O N E
I sighed as I softly pushed down on my suitcase making a small click sound. "You're going to love it there sweetie.." I hear Patricia quietly say from behind me.
I pull up the suitcase off of the bed as I turn to her. "I.. Just wish you told me.." I say with a sad smile.
She sighs as she pushes herself off of the door frame and walks over to me. "I know. But.. There wasn't much time, I had to enroll you before they stopped taking in enrollees." She sounded slightly hesistated to explain.
I nodded forcing up a smile on my face. "I understand."
The sides of her eyes crinkle as she smiles. "I'm glad you do.. You'll thank me when you get home." She adds the last part patting me on the shoulder.
She looks around my room and her smile falters when she sees almost everything was gone. "When I said you had a dorm over at campus I didn't mean you were.. permanently going to move there." She jokes with a laugh, I could tell it was forced.
I chuckle. "Yeah.. I just thought I might need everything."
She clears her throat as she turns back to me. "Well, I actually went up to say that the carriage has been waiting." She says tilting her head to the window.
My brows furrow in confusion as I run up to the window. "Where did you enroll me to?" I ask narrowing my eyes at the grey carriage in front of our house.
"You'll see when you get there." She says as I glance at her. "I hear their horses are fast." She adds with a smile as I finally step away from the window.
I rush and pick up my suitcases, I stumble down the stairs with Patricia calling from behind me. I carefully drop the suitcases as I turn the door knob, I push open the door and stare in awe as I come up close to the Carriage. I hear Patricia laugh from behind me. "Excited aren't we?" She says.
I smile and pick my bags up again. "Really.. Why's there a carriage?"
She shakes her head with a laugh. "Again, you'll see. You better get in now, the coach's getting impatient." Patricia says tilting her head towards the coach who was staring at us with an emotionless expression.
I nod with a giggle, I push open the doors and lay my suitcases underneath the seats before taking a step inside. I breath out as I push myself up and settle down on the grey cushioned seats. I peek out the windows to see Patricia waving frantically with a wide smile, I smile back before yelping as the carriage suddenly jolts to life moving forward a bit too fast. I stick my head out the window to give one last final wave to my adoptive mother, and the house I lived in my whole life. Who knows how long I'll stay at the campus.. I sit back down properly, letting the window curtains cover the view of outside. "Good morning." I hear a small voice say from beside me.
I jump in my seat as I whip my head around, my eyes widening in shock. The voice belonged to a small creature.. Not like any creature I've seen at all, which makes me question where did Patricia send me to. I keep quiet, too shocked to make my vocal chords work. The small creature possesed female features and had tiny wings attached to it's back, helping them to fly up to my eye level. Her tiny brows furrow, "Is something wrong?" She asks.
I clear my throat, slowly letting the sight in front of me sink in. "Uh.. No." I reply, not taking my eyes off the small creature, which actually reminded me of the little fairy in Peter Pan.. Maybe she is a fairy?
She nods, looking down at a tiny checklist she was hugging against her chest. "Okay. Let's see.." She whispers to herself.
"Wh.. What are you?" I blurt out.
Her head snaps up at me, making my eyes widen a bit. I'm a bit ashamed to say that I'm actually, kind of intimidated by the little creature, although she wasn't trying to be. "That's odd.." She says narrowing her eyes at me.
"Mark, are you sure we picked up the right girl?" She asks, flying over to a curtained window that was behind the coach.
There was no reply, but the lttle creature nodded as if she heard something. "Yeah, you're right.." she mutters.
I awkwardly sit there as she looks down again at her checklist. "Uh-" I start.
"It was the right address.." She says, a bit unsure. I awkwardly sit beside her as she flips through the pages of her checklist. I scoot closer to the window and pull open the curtains to see where we were, and because I was kind of feeling doozy. I watch as we whip past trees going a bit fast along a stone path in the middle of the forest. From what I remember, There weren't any forests close to our city, how did we get to one in a matter of minutes?
"Might as well introduce myself while we wait to arrive." She says with a sigh before looking up at me with a smile. I awkwardly smile back, waiting for her to say something.
"Good morning, again. My name is Jadie, one of the Fairy guides." She says holding her tiny hand out, I stare at it not knowing what to do since even my finger was bigger than her hands.
She smiles and retracts her hand. "So you are a Fairy.." I mutter in fascination, I knew they existed- everyone knew. She raises a brow as I stare at her with sparkles in my eyes, "Ok.." She awkwardly says slowly backing- or rather, flying away from me.
She clears her throat. "Yes.. And, well a Fairy guide's duty is to guide you. In my case, I'm supposed to answer all your questions as we wait to arrive." She explains.
"Oh.. So can you tell me, where are we going?" I ask.
"I thought Tricia already told you.. But, we're heading to Confict High. The school you're going to study in, for.. Who knows how long." She says with a slight shrug at the end.
"What do you mean, Who knows how long?"
"Well.. Basically, you only get to leave once you master your Legend." She explains.
"Wait- What if I never master my 'Legend'" I ask making air quotes.
"Then you'll never get to leave." She answers with a shrug.
"What? What kind of school am I going to study in?" I frantically ask, kind of worried. I was once excited, but now I just wanted to jump out the carriage.
"You'll know in orientation. Trust me, you'll love it there! And, remember Confict High's not like any school." She says just as the carraige jerked to a stop.
"Oohf'" I slid off my seat and ended up falling face-first into the wall in front of me.
Jadie giggles from behind me as I try to push myself up. "Are you alright?" She asks flying over to me.
I sit back on my seat trying to recover myself. "Yeah.. Just a bit dizzy." I answer flinching as I rub my forehead. 'That's gonna leave a bruise..'
"Ok. We've arrived, one of the SCG's will greet you at the entrance. They'll know what to do from there." Jadie says pushing open the carriage doors.
I nod and pick up my suitcases stepping out. "Let's go Mark, and can you please be more gentle? We don't want all the new Conficts with bruises on their foreheads." Jadie scolds.
I chuckle and drop the suitcases again, feeling my arms ache from the weight. I look up and my eyes widen as I see how big the school is. I've never seen a school as big as this, heck- I've never seen a school before.. I was actually homeschooled, so to say I'm nervous is an understatement. "Woah.." I whisper as I stare in awe.
"Welcome." A voice snaps me out of my trance. I look in front of me and see a girl with snow white hair and a boy with pointy elf-like ears, the girl whispered something to the boy with an amused smile.
I blush in embarrassment. 'How long have they been standing there?' I thought as I shoot them a nervous smile.
The boy's chuckles were muffled by the scarf covering his mouth. "Typical." The girl mutters raising a brow at me.
"Hello.." I awkwardly say giving them a small wave.
The girl nods in response, "We're the SCG's assigned to guide you to your dorm." She explains.
"We're actually running kind of late.. Because of," She says before pausing. "Are you ready to go?" She continues not bothering to continue the sentence.
I nod as I pick up my suitcases again walking up to them. The girl turns and starts walking towards the huge entrance, I walk beside the boy as I catched up to them. "Need any help?" I hear the boy's muffled voice ask, glancing at me.
"I got it." I reply with a small smile. "I insist." He says taking my suitcases from me, he holds them for a moment before dark clouds started to cover them from view.
My eyes widen as they disappear in a blink of an eye, I see the girl roll her eyes from my peripheral. "Wh.. What was that?" I whisper staring at the place where my suitcases use to be.
"Object teleportation." The girl answers for the boy. I slowly nod, taking the small bit of information in.
"How the hell did you do that?" I quietly ask, looking up at the boy.
He raises a brow at me in response, he shrugs as second later. 'Guess he isn't much of a talker.' I thought.
"Tell me.. What kind of school is this? What's with all the.. Fantasy stuff?" I ask the two, curious of what I've been witnessing all day.
"Save questions for later." The girl says as she stops in front of two doors, almost as big as the entrance's "This is where you'll be staying, you'll be rooming with seven other students." She says as she flicks her hand, causing the door to magically open.
The boy rolls her eyes at the girl just as she did when he used 'Magic'. "To lazy to open the door?" He mocks.
The girl doesn't say anything and turns to me. "Your suitcases are already on your bed, thanks to elf boy." She says gesturing to the boy.
I nod in response glancing inside the room. "The chime will ring in a few minutes for lunch, there you can meet old and new Conficts, socialize and.. Eat." The boy says.
"Okay.. Are there already some inside?" I ask tilting my head towards the room.
"Yes, mostly old Conficts. They've claim most of the beds on the mezzanine though." The girl says. "We better get going. See you later." She says turning on her heel and walking away, the boy nods at me before following after the girl with his hands in his pockets.
I breath in and enter the room, jumping in shock as the door slams behind me. The room was octagonal in shape, and the walls were designed to look like the galaxy. There were three unoccupied beds with dark blue sheets and two white pillows, beside them were bedside tables with a lamp and some other stuff. I look up and notice the mezzanine the girl mentioned earlier, there were gold railings designed with colorful flowers going along the edge. I climb up the stairs that were beside me, sure that they led up. The mezzanine had four beds, and one of them had three people chatting, not noticing me. I leave them be and look up, noticing the big floating sun with planets and stars slowly rotating and revolving around it, the mini solar system seemed to act as the light of the room.
"Hey." I hear a voice say as the chattering suddenly stopped.
