Chapter Twelve

Sophia stood in front of the mirror. Slowly, she turned to her left and then right, her eyes scanning the mirror. The black dress clutched onto her body like her skin, it made her curves look even more appealing. But she had not smile plastered on her face but she wore a grave expression.

Why were funerals so dreadful?

She sighed as she picked up her purse and turned around. Serenity was sitting on the bed with her legs dangling downwards. She looked at the watch, it was almost 11:59. Alice was taking Serenity and Jose to a new amusement park today. Sophia didn't want Serenity anywhere near funerals or such dreadful occasions.

The bell rang after a few minutes and Serenity ran downstairs with Sophia behind her. "Don't run, you'll fall" Sophia warned her but she of course did not listen. Ciel stood at the door and Alice stood outside with a smiling Jose looking arund nervously.

"Hey bub!" Alice smiled as she ruffled Serenity's hair and Serenity giggled. Sophia walked towards them and offered them a small smile.

''Thank you again Alice''

"Don't thank me! I love spending time with her. Anyway we're getting late shall we go bub?" She asked Serenity who nodded her head eagerly.

Sophia gave them a weak smile and soon watched as they all moved into the car and soon drove off.

Sophia stood under a small tree and looked ahead of her. A coffin was being placed on the ground, a lady crying for her daughter.

She was young, too young to die such a terrible death. Aubrey Simmons was a 23 year old girl who had just started her life. She had a good job and her parents loved her but who would have thought what fate had in store for her.

Rape and murder was definitely not one of them.

Sophia looked around, there were a few known faces and many unknown ones. Must be their family who flew all the way here for her funeral.

She closed her eyes as and thought back on the day where she was in the same position. The day no one knew about.

Sophia was running around the kitchen with a box of cereal in her hand and music playing on the television. She had just came home and mom had taken Erica to her parents meeting, meaning she would have a few hours to herself.

Sophia sat down on the torn couch with her legs crossed and her back against the couch.

"Although loneliness has always been a friend of mine, I'm leaving me life in your hand, people say I'm crazy and yes I am bliiiiind.." Sophia hummed with the backstreet boys as they sang in thier melodious voice and she in her not so good one.

Suddenly the phone rang in the kitchen,
"Must be mommy" She jumped of the couch and kept the remote on the side.

"Hello?"
"Hello? Sera?" A weak voice spoke on the end.
"Daddy..?" Sophia whispered. She had been told that her father left her to be with someone else. She knew that was a lie, she knew he loved her. Maybe he loved her more than Erica, she was the big baby. Wasn't she?
"Hey Soppy. How are you moo?" He coughed on the other end but it was ignored by Sophia.
"Daddy I'm good, when are you coming back? Mommy told me you left us..I know you didn't. Please come back soon the next season of winx club is starting next week. We'll watch it together like always" She asked him hopefully.

A sigh was heard on the other end.

"I'm not coming back Soppy. I won't be able to make it" He whispered the last part.
Sophia furrowed her eyebrows and licked her lower lip nervously.
"Why not daddy? You have work? Come later then?" Sophia tried to push the matter further knowing her father would not say no to her.

"Soppy.." He whispered,"I'm sorry I failed you and Erica as a father. I'm sorry I won't be there for you anymore. I'm sorry for everything but I love you so much. Please take care of yourself and your mother. She's a gem, but I was coal. I-I'm just so sorry. I love you.."

There was a long deadly silence that prevailed between them.

"Why are you not coming back daddy..?"

But there was no answer from the other side. The phone went dead.

Sophia tried calling back on the number but the phome was switched off. She tried to contact her father without letting her mother know but she failed. There was no sign of him anymore. It was like he had vanished. Sophia woshed she was bigger so she could drive and look for him like mommy did that night when he left. But she couldn't do anything.

She didn't tell her mother anout it either. She didn't want to disturb her happiness.

Everything was going back to normal. Sophia still wanted to find her father but she was waiting. Waiting for the time to pass and for her to grow up. She was waiting.

But that one day shattered all her hope. Her dreams. A child was left broken.

Her father was dead. He was in the hospital from the past 6 months fighting cancer. Alone. And now, he was no longer there.

"Tissue?" A deep voice brought her back from her terrible thoughts. She wiped away her tears quickly and blinked her eyes a few times. "No thank you" She answered in a hoarse voice.

The stranger didn't answer after that. After Sophia finally had a control over her vison he looked up to find him standing there.

"You?" She asked astonished.

"Yes me. She worked im my office was a charming young lady." He told her but never did he look at her.

"Oh sorry. I was just a bit shocked to see you here." She apologized for her behaviour. She had already embarrassed herself enough in front of him.

Salvador looked at a crying woman, who had an old man supporting her. "Is she the mother?" He asked. Sophia followed his direction and looked at Aubrey's mother. Then she nodded sadly. "Yes that's Mrs. Simmons.''

Salvador nodded. He didn't really care who she was. He had come here for a different reason.

"It was nice seeing you Sophia. I'm glad we could talk without your watchdog around"

They were standing im front of her house, Salvador had his car been called to pick him up.

"You sure you don't want to come in?" Sophia asked him politely. Also, purposely trying to change the subject.

Salvador smiled and shook her head. "I'll be leaving. I have work to finish. Maybe next time"

At the same time a Mercedes pulled up near him. The driver got out of the driver's seat and jogged over to Salvador's side opening the door for him.

Salvador gave her one last smile before he got in and the driver drove off, leaving Sophia alone in her strangling thoughts.

Salvador looked out of the window at the sun that was starting to get consumed by the clouds.

He remembered when he would stop the car and take pictures of sich beautiful scenery. It was what he loved.

Loved. Yes, he no longer loves it. He no longer believes in the beauty of nature. It took away that one precious thing from him, that he cherished the most.

"Savy!" A young girl yelled as Salvador ran with her barbie in his hands.
"Oh come on fatso. Try to run atleast! " He turned towards the little girl and stuck his tongue out at her. "Oh no wait don't run. We don't want an earthquake" He mocked her and soon fell into his own fit of laughter.
The girl stared at him with sad eyes ,"Savy miss Hannah is hurting"
Salvador looked at the girl and then her toy and soon fell over his stomach laughing hysterically.

"What am I supposed to do with you?" He asked as his laughter soon died down and he walked over to her.
He held his hand towards her and gave her back her doll. "Here take it"

The little girl snatched it from his hand and started running inside.

Salvador watched her as she ran with her full speed inside their house. His expressions changing from happy to worried.

"Go slow or you'll fall, Sapphire!" He yelled out but she vanished.

Soon, forever.
