Chapter 33 - On the Right Side

(T/W for blood and mention of dead person(I think y'all already know who )(btw I almost forgot to put this warning so sorry bout that XP)

POV: Grian

Location: The skies above the Admin HQ

Out of pure instinct, I tucked in my wings and shot through the sky. I reached out my hands, golden light surrounding them. Xisuma and EX stopped fighting as they realized they were encircled by golden energy and looked around to see me flying toward them. When I was about to reach them, I spread my large wings and completed the u-shape. Clenching my fists like I was grabbing something, I pulled the twins along with me and flew straight back up to the Admin HQ. In order to keep the Prime distant personality, I tossed them both onto the roof with little shown care. That was close, I thought, my chest heaving from the anxiety of seeing them fall.

EX growled as he was released and jumped to his feet only to see Admins advancing him. I realized with pride that the Admins were managing to hold their own against the insane number of Watchers surrounding them. Not far in the sky stood a portal that defeated Watchers regularly flew into. I figured that the Admins couldn't see it but of course, I had a very interesting past.

I landed on the roof near Xisuma and offered him a hand. He took it and I pulled him up, the both of us turning to look at EX. He just glared at us, his left wing still bleeding from when Xisuma cut it.

All of a sudden, he let out a silver blast of magic, forcing all Admins around away from him. Watchers surrounded him and began attacking the limited number of Admins.

A familiar Watcher charged at me and I narrowly dodged his attack. My sword came to my hand as I realized who I was staring at. The Watcher standing in front of me was none other than Instructor Zerothke. Why he was there attacking and not at the Academy, I had no idea.

He swung his sword at me, pulling me out of my thoughts. He was brave to challenge the Prime Admin and I commended him for it. Nevertheless, I couldn't have him beating me. I blocked his attack and made my own strike. Zerothke blocked it and struck me faster than I could react. His obsidian blade cut into my left shoulder, making me gasp in pain.

I swung at him, managing to rip through his dark combat robes and cut him on the chest. He gripped the wound for a moment, his hand turning red from the blood. His expression was hidden by his mask but I was certain he was infuriated.

Raising his sword and channeling his magic through it, he sent a silver blast at me. I raised my sword, reinforcing it with golden energy, and deflected his magic.

He gritted his teeth and spread his pale purple wings, taking to the skies. I spread my large white wings and swiftly followed him, ignoring the pain stinging in my arm.

He swung his sword, a silver line of magic following its movement. Narrowly dodging it, I launched the same attack, but with golden magic. He tried to avoid it but I managed to give him another shallow wound on his chest.

While I was distracted, he sent a blast of magic at me. I tried to evade it but it managed to graze my side, ripping through my black hoodie and burning the skin underneath. I gritted my teeth against the pain but the adrenaline running through my veins kept me going.

I swiftly raised my hand, wincing as pain struck through my arm once more, and allowed a golden line of magic to follow my movement. It struck him in the arm, blood spewing from the wound.

However, it only seemed to make my former Instructor angrier. He pointed his sword at me, channeling his magic through it, and sent a continuous blast of silver magic at me. Remembering the times I had done this in practice, I smirked and raised my own sword. Just as it had in the past, my golden magic easily took over Zerothke's silver magic. The magic exploded and Zerothke was pushed back from the blast.

I stood my ground- or rather air- as I faced him. Both of our eyes were hidden so neither knew what the other was truly feeling. However, I suspected he was slightly piecing things together. I needed to end the fight as soon as possible.

Zerothke seemed to have the same idea, as he swiftly charged at me, his obsidian blade raised. I tried to block it but he pushed back with more strength than I expected. His blade sliced through my hoodie, cutting deep into my chest. I let out a gasp, backing away from the Watcher. None of my organs had been hit but it still hurt like the Nether.

I gritted my teeth against the pain and retaliated with my own attack. I sent a blast at him, no destination in mind. However, a gasp of pain from the Instructor made me look and realize I had managed to graze his head. His dark hair was even darker where I hit him, the edges sizzling slightly from the blast.

He let out a growl and gave me a punch in the face that sent me reeling away. I raised a hand to feel the spot, surprised to feel blood coming from my lip. I glared at him but he was already flying toward the portal.

"Retreat!" The cry had come clearly in my mind, even though none of the other Admins could hear it. I hid any reaction to the call and just watched as the remaining Watchers returned to the portal.

EX shot me a dirty glance before spreading his wings and flying off after the Watchers. His flying pattern was irregular thanks to his wound but he still made it inside the portal.

The remaining Admins landed on the HQ roof, all of us bearing wounds from the assault.

I swept my gaze over the Admins in search of those I know. I saw Myriel standing tall near the hole in the roof, despite the wounds marking her body.

Once most of the Watchers were inside, the large rift snapped closed. Multiple Watchers had been captured and held down but we had no intent in hurting them. Torturing hostages was the Watchers' style, not the Admins.

I let out a quiet sigh of relief but then remembered. Xisuma. I searched for his familiar gray helmet and was relieved to see him helping a wounded female Admin stand up. I was glad he was okay.

Soon, nurse Admins began flying out of the HQ to bring us to the infirmary and tend to those injured the worst.

I let out a quiet gasp as the adrenaline from the fight ran out and the pain from my wounds seemed to amplify by a thousand. My nurse came over to me, worry in her eyes, and ushered me over to the opening in the roof. I accepted her help, relieved that another nurse was helping Myriel.

~Short Time Skip(Brought to you by Joe Hills)~

Soon enough, Myriel and I were sitting in the Prime Admin Infirmary, which was connected to the Prime Admin Quarters just for this purpose.

I grimaced as the nurse wrapped a bandage around my shoulder to stop the bleeding. I had allowed a single nurse to know who I was so she could easily treat me but she wasn't allowed to tell anyone. A white curtain blocked us from the view of the other Prime and nurse. I was sitting on a white bed with the nurse sitting beside me and dressing my wounds. Of course, this meant I had to have my shirt off but it didn't matter too much because I trusted the nurse.

I gritted my teeth as the nurse moved onto the burn on my side. It was a decently bad magic burn so the area was purple and charred. She swiftly applied healing magic to it and wrapped it in a bandage. From there, she bandaged my chest and then was done. I thanked her quiet enough for only her to hear me and she left through the curtain.

I let out a quiet sigh and just stared at the ground. I waited for the other nurse to leave before standing up from the bed. Upon leaving the small room made by a curtain, I was met with Myriel looking at me with worry in her eyes. Her wounds had been bandaged as well but she still looked exhausted.

"What?" I asked, sounding tired and a bit annoyed because of it.

"How do you think the Watchers made it here without us knowing about it?" she questioned.

I glanced away. "They made a portal," I answered.

"And... You could see it?"

I nodded without looking at her. "Guess that comes with being a Watcher," I softly replied.

She sighed quietly and suddenly wrapped me in a hug. I froze for a few moments before melting into the hug. It didn't matter that we were both covered in wounds and it didn't matter that I literally wasn't wearing a shirt. We were just glad we were both okay.

"Come on, you should head back to Hermitcraft soon," she said softly, a small smile on her face. I looked up at her and nodded with a similar smile on my own face.

I grabbed my black hoodie from inside the small closed-off bed and followed Myriel up the stairs. I went off to the left while she headed off to the right.

I pushed open my bedroom door and headed inside. I looked down at my torn black hoodie with a look of almost regret on my face. Without a word, I tossed the piece of clothing onto my bed and walked over to my closet. After putting on a new pair of gray jeans, I quickly grabbed a fresh red sweater out of it and slipped into it. I realized it was a bit loose and looked huge on me. However, I didn't care and just headed back out of my room. I intended on visiting again soon but I just wanted to get back to the Hermitcraft server.

I glanced over at Myriel's room and saw her standing in the doorway. "Be safe," she said with a smile on her face.

I weakly smiled back. "I'll try," I responded.

Without another word, I headed down the stairs and over to the way. Raising my hand, I created a golden portal and stepped through.

Grian has joined the game

I let out a sigh and made the golden portal vanish behind me. I checked the log and sure enough, Xisuma had joined a little while before I had. Suddenly feeling tired, I wandered over to my bed and plopped down on it face first. My arm was hanging off the bed but I didn't care. I just wanted to sleep.

I let out a quiet frustrated sigh as the sound of rockets rung through my base. However, I didn't bother moving. I looked up slightly as Mumbo's voice called, "Grian?"

I sighed and didn't respond, leaving him to find me on his own. He soon came around the corner and saw me. "Grian?" he said, confusion on his face.

I still didn't respond, hoping he would think I was asleep and leave. He didn't. Mumbo came closer and saw the bandages on my shoulder through the neck hole of my loose sweater. His hands flew to his mouth. "Oh my word," he exclaimed before running over to me.

I let out a sigh and sat up, revealing I was awake. "Hi, Mumbo," I said, my voice filled with exhaustion. When Mumbo saw how tired I looked, the surprise in his eyes was replaced with worry.

"Grian," he began as he sat beside me. "What happened?"

I chuckled awkwardly and looked away. "I accidentally hurt myself while on a different server," I lied. He sighed quietly.

"Let me see," he stated. I reluctantly allowed Mumbo to pull off my red sweater, wincing as his eyes grew wider when he saw the bandages covering my body. Already, some of them were stained reddish.

"What did you do?!" he exclaimed. "No one can hurt themselves that badly by accident.'

I took back my red sweater and slipped it on. "Well, apparently I can," I responded.

He sighed at my lie. "Xisuma said he had to go to an Admin meeting earlier. Didn't Iskall say you were both a Watcher and an Admin...?" Mumbo's voice grew solemn as he mentioned our dead friend.

I looked away and sighed. "Yeah," I responded quietly. "I went to the Admin meeting and the Watchers attacked."

The concern in Mumbo's eyes only increased until he paused. "What are you Admin of?" he questioned, confusion showing in his voice.

I smiled weakly at my friend. (Grammarly wanted to autocorrect that to "mine friend..." YES, I SMILED WEAKLY AT MINE FRIEND.(dying of laughter over here lol))  "Nothing specific, I just went through the training and could start my own server if I wanted," I answered.

The confusion in his eyes died down and he nodded. He placed his arm around me as he said, "You need to sleep."

I sighed and nodded. "Could you make sure Xisuma is okay? I never got a chance to see how he was doing," I asked.

He smiled a bit and nodded. "I can do that. Now you just rest. You deserve it."

He stood up and I laid back down on the bed, my eyelids heavy. The last thing I heard before drifting off was the sound of Mumbo's rockets as he flew out of my base.

~POV CHANGE~

I realized as I flew to the Shopping District nether portal that I could've just used Grian's. Well, too late. I landed and stepped inside the portal.

Once inside the Nether Hub, I headed over to Xisuma's portal and went inside. After the purple particles subsided, I called, "Xisuma?"

I heard the sound of someone fumbling for something and turned the corner to see Xisuma barely managing to get his helmet on over brown hair. His green armor was off and he was wearing a white tank top and faded dark blue jeans. I could see bandages covering multiple parts of his body. He was turned away from me so I didn't see his face.

He turned to me and awkwardly waved. "Hey Mumbo, what can I do for you?" he asked, trying to hide the fact that he was embarrassed.

"Grian asked if I could check on you after the attack on the HQ," I responded quietly, walking over to him. I decided not to mention that I had seen what hair color he had.

He dropped his friendly facade and looked away. "I'm fine," he insisted.

My eyebrows furrowed in concern as I stood beside him. "What happened?" I quietly questioned.

He let out a sigh and wrapped his arms around himself in a hug. "EX was there..." he softly responded.

I immediately knew why he was so quiet. "How is he?" I responded.

He looked up and met my gaze with sadness, guilt, and regret swimming in his eyes. "The Watchers have complete control over him. Last I saw of him he was flying back to the Watcher portal." He glanced away. "He's not my brother anymore," he added quietly.

Since I was an absolute spoon, I wasn't sure how to respond. So, I just gently rubbed his back, hoping it was actually comforting.

After a bit of me trying to comfort him, he looked up at me. "I'll be fine," he stated quietly.

I smiled slightly and nodded. "Let me know if you want to talk," I quietly told him.

He nodded. If he smiled, I didn't see it. "Thanks," he responded.

I lowered my hand and returned it to my side. "See ya," I said friendlily.

He nodded slightly, responding, "See ya."

I turned and headed back to the portal. However, I paused as I reached it and glanced back at the Admin. His back was turned to me once more and he was hugging himself in an attempt to comfort himself.

I'm sorry I can't help you, X, I thought wistfully.

I turned to the portal and entered it. The purple particles swirled around me and I was in the nether once more. I returned to my base and looked around. It seemed almost empty without all the chickens that Gria- I mean, Poultry Man put inside my base.

I sighed as I remembered why he hadn't been around. Tears came to my eyes as I remembered the sight of Iskall, dead on the ground. For some reason, Grian didn't want to bury him yet. Apparently, Admins, Watchers, and Listeners didn't decompose like Players did so that meant that his body would be fine for a while. We went with it and just left Iskall peacefully lying on his bed like he was asleep. However, we all knew what really happened.

I wiped away the tears and went about my business. However, the tears continued to return and I just had to sit down on my bed as I tried to stop thinking about my dead best friend.

(2852 words or so)

(Make sure to remember the thing with Iskall's body not decomposing, it'll come back later. And yes, that is a hint c;<)

(I almost wrote that EX got captured by the Admins, buuuuut I remembered a plan I have that requires him to still be a Watcher later so yeah, he got away XD)

(Hope you enjoyed, bye~!)
