Chapter Eleven -Everybody Wants Sam
Dean watched from the window as Cas walked down the street away from him. He had no idea what had happened, but it had scared him. When Cas turned a corner out of view, Dean went back and sat on the couch, staring at the TV.
"Hey, Dean," Sam said, coming in the door.
"Hey Sammy," Dean replied, standing back up, "Did you have fun?"
"Yeah. I, uh... I actually wanted to talk to you," Sam said, sounding nervous.
"Yeah?" Dean asked.
"Uh... Jess asked me to the homecoming dance," Sam said. Dean grinned.
"Well you were being too much of a wimp to do it," he said. Sam crossed his arms and Dean smirked at him.
"Dean, please be serious. I'm really nervous," Sam said, collapsing onto the couch.
"Okay, okay, fine," Dean said, sitting next to him.
The next day, the first thing Dean did was look for Cas. He'd been texting him all night, but Cas had never replied. Dean scoured the whole school but couldn't find him, and he didn't show up for art.
"What happened?" Charlie asked at lunch.
"I don't know, we were just siting there, watching a movie, and then he's freaking out! I tried to get him to tell me what happened, but he just left. I'm really worried about him, Charlie," Dean said.
"I'm sure he's fine. He just needs time. He has his brother Gabriel, right?" Charlie tried to reassure him.
"I guess. I just wish I knew he was okay," Dean said. Charlie patted him on the back.
That afternoon, Sam and his friends were all hanging out and playing video games at their house. Dean was pacing back and forth in the back of the room.
"Dude, I think I can see a groove in the floor, calm down," Sam said. Dean stopped pacing.
"Sorry. I'm just really nervous," he said.
"What about?" Kevin asked.
"His boyfriend," Sam answered. Dean shot Sam a glare.
"He isn't my boyfriend," Dean snapped.
"For now," Sam said. Dean just pulled out his phone and sent Cas yet another text asking if he was okay.
Dean couldn't focus all that weekend. He kept sending Cas so many texts it was embarrassing, but he just couldn't relax without knowing Cas was okay. On Monday, Dean couldn't wait to get to school - a completely new feeling for him. He searched the school again, but still found nothing. He was about to search the whole town when he noticed Cas slip in the back of art class five minutes late. Dean raised his hand in a small wave but Cas ignored him and sat in the back. Dean didn't even try that class, and as soon as the bell rang he stood up and dashed to the back.
"Hey, Cas, are you okay?" he asked. "I've been texting you like crazy." Cas didn't meet Dean's eyes.
"Please, man, give me something. You just ran away, I didn't have a clue what happened, I had to spend all weekend wondering what happened to you. I was terrified. Terrified you might... might do that again," Dean said, gesturing to Cas' arm, "or worse." Cas just ducked past him and headed out the hall, leaving Dean standing there alone.
When the last bell rang, Dean rushed outside, looking for Cas again. Dean didn't see him, but he saw that next best thing. Gabriel was sitting in his car, drumming along with some song or other when Dean ran up.
"Dean." Gabriel greeted somewhat coldly through the open window.
"Gabriel, is Cas okay? He won't talk to me. I mean, he keeps avoiding me," Dean said.
"I'd ask you the same thing. What happened Thursday night?" Gabriel asked.
"I don't know. We were just watching a movie, and then he was freaking out! It was like he couldn't even see me, and when he finally did, he just got up and left!" Dean told him. The look on Gabriel's face changed from hostility to understanding.
"Oh." Dean was about to ask what Gabriel knew when he was interrupted by Sam walking up to them.
"Hey Dean, who's this?" he asked. Gabriel looked at Sam a second before raising his eyebrow.
"The face of your dreams, cupcake," Gabriel said. Dean almost burst out laughing at how red Sam's face turned.
"I-I- uh, I'll be in the car, Dean," he stuttered.
"Are you sure you don't want to come home with me?" Gabriel smirked. Sam's eyes went even wider and Dean couldn't hold back his laughter anymore. Sam glared as Dean doubled over, his shoulders heaving, holding his stomach. Gabriel held out a slip of paper to Sam, who took it reluctantly.
"Call me, hotcakes," Gabriel said, before clicking with his mouth and backing out of the parking space.
"Thanks for the help, Dean," Sam said sarcastically as he turned and walked back to the Impala. Dean walked after him, still chuckling.
