Chapter Fourteen

“Finally you’re back; I went downstairs and stole a bottle of blood while you were gone.” Sasuke held up a half empty bottle of blood and I glared at him.

“You could have been caught, don’t do that again.” I said and he rolled his eyes at me. I looked out the window and paused, my eyes landing on an animal that looked like a large bear, but different. It was white with a black stripe running along its spine. When it saw that I was looking at it, it howled loudly and ran off into the woods.

Odd.

“I knew nobody was in the house.” I shook my head; it must have been my imagination. Sasuke seemed to not of heard the howl, and his ears were most likely as sensitive as mine. I turned back to Sasuke, giving him my full attention.

“You wouldn’t have known if my mom was in the house. Consider yourself lucky.” He shrugged and slumped on my bed. I nodded to the books and picked up one.

“Did you read them?” I asked and he nodded.

“Yeah, but honestly I didn’t learn much, just that the O type of blood tastes best.” I frowned at him and shook my head.

“You would.” I mumbled and then he suddenly grabbed my hand.

“Can I?” he asked and motioned to a vein. I shook my head no and pulled away.

“No, remember this morning? It seems I lost the human in me.” He opened his mouth as if to say something but closed it a second later, furrowing his eyebrows.

“I thought there was something off about you.” He mumbled and I nodded.

“Well, I’m starving. I’m going to go get something from downstairs.” He seemed to pout but didn’t try to stop me.

I made my way downstairs and my eye twitched as I noticed everyone watching me closely- especially my mom. But I paid no mind to it and fetched myself two bottles of blood.

“Uh, don’t you think that’s a bit much, un?” Deidara finally spoke after I finished off the first bottle, moving on the second. I moved the bottle away from my lips and frowned.

“Am I not allowed to eat until I’m satisfied?” I asked in return and he put his head down, unable to answer me. “Thought so.” I started drinking the blood again until it was snatched from me. I growled an animalistic growl but stopped when I saw that it was only my mom.

“You’ve had enough. Now that you’re a full-fledged vampire, you’re obviously going to want to drink more. But sadly, we can’t get everything we want.” She said with no emotion and I bowed my head down, swallowed by my own shame. I should have known that it was just my new vampire instinct to want blood and I should have been able to surpass the urge.

“Hey.” Mom finally says and put a hand on my shoulder, forcing me to look up at her. “Don’t beat yourself up about it. You didn’t know.” I got out of her grip and walked to the door, pausing to say,

“I’m going out.” Mom frowned but nodded.

“Be back by seven.” I scoffed, but reluctantly nodded. It was already five.

I used my vampire speed to quickly find Shikamaru and when I did, I jumped on his back from behind.

“Shiiikamarrrrru-kuuuun!!” I sung and heard him chuckle. He put his arms around my legs and held on so I wouldn’t fall. I rested my chin on his shoulder and sighed, inhaling his scent.

“You had a rough day, why are you here?” he asked and I smiled.

“I had it worse.” That was a lie; it hurt like hell to transit to a full-vampire. “I just wanted to see you, is that a problem?” he chuckled again and I noticed from the corner of my eye that he smiled softly.

“Of course not Taintie, you can see me whenever you please.” I giggled and hugged onto him a little more.

“You better be prepared then because I may just visit you in the middle of the night while you sleep.” We both laughed.

“And that doesn’t sound creepy at all.” He said sarcastically.

“Not in the least.” We laughed again except this time it was much quieter and soothing. I sighed again and leaned more onto him.

“I’m sorry you had to see that earlier, I wished you hadn’t.” I spoke very quiet, so only he could hear and he stopped. Now that I notice… we were at the same exact place that I had accidently tasted his blood.

I slowly got off of him and appeared in front of him.

“It was quite scary… I thought I had lost you.” He mumbled and I couldn’t help but to crack a smile, thinking of my newly made friend.

“You will never lose me, I can assure you that. I have proof.” He raised a brow.

“How would you have proof?” I almost lifted my shirt to show the tattoo that Death had given me but stopped.

“I cannot show you now, as we may be watched at the moment.” I said quietly and his eyes widened and his eyes carefully glazed over the treetops that surrounded us, stopping on one behind me and frowning. He moved his head up a centimeter, indicating that he saw somebody and that somebody was surely watching and I couldn’t help but to groan.

“Maualei!” I shouted and heard evil laughter. Maualei appeared in front of me and grabbed me by the neck, throwing me against a tree that was nearby. I fell forward and hit the ground on my knees.

“Constantine!” Shikamaru yelled concerned and I put my hand up to stop him from coming closer.

“Stay out of this Shikamaru and run!” I ordered and he seemed hesitant.

“I’m not leaving you!” I groaned.

“Just stay out of this and do not interfere!”

Maualei glanced at Shikamaru before smirking.

“I won’t hurt him… yet. I’m only here to kill you.” I lifted myself up and took my fighting stance.

“Trust me, old fat cow, you won’t kill me. You heard me, I cannot die.” She laughed and put her hand on her hips.

“Just because you are a full vampire doesn’t mean you can’t die. I could easily kill you, and your mother.” I felt my eyes widen. She would kill my mom if I didn’t stop her now.

But why was she doing this to me? Why now? Was she afraid?

I gave Shikamaru one last glance before lifting up my shirt and quickly doing three hand signs.

“Summoning Jutsu!” I yelled and touched the ground with my hands.

“What is that seal..?” Maualei whispered to herself, but I heard.

“This is the seal to a good friend of mine. This is my ticket to not dying. This is a guy that I call…

Death.” Shikamaru and Maualei gasped and both took a step back and smoke started to rise from the now cracking ground.

“Constantine… why have you called me? I was reaping a soul but now thanks to you, they get to live.” A dark velvety voice said annoyed. The one and only cloaked man stood there with his scythe.

“Hello to you to, Pablo.” I joked and he seemed to glare at me.

“Of all names, you choose Pablo?!” he yelled and I grinned. Then I remembered why I even summoned him here and frowned.

“I need you to kill this vampire. If you don’t, both I and my mother will die.” He snapped his head to look at Maualei and growled.

“My, my… Constantine, I’m afraid to tell you that that woman is not a vampire… or at least full.” I narrowed my eyes at him and crossed my arms.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Well obviously she has more power than any vampire should ever have, not as much as me of course. I have a question. Have you seen any wolves lately? One that was larger than any normal wolf?”

I suddenly froze.

“T-this morning, I saw one at the edge of the forest… I think it was watching me!” he nodded and glanced at Maualei before taking a deep breath.

“I’m afraid that this woman was born to a man that was a werewolf and a woman that was a vampire. Making her also a hybrid.”

Maualei suddenly snapped.

“How is it that you, a mere half-human, get to transit into a full-fledged vampire within two months?!” She screamed at me and appeared a foot away, taking my surprise as an opportunity to punch my in the gut and sent me flying into another tree. Death, or shall I now say Pablo, didn’t do anything about it as he seemed to be thinking something over in his head. Shikamaru had backed much more away and looked scared for his life.

“How is it, after one thousand years, that I still am a hybrid?! Why can I not just be you?!” She cried and continued throwing aimless punches, which I dodged.

This strong woman was finally at her breaking point, and I was the one she was targeting. I finally used my speed to run and knock Pablo upside the head.

“A little help here would be nice!” I grunted in pain as Maualei finally caught me and kicked me onto my back. Pablo dropped his scythe and started to do all of this weird hand signs that I’ve never seen in my life.

“Beast containment prison!” he muttered and held both of his hands out. Golden bars seeped out of his robe and wrapped around Maualei, causing large burns to appear on her. She screamed out in pain as she tried to thrash around, but it was no use- Death would always be stronger. Shikamaru seemed to get his own senses back and ran to me, pulling me out of harm’s way.

“I told you not to interfere.” I said and he frowned.

“In a way I didn’t. I didn’t take a step towards you until the battle was over.” He informed and I smiled at him.

“I guess you are right.”

Pablo seemed to be enjoying the torturing of Maualei and I liked the feeling that my family, friends, and everybody else would now be safe. But what the hell would I do now with Sasuke?

Finally Maualei seemed to give up on screaming and squirming around because she went limp and her eyes closed in exhaustion. Pablo bended the gold so it would encase Maualei in a coffin-like box. He smiled in amusement as he turned to me.

“Touching a werewolf with gold causes them the worst pain-“-he stopped to laugh. “It’s just too funny.” Me and Shikamaru looked at him like he was crazy for a moment but eventually smiled at him.

“Thank you Pablo.” Steam rolled off of him as he began yelling me about his new name. “But I guess you have work to do, so you can leave now.” I dismissed and he nodded.

“See you later Constantine.” He poofed away and I looked at Shikamaru and he smirked.

“How on earth did you manage to befriend death, let alone get permission to summon him?!” he asked and smirked, falling backwards so I could look at the clouds.

“Trust me, it wasn’t easy.”
