My Secret.
Janet's P. O. V
"Shh! can you like, not make so much noise? My sister is going to wake up and we are going to be in deep trouble," I whisper to Diane who is currently hanging from a pipe outside, near my window. In another situation, I would have probably laughed my ass off but now was not the time. She looks like a red haired star fish stuck to the wall. Her one leg is on the pipe and the other on my window sill. She is kicking the pipe too much in an attempt to push herself up and making enough noise to wake the entire neighbourhood up, which I so don't want.
"You know it would be really nice if you would help me here," Diane whispers and I chuckle but give her my hand anyway. She puts her hand in mine and I hold it in a strong grip. I pull her and she pushes herself a little. She comes up halfway, with her stomach on the sill. She brings her legs up and jumps in.
We both slide down, our backs scraping the wall and sit with our legs outstretched in front of us, taking calming breaths.
"I wonder how those guys in romance novels and movies do this all the time and make it look so damn easy!" Diane whispers and I chuckle.
"You know what's even more fascinating?" I ask her and she gives me a sideways glance, gesturing me to continue.
"The fact that a famous dance group member with increasing fans is secretly climbing up pipes to get to a normal girl's house," I say as a matter of fact and she simply chuckles.
"You're not normal girl Janet, I'm climbing up pipes for my secret choreographer who is a very big part of the success I'm enjoying today," she counters and I let out a sigh, "And all this because you simply don't want to come up and take credit for your work," she crosses her arms like a five year old and I jut my tongue out in reply.
Though I know she is right. Diane is part of a famous dance group called Groove to the beat who were in need of a choreographer after their choreographer, who is a friend of mine, got her spine fractured. Alice asked me to step in and I agreed, thinking it would be a one-time thing, but I was wrong. Alice's spine got fractured so badly, that doctor's advised her to not dance for the rest of her life.
Alice asked me to become their permanent choreographer, at least till they find a new one and I agreed because I owed her. She had kept my secret love for dance under wraps. Even Kiara, who is my cousin, doesn't know about it.
They know I enjoy watching a good dance performance, but they are not aware that I can actually dance. I met Alice at one such dance program, where she caught me dancing inside the washroom. She did not reveal it to any one and our friendship grew.
So that's how I ended up being their choreographer. The outside world, including my cousin, who is a big fan of Diane's dance group, know they have a fill in choreographer. They only just don't know who.
"You know, you shouldn't come like this to meet me. The media is constantly trying to track your secret dance teacher and if they catch you climbing pipes like this, it's not going to end well," I tell her and she simply rolls her eyes.
"Why can't you just reveal your identity?" she asks me and I run a hand down my face.
"I have told you-" I start but she cuts me off.
"Yeah I know, you want to live a normal teenage life and pursue a career with no paparazzi running behind you, you are not sure about this and all of that same old crap," she rambles and frown at her.
"I can't help it Diane, I'm just really scared," I tell her while staring at my turquoise blue walls and she nods.
"I understand that. What I don't understand is, why you are not telling Kiara and her parents. Is it because they are not your parents?" she asks me and I shake my head rapidly in denial.
"Of course not! My aunt and uncle have raised me like their own since I lost my parents when I was 2. To me, they are my parents. It's just that I'm scared about how they will react. Initially I had not told them because I was shy. Now this secret choreography along with the whole sneaking around lie has just built up. Now, if I tell them, they will want me make some serious decisions in life. Like career choice and stuff and I don't think I'm ready to do that." She raises her hands up in surrender, telling me to stop.
"Fine, okay I get it. Now, give me the routine and I'll leave," I get up and hand over the pen-drive which has the video of the dance steps and actions, recorded. She gets up and moves towards the door when I stop her.
"My aunt is already awake. You go the same way you came in," I tell and she gapes at me.
"You have got to be kidding me..." she sighs and moves towards the window and I smile sympathetically at her.
"Janet."
Kiara's voice makes my body go numb. Adrenaline rushes in full force through my entire body and my breathing quickens. Diane and I share a horrified look before she rushes to the window and Kiara starts knocking on the door.
"I'm in the washroom, just give me a minute," I scream while Diane climbs down the pipe hurriedly. She reaches down and is about to step on the ground when she loses her balance and falls flat on her ass. She yelps and I cover my mouth to contain my laughter.
"How much time are you going to take Janet? Just get out already!" Kiara screams from outside and I wave Diane goodbye before rushing towards the door.
"What the hell is your problem? Why are you banging my door early in the morning?" I half yell at Kiara who is standing with her hands on her hips. She is wearing a minion loose t-shirt with minion shorts which she robbed from me and never returned.
"It's the first day of senior year Janet Samuels. I'm here to decide what you wear," she reasons while examining her nails and I raise my eyebrow at her.
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Okay fine!" she yells and stomps her foot down. Her lips have formed a grim line and her nose is flaring. I give her the sickening sweet smile.
"Gosh, you're so stubborn." she comments and I smirk.
"My cousin's behaviour is rubbing of on me," I push her buttons further and she rolls her eyes.
There is nothing normal about our friendship. Sarcasm is our language. We call each other names. We make jokes on each other, insulting each other in the process. The only one thing normal about our friendship is the possessiveness. You lay a finger on one of us and the other half will make sure you pay for it.
"Okay fine, I won't force you into a dress. But you have to wear something nice. Don't forget, today is the first day of senior year and also the student council elections. You have to beat Selena's ass and you have to look good while doing it," she warns me and I stomp my foot, raise my hand in salute before she turns around and walks off towards her room which is on the opposite side.
I close the door and take a deep breath. This is already an adventurous morning with Diane and Kiara almost clashing. And the day has just begun...
