"Get up! Get up! Today you die, traitors!" Ine guard shouted. Edmund flinched at the word traitor.

They were shoved roughly doen the halls. Then the bright light of outside momentarily blinded Edmund.

Edmund walked calmly, feeling quite brokenhearted, to the executioner's block. He looked at the ground as the people yelled and booed him, he couldn't bear to look up. He knew at least Peter was in the crowd, probably not Elora, but Peter would be here.

The executioner began to talk loudly.

"These men are guilty of treason against the Tisroc and of Calormene itself!" Edmund got the courage to look up. His eyes met Peter's and Peter looked away.

Edmund was forced to kneel, then the man raised his axe in the air. Edmund squeezed his eyes shut.

The man lowered the axe.

Nothing happened, except for a sickening thud.

Edmund looked up, there was blood dripping from the axe, but it wasn't his.

Instantly he looked over to where he had last seen Peter. Peter was still there, looking sickened and pale.

Edmund looked around instantly saw what happened.

Ilden had sacrificed himself for Edmund.
