Chapter 5
Pidge typed on her computer and I looked at her. Right now we're in computer class, which I'm failing, and Pidge is looking for anything about lions. She already finished our class assignment and I am barely struggling to even finish one page. Instead Pidge has five pages open, mumbling to herself and her eyes flickering across the screen. She reminded me of computer genius from the action movies. Her fingers moved across then she gasped. I basically pushed my car and we crashed against each other.
"It doesn't look like that red lion you showed me." Pidge said, nodding her head to the picture.
"You're right. It's black, larger than red but with wings." I said.
The lion three times bigger than red, with large wings carved on the back. It looked like swirls was carved on, like something for a festival or family meaning. Pidge clicked through the pictures, showing us different sides and close ups. Then one picture I pointed at it. Pidge looked at me but I seen that symbol somewhere. It's Japanese.
"Can you read Japanese?" She asked me.
"No," I said and she groaned. "But Shiro can! His dad taught him when Shiro was a little boy. We need this photo now."
Pidge nodded, "Alright. But I think I found another lion, well two more."
I looked at her then back ay the screen. Two more lions after the black one, green and yellow one. I stared at them and she clicked on the yellow one. We went through pictures until we saw another sign, instead of a symbol it's a word. But I know the writing, when Hunk first found me he yelled and wrote in his native language. He told me it was Hawaiian, something he's proud of writing and reading. Pidge clicked on the green one, going through the pictures but stopped. Her eyes widened.
"Pidge? What is it?" I asked, shaking her.
"That means plants." She said.
I looked at Pidge and she refused to look away. I looked at the writing, I didn't understand but it looked Spanish but I knew Pidge didn't know Spanish. We both took Korean, since my father taught me the language, I could teach us both, help her pass and get easy A's. As a added bonus, for Pidge, it was on comouters.
"Pidge. What language is that?" I asked her.
"Italian. My dad tried to teach us, Matt and I, but I didn't get it. But I do know few words and phases. But trust me, piante means plants." Pidge said.
I stared at it, "Do you think that the red and blue lions have secret words too? I mean it's on yellow, green, and black lions."
"Would make sense. But we need Shiro and Hunk to tell us what these mean."
We both looked at each other. She nodded and printed out the images, as soon the images printed the bell rang. Pidge and I sneaked through the back door and climbed in Matt's jeep. She handed me her key and I started the jeep, driving to my house.
"One day, you're going to kick out of school." Pidge said.
"For what? Skipping the occasional class." I said.
"No, for your behavior problems. I know that you're going to snap."
"And when I do. I'll be the greatest ghost hunter."
"Ha ha, Keith."
I pulled up at our house and Pidge jumped out. We ran to the porch and Shiro opened the door. He looked like he's going to leave for the store, since he's holding his wallet and keys. Shiro looked between us and sighed. He stepped back in and we saw Hunk sitting on the counter lookong at us.
"Why are you out of school? In Matt's jeep? You have one more class! Which you need to pass, Keith!" Shiro yelled.
"Woah, Shiro remember what you tell me? Patience yields focus." I said.
Shiro just stared at me.
"Shiro we need your help. It's for a project but we don't know Japanese." Pidge said as she showed him the picture.
" リーダー. Huh, that means leader. Why do you need that for a school project?" Shiro asked.
"Uh, computers?" I tried.
Shiro sighed but I looked over at Hunk, who just looked out the window. Shiro smiled at me and patted my shoulder. I looked at him and he gave me that older brother look. If you have, or someome who's like, an older sibling they always give you 'be don't do anything stupid because it'll be on my shoulders' kinda look. I give him my best smile but Shiro looked at Pidge.
"Please, both of you, don't do anything stupid while I'm gone. I'll be either thirty or foury minutes. Don't burn the house down or flood please." Shiro said.
"Promise." Pidge and I said.
Shiro smiled and left the house, we listened to his car turn on and drove off. I turn to Hunk and I grabbed the pictures, as I marched to him I flipped through the photos til I got to the one I need. I showed him the yellow lion.
He looked at, "How did you find it?"
"What did he say?" Pidge asked. I repeated and she snorted, "It's the internet. You can find everything."
"Keith, did Lance show you these lions? You shouldn't try. . . these things are dangerous." Hunk warned.
"How come? Hunk these can help him. I promised I would help him."
"My tribe, that yellow lion saved me. But trust me Keith, if the na ʻunihipili are coming back. We won't be safe."
"Hunk, please tell me what it means."
"It means earth. The yellow lion, protected me by shielding with earth."
I nodded and turned to tell Pidge everything but Hunk grabbed my arm. I looked at him and he wore a grim expression. I froze and Hunk eyes was staring at the picture.
"Keith. The lions choose who they want, not you. Remember that." Hunk said.
I nodded then he looked out the window. He eyes looked like he see something else, and I know that he doesn't see the world of the living anymore. I told Pidge everything Hunk said, which gave her a look as she stared at the pictures.
"I seriously hope this person you promised is worth it." Pidge said.
I looked towards Hunk, "I know he is."
