeding with the negotiations.

"I told him he could ask Elon for access before the first cargo mission but he felt that he would ruin it," A position that you understand.

"And now you talk with each other about it," You lean back into your chair as they start peacefully discussing it. You get the feeling that the anger is still boiling away. Roman gets up in frustration.

"I'm sorry but I can't deal with it," He storms off. At least he hasn't headed to the door. You are about to follow him but you are stopped by a hand on your shoulder.

"Let him cool off," Ivan remarks. Five minutes later you are in your office. You are writing one of two weekly reports. You are interrupted by a timid knock on the door.

"Come in," you respond. Roman timidly enters the office. He holds his head in shame.

"What's wrong?" You get to work on getting to the bottom of the issue.

"Well I would like to apologise for my behaviour and I would also like to let you know that Kelsey and I have come to an agreement that we will both tell Elon," He timidly remarks. You can tell that there is more to the story.

"Is there something else bothering you?" You decide to get to the bottom of things. You really want to make any member of the crew feel better. He sighs.

"Unless you can let us out I can't think of anything," He responds. His mood immediately changes. It has now been two weeks since all entered isolation and it is time for you to emerge. The door opens and the crew is hit by a wave of relief.

"Hey commander, I'm going to go to the local pub with Roman. Do you and Kelsey want to join me?" Ivan remarks.

"Yes, we will go," Kelsey answers for you. You are glad that the nightmare is over. Seventeen minutes later you have all made it to a bar. You are too distracted by your thoughts on how the isolation went. Besides the big argument between Roman and Kelsey not much happened and you are happy about it. You decide to celebrate while you can.
