CHAPTER 28
The rumbled grey sky and the thick blacken clouds mirrored Karthik Manohar's life, grey, boring and lifeless. That's what sums up his life for the past three years.
Staring out the big window from the 15th floor of Panther's Watch Company, Karthik enjoyed the view the nature was giving and the pitter patter on the window, his favourite song of the season.
His only favourite song.
A knock interrupted his relaxation, Karthik walked to his desk and waited for the stressed Uday to speak.
"Amma is in the hospital now. I want you to go and check on her, I will stay and take care of things here" Uday said in a breath.
"What happened to her?"
"I don't really know. The person who called said it was snatch and run case, amma got hurt and fell unconscious."
"I will leave right away to London" Karthik hurriedly picked up his office bag, mobile and car keys.
"Karthik, but its pouring heavily" Uday stopped Karthik, looking at the dark sky.
"I'll drive slow. Just call the person again and tell them to stay with amma till I reach"
Digvijay used to tell his sons that if they know what and where they are heading to, there's nothing going to stop them. Moving forward with passion will always bring you to success no matter how long it takes.
Wise words of Digvijay, Karthik Manohar too thought the same way.
Focus.
Focus on what brings life in him. Music. Those wise words were slowly fading the determination in him when he had been rejected by many music companies. Although Digvijay had offered Karthik to open his own music production company, the latter had been polite enough to decline Digvijay's offer and waited to build his own identity without the money influence his father had.
Many trials went failure though Karthik gave his hundred percent in every audition. And each time he was rejected the one thing he have been hearing was 'your songs seems lifeless', 'it depicts flat emotions' and many as such.
It was at that period of time when Digvijay and Uday met in a terrible accident, causing Digvijay to go in a coma state and Uday got paralysed below waist.
In such depressive state, Karthik had no choice but to put his lifeless passion aside and focus on the company alongside Roopa.
With intensive care, surgery and exercise Uday was getting better day by day, lessening Roopa's burden giving her more time to concentrate on Digvijay who is being treated at home and her Women Empowerment Association.
*-*-*-*-*
It was close to three o'clock night when one of the nurse woke Anuradha who fell asleep at the waiting lounge. Anuradha was allowed to stay with the patient for the remaining night.
Knocking the door softly, Anuradha poked her head in first. She was greeted with a warm smile from the woman on the bed named, Roopa Chauhan.
"How are you feeling?" Anuradha closed the door behind and walked to the bed.
"Much better"
"I have informed your son, he should be here in the morning"
"Thank you, sweetie. What's your name, young lady?"
"Anuradha"
"What a wonderful name!"
Accompanying the anxious Roopa, Anuradha stayed awake till six in the morning talking all random stuffs with the former who refused to sleep. It was after six in the morning that finally Roopa decided to retire for the day and Anuradha managed to get some sleep.
Unlikely any other day, Anuradha woke up sharp eight o'clock without the world war II alarm waking her up. Glancing over the bed, Roopa was sleeping soundly. Deciding to get a change of dress, Anuradha headed out to her car to pick the spare clothes she carried with her everywhere she goes.
Without knocking Anuradha opened the door, a tall man stood at the bed side, she immediately uttered 'sorry' before closing the door and waited outside.
It took seconds for her to register what happened, it was too fast for herself. The man inside seems to be oddly familiar but a mere seconds of glance didn't help her identify who that man was.
Anuradha waited outside the ward almost twenty minutes, she regretted leaving her phone inside. Anuradha was sure by now, Cameron and Christopher would have been taking turns in calling her for not picking up their calls.
"Excuse me...?"
Anuradha who had her back facing the man, stood stagnate. "I know the voice" she thought before turning around.
"Radha?!" Karthik Manohar gasped.
He never thought he would meet any of his college mates again especially Anuradha. Definitely not after how he spoke to her the last time, he wondered if she will even be as friendly as she used to be.
Meeting her after three years, the sight of her felt refreshing to his lifeless life, the brown eyes still looked attractive as how they did three years ago. Not to forget the magic those eyes were doing.
Magic.
"Manohar?!" Anuradha muttered. 'Chauhan. Karthik, why didn't that strike me when Roopa aunty spoke about her family earlier?" she thought.
Anuradha was extremely happy to see Manohar after three years, her smile widened but the unfamiliar feel begins to hover her again after all these years in a snap.
'What is it? Why is it coming again?'
"How are you, Radha?" Manohar asked almost surprised with her reaction on seeing him.
"Doing good. And you?"
Anuradha's phone rang again interrupting Manohar who was just about to reply her.
"It's been ringing for long" Manohar handed her the phone,
"Thank you, it's Cam. My alarm" she giggled and cancelled the call instead she sent him a message.
"Thank you so much, Radha. For helping my mother yesterday and stayed here with her the whole night"
"Keep that thank you to yourself, Manohar. I just did what anyone would do, okay" she said.
"Anyways, thank you again. By the way what really happen yesterday?"
"Yesterday... me and Chris was at one of the café and saw your mother calling for help as two men chasing her. They managed to snatch her bag and ran away before anyone could catch them but the police got her bag and failed to catch the thieves. It's in the police station for now, the officer in charge had requested Roopa aunt to stay in city for two days just until they are done with the investigation."
Manohar nodded absorbing everything Anuradha said, "but it's just a snatch and run case, right? Why do we need to stay in city?" he asked.
"I'm not sure, Manohar maybe we can go to the police station later and find out what is it all about" Anuradha suggested.
Just then on perfect timing, Anuradha glance behind Manohar. Christopher walked in with two cup of hot coffee and a file.
"Good morning, sleepy head..." Christopher failed to notice the man next to him until Anuradha signal him to turn to the side.
"Karthik!" Christopher exclaimed, scanning him top to bottom. "What! Mate, you so much in style now, isn't he, Butterfly?" Christopher asked Anuradha, nudging Manohar in the rib.
"Indeed"
"You are no less, Chris"
"I know right, I'm born handsome. Just that someone isn't ready to accept it"
"Yeah, yeah right, keep praising each other. No one is going to accept the fake, Chris. I'm going in" Anuradha picked up her small bag from the floor and the coffee from Christopher.
*-*-*-*-*
Anuradha messaged her temple trying to ease the aching caused by the news Mark had given her. She had left the hospital with Christopher shortly after having their breakfast with Roopa and Manohar.
Though Kavitha and Ajay had completely cut ties with her, Anuradha always kept an eye on their activities. Mark had informed her that Kavitha's cosmetic company is slowly going down, mostly unable to pay their debts and that Ajay is also strongly being involved in illegal activities to get more money.
"It's time for you to be extra careful, Anuradha. I'm very sure Kavitha will come back to you to get sympathy, don't fall for it" Mark warned.
"I'll be. Anyhow, Mark I need a favour from you."
"At your service, Ms. Ray"
*-*-*-*-*
Anuradha had been vigorously typing a document all by herself without getting the project manager to get the job done. The part of project manager eventually had flown away along with her presence of mind because someone else was present in her mind at the moment.
Her heart has been constantly beating fast every time she thinks about the encounter this morning.
Christopher wasn't wrong at all. Yes, Manohar now looked much stylish and attractive. Way too attractive for her to even deny it.
Anuradha couldn't even distinguish what was exactly happening in her. Why she gets so attracted to his eyes? Why she now feels the strange feeling that she had during college just got stronger?
Shika's words suddenly hit her hard.
'You are unknowingly developing feelings for Manohar'
"Is that the reason for all these strange feelings?" Anuradha dropped her head on the desk brushing of the thoughts.
Yet those eyes never left her brains, it still had that magnetic force. Probably stronger than before.
Probably it has magic as well, that works for one pretty well.
Those brown eyes surely did the magic because ever since Manohar met Anuradha, just as it happened before, the music notes were doing its job in his brains after a long time.
He felt alive.
The instrument that he did not wish to touch for the last two years, just a mere pair of eyes urged him to have his flute back. Manohar immediately got a new flute and brought the mentally assembled the music notes to life.
The notes brought life and rejuvenation for his lifeless life. He knew it, it's blooming and there's nothing going stop it.
The brown eyes had done its magic once again.
