XXXV: Rooftop View.
I was beside myself. It was the weekend and Andrew was taking me on our official first date as a couple. Just thinking about it made my heart flutter with butterflies, especially when he refused to tell me where. Dressing myself up, I didn't want to look too girly but at the same time be as breathtaking as possible. Personally, I don't think anything is going to top me being in his shirt though.
Trying on my casual pale pink summer dress that almost matched my hair, I stood in the mirror and checked myself. My dress buttoned up in the front and bonus, it had pockets! Nice, deep pockets and not that fake crap you find nowadays when buying jeans. It was sleeveless so a cardigan will definitely be worn.
Opening my door Evelyn welcomed herself right in with Cheddars on her shoulders as she began going through my drawers. "Wear these," She instructed, throwing a pair of black stockings at me.
"I don't need these I'm going to have leggings under the dress."
"No." Evelyn shook her head. "They're better."
"Yeah, if I just want to keep my legs warm." I rolled my eyes are here, "It's going to cool down later."
"You will have him for warmth," she grinned, "Trust me, if you were leggings I fear he will have difficulty finding your vagina. Plus you'll be colder when he eventually pulls them down in frustration."
"Seriously woman."
"You failed me three times with fashion advice that could get you laid." Evelyn pointed at me, "You're not allowed to say no this time."
"Fine..." I caved, picking up the stockings, "...witch."
Evelyn's eyes narrowed, "Virgin."
I wore them, as forcefully instructed and didn't find them half bad. I thought I would look ridiculous like some Japanese schoolgirl, but they came all the way up around my hips and my dress stopped at my knees. Plus, as hard as it was to admit, they were extremely comfortable.
Meeting back at Andrew's place, I caught him coming out of his apartment, throwing his leather jacket on and locking the door. He smiled when he saw me and without warning pulled me into an embrace, lips crashing.
"You look beautiful as ever," He cooed.
Yep, that was it. I wasn't going to make it far enough into this date to even eat without wilting under his gaze. "Thank you," I managed to say when his lips finally pulled away from me.
With a devious looked he pulled something out of his pocket and wrapped it around my face. "No," I gasped as a black veil hugged my eyes from everything. "Not this again."
"Yes, this again."
"I really hate you," I whined as he took each of my hands.
"Now walk,"
I had quickly lost my train of thought along with the map I've made from memory. We never left his apartment complex but rather went upwards. Stairs after stairs and every time I tried to ask him anything about where we were going. The sound of metal screeched as he opened a door and a cool breeze rushed through the fabric of my dress, causing me to shake.
Andrew pulled me a few steps more before lifting the blindfold, We were on the rooftop, and in front of me was the city of San Francisco. I could see the ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge flickering with lights as busy traffic clustered her length. Although the sky was cloudy and dim, the sun managed to push beyond it and paint the skit with various colors are red and gold. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Near the corner of the roof where a glass top table and two chairs dressed nicely for a date night. With a string of small lanterns and lights hanging around.
"This was the old party seating area, there's a greenhouse back that way and even a cookout and games station." Andrew explained, "Even though the roof is shut off to tenants due to construction, I was able to work something out with Jerry in maintenance. We get four hours."
"Oh my god," I gasped, this was all too much. "Did you do all of this?"
Taking my hand he walked me to my seat and pulled out the chair. Easing down into his chair Andrew reached over and pulled out a box from his thermal bag and opened it. "Our luxury for the night."
I threw my head back and laughed, "Pizza! Oh, I love it!"
"I figured it was perfect for a first date."
"And what are we filling these with?" I asked as I picked my wine glass.
Feeling quite proud of himself, Andrew lifted the lid of the metal container sitting on our table to reveal red wine. This afternoon just couldn't get any better, but it did.
We sat across from each other as we ate and talked about our lives when we were younger. I realized there was a whole side of him I didn't know and was dying to tap into, but he never wanted to press on memories before entering the military. His childhood was completely hidden from me. I could tell by the look in his eyes that it wasn't a pleasant one and certain thoughts brought back terrible memories so instead, I told him about my own.
Soon after, the conversation turned into verbal jousting and pop quizzes about our lives. In the past, we just hung out and enjoyed the company of the other, but now as we watched the sun fade over the city we were actually getting to know one another. He was deeper than what he makes himself out to be and I could feel that.
At one point he slid his chair to the side before gripping the bottom of my seat to join at his hip. He took a blanket that was sitting on the spare chair next to use, something he brought up beforehand, and threw it over us. Wrapping his arm around me we drank red wine and looked out at the city as sparkled with lights.
After a while, even talking just stopped. With his shoulder around my chair, I rested my head against his chest and listened to him breathe while his heartbeat at its tune. One of his fingers twirled a lock of my hair, watching as it's pink hue fade more and my natural brunette blend together. I felt him nuzzle against my scalp as he gently places a kiss on my head.
I could stay like this forever and just fall asleep leaning against him, but the coolness against my legs was beginning to overpower me. The cloud cluster closer and darker and the wind was slowly but gradually picking up.
"It's supposed to rain tonight," I said, looking up at the sky.
"Only like thirty-two percent." Andrew shrugged.
"That's still something," I nudged his chin with my nose, "Are you going to be alright?"
"Yeah, the rain doesn't bother me. I'm just not overly fond of what follows it."
"Maybe we should head inside."
"Just a couple more minutes." Andrew sighed. Lifting my chin his lips carefully graze over mine, giving my lower lip small touchable pecks. Every time our lips touched it was like the very first time over again. I could feel that heat, that electricity passing through him into me, always bursting but never going out.
He was pulling me closer as a huge gust of wind rushed by so strong it began knocking things over around us.
"Whelp, that's our cue," Andrew said playfully jumping up.
Taking my hand I quickly helped him gather everything and throw away whatever wasn't needed. I wrapped myself in the blanket as the wind went from warning gusts to a full-on hurricane. Holding the wine bottle Andrew opened the roof door and looked back at me struggling. He extended his hand to me and propped the door open with his heel, unfortunately, he lost grip and the wind flung the door inwards, smacking away the break that was holding it open.
"Fuck!" he cursed.
"What's wrong?"
Andrew yanked on the door, "That break was the only thing holding the door open."
"Are you serious!" I freaked, "What about the maintenance guy? He should be making his round as you mentioned. How long do we have?"
Andrew looked at his watch, "About an hour."
With the wind, soon came the rain... and it was pouring.
I squealed and pulled the blanket over my head as huge cold drops of rain came rushing down to assault us. Andrew move quickly, snatching me up and throwing me over his shoulder he scanned the rooftop from another way in. When he failed, he turned the corner and broke the lock off the small green house and pulled us inside, wedging the door shut from the wind.
Our glass shelter held its own against the raging rain. The wind whistled through the smallest of openings but not once did it breach the structure of the greenhouse. Looking at each other, now hopelessly wet, we shared a laugh and made fun of the outcome.
"Well, there's your thirty-two percent smart ass." I teased him.
For once he had no comeback or no snarky comment, he just looked outside with the utmost disappointment on his face.
Ah yes, when it rains, it pours. Their time together isn't over just yet! Part two is on it's way! Will the soft beating of rain heat things up? Or will the coming storm be too much for a certain individual?
I was able to pop this one out just in time for bed, so you guys will have to suffer until Tuesday when I'm off from work for the second half - muwahaha.
