CHAPTER 6

"Hi, dad!" Anuradha knocked Kamlesh's office door and peeped in. "You called?"

"Yes! Come in," he said, scribbling his signature on a piece of cheque before handing it to Kavitha.

"Surprising? You don't come here often unless you need something from your dad" Kavitha said in sarcasm.

Smiling her way in, "You know me well, don't you mommy? Unfortunately, I don't need him, dad needs me here today" Anuradha replied her with equal sarcasm.

"Kamlesh needs you?" Kavitha asked looking back at Kamlesh who wasn't interested in their conversation.

"Of course, I need her signature." Kamlesh acknowledged while going through some documents. "Sit, Anuradha. Kavitha I would like to have a few words with her in private."

"I don't understand that why do you always have to discuss the company matter to her!" Kavitha huffed getting up to leave.

"It's nothing that you don't know. Anuradha hold fifty-one percent of the company share and her saying is as important as the rest of the forty-nine percent. So, please." He gestured her to leave.

Kavitha stomped her way out slamming the door shut.

"It's a new non-profitable project. A quite reasonable doing welfare organisation came to us a couple of months ago for sponsorship to improve their infrastructure and they are also doing a fundraiser." Kamlesh spoke handing a document contained details about the welfare organisation.

"That's a very noble thought"

"Yes, it is. As a company, we allocate a fairly good sum for charitable events and as you are aware, our company have been involved in quite a number of welfare organisation. I'm afraid we might not be able to sponsor enough as we have reach the limit on the sum allocated for charity events."

"Oh! But we do have other funds coming in right, are the directors unhappy about breaking other allocated sums?"

"Not unhappy, but they are just taking a step back from the decision. They are wondering if the company could keep up if it continues to spend more on charity events." Kamlesh sighed.

It's been the tradition for their company on supporting charitable trust and welfare organisation from the very start of the business. With more business minded people coming in to the higher position in the company, Kamlesh have been having a hard time keeping up this tradition.

Anuradha sat silently in front of her father's big mahogany desk, gazing out at the window. To her knowledge, the company allocates ten percent annually from their company turn over for such events.

Learning that they have almost used the ten percent allocated for needy people and the thought about her dad wanted to help those who seek, elated her. Keeping the company in a well balance financial sheet is a must to consider as well.

"Fundraiser?" she spoke under her breath. The corners of her lips turned up, an idea had popped in.

"Dad, I have a better solution."

"What is it?"

"We can help them get more funds through the fundraiser. Looking at their welfare balance sheet, I think they can hardly get people from out to help them raise fund. Those people will ask more money to do it which I see they don't have much. I have a bunch of crazily talented people who can help them get the money they need." Anuradha suggested to her dad.

"Hmm.... Sounds good. Alright, talk to them and let me know, I will inform them about our decision." Kamlesh flashed a rare smile to Anuradha.

"Oh my, my! Did I just saw my dad smiled?" shocked Anuradha started teasing her father.

"Alright, now. That's enough of teasing now, shoo," that only made his cheeks add more shades of red.

It's been sometime now since Anuradha spent light moments with her dad. Today she felt overwhelmed that she could spent two hours with her dad, even though it was just for the company purpose.

"The Music Club won the bet!" Shika dropped the bundled registration forms next to Anuradha's laptop and took a seat opposite her.

"That's good news! Honestly, I don't mind losing the bet." Anuradha said without looking away from the screen.

"Why?"

She shrugged and looked up the clear sky. "I want him to be happy, Cameron hardly has a reason to smile and so I don't mind at all"

"Yeah, couldn't agree more. Poor guy has been working hard to make ends meet. Losing this bet won't kill us, anyway he had promise to help us out but..... But I still think that Karthik guy, played trick on that day." Shika said with much anger as she crushed one of the registration form.

"Hey!" Anuradha grabbed the crushed paper, flattening it she asked, "Why do you think he did trick that day?"

"Because I saw. Remember you asked why he kept walking back and forth outside of the Lecture Room we were in." Anuradha nodded.

"That was his trick. He was intentionally walking in front of the class corridor just to pull those students who were already in our club to his. I'm sure this must be Cameron's idea." Shika was about to crush another form, Anuradha managed to safe the rest of the bundle.

"Now, I cannot be happy that Cameron won the bet until he clarifies himself" Shika was determined to know if it was Cameron's nasty idea to get more students in or not.

"If he does than we will go snatch that semester end achievement award for 'Most Number of Members in A Club Award' from him" Anuradha added giving a high five to beaming Shika.

*-*-*-*-*

"Karthik!" four girls were running behind him, chasing him all the way from his faculty to the huge lawn. Karthik could no longer pretend not hearing them.

"Karthik!" one of them call as all the other girls stood in front of him, catching breath.

"What is it, girls?" trying not to sound irritated, he looked at his watch making sure he wasn't late to his next class.

"The piece you played at the opening was beautiful." His eyes began to scanned the surrounding for the presences of the SUPERHERO.

"Can you play the same piece again for us, please?" a girl in pink dress requested.

'They won't let me go until I play their request but I don't have time. Just say 'no' Karthik!'

Spotting Anuradha on the other side, "I wish I can_" he paused and thought for a second if it's okay to say it "... but someone won't like it"

Pushing her long hair over her shoulders, the girl questioned, "Girlfriend?"

"Sort of, we haven't confessed yet" he lied.

"Who is she?" another girl asked, without thinking much Karthik pointed to Anuradha.

"Anuradha?" the girls were shocked to know Karthik is Anuradha's boyfriend and doubted if she was really in a relationship with him.

"Oh, I don't believe you! Let's just ask her about it" the girls were quite sure that Anuradha wouldn't be in any relationship. They knew she never liked to be tied in a relationship.

"Why won't you believe?" he asked as he started to feel a little nervous.

"Because we don't!" two girls said in unison.

"If Anuradha confirms that she is your girlfriend, we will pay you twenty pounds each and will never ask you to play for us again but if it turns the other way around. You have to play whenever we ask you to. Okay?"

That's a risk Karthik was about to take. A couple of seconds of thinking, it's worth the gamble, he thought and agreed to them.

"I will go call her" the girl in pink ran to call Anuradha, she spoke something as Anuradha looked at Karthik.

Karthik silently prayed for her to help him this time too. 'Please Superhero'. The closer she got the more he felt nervous, his palms started sweating.

"What is it?" Anuradha asked crossing her arms across her front.

"Are you guys dating?" One of them asked.

Anuradha looked at Karthik for a good ten seconds, before smiling wide. She jumped next to Karthik and linked her arms in his.

"Yes, we are" she replied to them, "But didn't I ask you to keep it low" she whispering to Karthik almost in a threatening way.

"What??!!" the girls screamed in disbelieve. "but_you_didn't," they were stammering unable to digest the fact.

"See time changes everything. And that's how this happened" she pointed at both of them.

"We love you Anuradha and so, we don't mind losing this bet because you both look perfect together" one of the girls wept.

Anuradha was left speechless as the girls seemed happy about her being in a relationship which wasn't in real.

"Don't worry girls, we have the whole month for the Arts Festival to end I will dedicate one musical piece for your girls" he said giving a wink to the girls.

The girls soon left after giving Karthik his prize money.

"What were they after you for?" she asked removing her arms from his.

"Flute piece I played at the opening of Arts Festival."

"Wow!! I heard girls go crazy for celebrity and I think I'm seeing one live." Anuradha proclaim, widening her eyes and pointed her finger at him. "Alright, have fun with your prize. See you around." She smiled and turned to walk back.

'Superhero she is indeed' he thought as he watched her walk away.

Something strikes his mind and he intended to share it with Anuradha.

"RADHA!" he called.

She froze on hearing the name he called. "Did he just call me Radha?" she thought, it was fresh, new and it sound good too. No one had called her with using the second half of her name. It felt good.

A wider smile made its way to her already smiling lips, turning to face him.

"Are you free anytime today?" he asked.

Remembering the bet, she lost to Cameron, "Not today maybe some other time" declining politely, she took steps backward. "Bye. See you around, Manohar!" she waved and joined Shika.

Radha was what Karthik like about in her name, it had a different ring to it and was classy too but for Anuradha, the name Manohar came out unexpectedly.

Anuradha try to behave casually walking away from him as soon as she realised what she called him, she wasn't sure for herself why did she called him Manohar when her mind knew exactly to call him Karthik.

"but Manohar sounds good too. Since the name made its way out by itself, I shall call him Manohar from now on." she spoke to herself and left for lunch with Shika and Cameron, forgetting the new name he had given her.

It was a fresh hit for him too, 'Manohar' the name gave him a new feel. He kept repeating his name 'Manohar', 'Manohar', 'Manohar'.

"I never thought my middle name would sound just as good as my first name"

"Manohar...."
