❝ You were my best friend. Hell, you were my family.❞

The ground was more beautiful than Carina could have ever imagined. For a long time, Carina just stood still and breathed in the air as the other delinquents ran around cheering and screaming in excitement and joy.
A day ago, Carina could have never believed that she would have been standing on the Earth today, and she half expected to wake up locked back up in her cell.
She looked around trying to decide what to do first. Part of her wanted to jump around with the other delinquents but part of her knew that soon they would have to find food and proper shelter. Food being the more important thing at the moment.
Carina suddenly spotted the blonde-haired girl perusing a map over by the jumpship. Carina strolled over to the girl and leaned her hip against the jumpship before talking to her, "So, what's the map of?"
The blonde-girl gave Carina a once-over before speaking, "It's a map of this area and we need to get to Mount Weather."
"Are we not by Mount Weather?" Carina asked, crossing her arms over her chest, sure that the girl was playing her.
The blonde-girl rolled her eyes at that, "No. They dropped us on the wrong mountain, so we need to get there as soon as possible otherwise we won't last very long."
Carina looked at her in shock but then quickly recovered, "How do you suggest we do that? They're not going to listen to you, you know. For once in their lives, they have no parental authority and no rules."
"We're going to have to make them listen." She answered, staring at Carina.
"We?" Carina asked, "There's no we. I just know we need food but that doesn't mean that I am going to listen to you."
The girl rolled her eyes, "If you're not going to help, then leave."
Carina glared at the girl, "Listen Miss Prissy Pants. I said I wasn't going to take orders from you. I didn't say that I wasn't going to help."
"My name is Clarke and fine, if you want to help then we're going to Mount Weather as soon as possible." The girl, that Carina now knew was named Clarke, said.
"Just us?" Carina asked, knowing that there was no way that they could carry food for all the delinquents by themselves. Plus, Carina wasn't sure she wanted to be alone with one other person, even if that person didn't seem too dangerous.
"No. We can't carry enough food and supplies for everyone by ourselves." Clarke shook her head right as Chancellor Jaha's son, Wells, came over.
"Who's this?" He asked, looking at Carina.
"My name is Carina." Carina answered for Clarke.
He nodded at Carina and then said, "We got problems. The communications system is dead. I went to the roof, a dozen panels are missing. Heat must have fried the wires."
Clarke shook her head, "Well all that matters right now is getting to Mount Weather." She showed him and Carina the map which she'd been measuring, "See? This is us. This is where we need to get to if we want to survive." She drew a line to where Mount Weather was.
"Where'd you learn to do that?" Wells asked but when Clarke was silent, he had his answer, "Your father."
Carina awkwardly stared at the two until another boy came over to them, "Ah, cool. A map. Is there a bar in this town, I'll buy you a beer." He joked.
Carina snorted at that but Wells grabbed him, "You mind?"
"Whoa. Hey." The boy stumbled backwards.
"Hey hey hey. Hands off him. He's with us." A boy with greased black hair came over to them, followed by a bunch of other boys as if they were his lackeys.
Carina immediately disliked him and she shot him a disdained look from her place beside Clarke. He shot her one right back and Carina was sure that she'd already made an enemy and they'd barely been on the ground for more than a couple hours.
"Relax." Wells' voice brought Carina back to reality as he held his hands up and backed away from the boys, "We're just trying to figure out where we are."
"We're on the ground. That not good enough for you?" Carina heard Bellamy's voice and she immediately moved so she was partly hidden by Clarke. She wasn't sure she wanted to see Bellamy quite so soon. He'd forgotten all about her while she was in lockup and she didn't really want to have a public fight with him. Besides, he hadn't come looking for her yet, so he probably thought she was back on the Ark, and maybe Carina wanted to keep it that way for a little while, even though she knew that was foolish seeing as how this day was going.
Wells shook his head, "We need to find Mount Weather. You heard my father's message. That has to be our first priority.
Octavia was next to Bellamy and she rolled her eyes, "Screw your father."
Wells and Clarke moved forward to talk to them but Carina hung back, trying to blend in with the boys by the greasy haired boy. The greasy haired boy gave her another look of disdain and Carina was almost certain that that was his permanent expression, and it was not attractive. Carina ignored the boy and focused her attention on Octavia and the others.
Octavia continued, "What, you think you're in charge here? You and your little princess?" She looked at Clarke.
"Do you think we care who's in charge?" Clarke interrupted, "We need to get to Mount Weather, not because the Chancellor said so, but because the longer we wait, the hungrier we'll get and the harder this will be. How long do you think we'll last without those supplies? We're looking at a twenty mile trek, okay? So, if we want to get there before dark, we need to leave. Now."
"I got a better idea." Bellamy spoke up, "You two go, find it for us. Let the privileged do the hard work for a change."
"Yeah." A bunch of delinquents cheered.
"Bell." Carina murmured, "What the hell happened to you?"
"You're not listening. We all need to go." Wells spoke up.
Carina suddenly was shoved aside as the pale, greasy haired boy moved forward and pushed Wells.
"Look at this everybody. The chancellor of Earth." He laughed.
Everyone laughed except for Clarke, Wells and Carina.
"Think that's funny?" Wells asked.
Before Wells could push the boy, the boy knocked him off his feet.
"Wells." Clarke yelled and moved forward but another boy grabbed her and pushed her back.
"No. But that was." The pale boy said.
Everyone jeered at Wells and the pale boy and Carina was sure that they were about to fight until another boy jumped down from the dropship and landed between them. Carina immediately recognized the spacewalker.
"Kid's got one leg. How about you wait till it's a fair fight." The spacewalker said to the pale boy.
Octavia strolled over to their group and smiled flirtatiously at the spacewalker, "Hey spacewalker. Rescue me next."
Everyone oohed in response and Carina rolled her eyes, following Clarke as she moved to help Wells. Wells had dragged himself over a couple paces, and was clutching his wounded leg. Carina winced. They hadn't even been on Earth for a day and already two people were dead, and one person was injured. Carina had a feeling that that didn't bode well for the future.
"Hey, you okay?" Carina asked him as Clarke felt his leg.
"You can't come with us." Clarke told him, and Carina had her answer.
The spacewalker walked up to them, "So, Mount Weather? When do we leave?"
Clarke looked up, "Right now." She stood up and faced Wells again, "We'll be back tomorrow with food."
"How are the two of you going to carry enough food for a hundred?" Wells asked.
"Three of us." Carina stood up just as the spacewalker grabbed two other boys, "Five of us."
One of the boys was the one who had flirted with Clarke earlier but Carina recognised both of them from one of her school classes.
"Can we go now?" The spacewalker asked.
"Sounds like a party. Make that six." Octavia strolled up to them but stopped in her tracks when she saw Carina, "Car?"
"Hey, O." Carina said softly, not sure what else to say. The amount of days that she had spent cooped up in the Blake's little room, in order to spend time with Octavia without letting her be seen, all flooded back to her. Octavia had been more than a best friend to her. She had been more like a sister. Those years felt like a millenia ago, but at the same time, Carina could recall those memories like they happened yesterday.
The others looked between them in confusion.
"Wait. You two know each other?" The spacewalker asked.
"Not that it's anybody's business, but yeah." Carina said in a harsh tone, not wanting to divulge her secrets quite yet.
Octavia just continued to stare at Carina in almost disbelief before she lunged forward and wrapped her arms around her. Carina laughed quietly, as she recovered her shock and hugged the smaller girl back.
Bellamy's voice suddenly sounded from behind them, "Hey. What the hell is going on?"
Octavia quickly pulled back from Carina and turned to look at her brother, "Going for a walk." She looked at Carina who was staring at Bellamy as if she wanted to disappear, "Hey, remember Carina?"
Bellamy halted as he stared at her in shock, "Car?" He quickly recovered, "What are you doing here?"
Carina crossed her arms over her chest, part in defense and part to stop them from shaking, "Um, let's see. I was a prisoner and then someone decided to send me to the ground."
Bellamy scoffed, "I know that, Car. I'm just surprised to see you."
"Don't call me that." Carina snapped and then sobered, "Sorry, I just need some time. And I didn't know you'd been locked up. What the hell did you do?"
Bellamy opened his mouth but Clarke interrupted, grabbing the spacewalkers arm.
"Hey. Were you trying to take this off?" She asked.
"Yeah. So?" He asked.
"So, this wristband transmits your vital signs to the Ark, Take it off and they'll think you're dead." Clarke explained.
"Should I care?" He asked.
"Well, I don't know. Do you want the people you love to think you're dead?" Clarke asked, "Do you want them to follow you down here in two months? Because they won't if they think we're dying."
Everyone was silent.
Clarke nodded, "Okay. Now let's go."
Everyone started leaving and Octavia looked to Bellamy for permission and when he nodded, she kissed his cheek and then skipped off.
Carina started to follow her but Bellamy grabbed her arm, "Wait."
"What?" Carina asked, whirling around to face him.
"Are you mad at me for something?" He asked her.
Carina scoffed, "Are you serious, Bellamy?"
When Bellamy didn't respond, Carina continued, "You forgot about me. And now you ask if I'm mad at you? Well, hell yes, I'm mad at you. You were my best friend. Hell, you were my family. And now, I don't know what to think. So, I'm going to go on this mission and maybe when I get back, we can have an honest conversation."
Bellamy stepped back in shock, "You've changed, Carina."
Carina rolled her eyes and then stared at him, "Yes, I've changed, Bell. I had to. Being locked up is horrible. The last time you saw me as my old self was when you visited me for the third and last time."
Bellamy actually had the decency to look embarrassed and apologetic, "Yeah, I've changed too and I'm sorry, Car, I would have come back, but I couldn't."
Carina wiped a tear from her eye, "Maybe you'll tell me why, if you want to keep being friends." She stared at him for a moment but when he didn't say anything else, she turned around and marched after Octavia and the others.
