XXII: Witches Brew

The remainder of that day was one of the quietest days I've ever experienced with someone. After talking him into a bath, I helped Andrew fixed the holes in his walls. I kept up with my usual happy behavior and told him about some of the more humorous sides of my childhood. Embarrassing moments in middle school, how I met my friends, my blossoming love for arts and crafts, I talked about anything and everything to pull him away from his dark thoughts.

Andrew seemed intrigued. I got a smile or two out of him, he cracked jokes and shared his own tales but nothing on his usual scale of exciting. The exhaust had taken him over and his whole spirit just seemed to drain from his body. It worried me, still refused to say or mention anything.

It wasn't until it was time for me to leave that I saw a desperate wanting in his eyes...and fear. Using all of my power, for what it's worth, I pulled him down by his shirt and kissed his cheek. I made a promise I would come back, and we would continue to work my way down my list of self-discovery.

Today was going to be a new day for me on a personal level. Today I would be meeting up with Keiko since my outburst at the party. Jasmine and I have had our spats in the past, leaving poor Keiko, our lonely dove trapped in the middle and I hated that. Keiko was Jasmine's friend since middle school, I came later in high school, this naturally gives her the selection of the longest friend.

Because of this, Jasmine expects always to be chosen when we argue. I didn't find that fair, nor did I find it okay to place Keiko with such a choice. To make up to her, it was me who would be buying her goodies and spoiling her for the day–without talking about Jasmine. She loved her like a sister and I will not tarnish that.

We kicked off the day with some shopping. Nothing real fancy or glamorous, no, Keiko enjoyed finding odd things at thrift stores and antiques. They were hidden treasures to her, trinkets with a past life just waiting to be told. I found a treasure as well, a certified VPK. One of the first Kodak pocket cameras of its kind. Created and released the very same year the Titanic took its maiden voyage that ultimately lead to its icy grave. I have such a haunting obsession with that particular tragedy and was always drawn to such.

More importantly, this trinket reminded me of Andrew. It was a soldier's camera, after all, use to capture moments of warfare yet small enough to wear on a person. I doubt it even worked anymore, such a camera went extinct decades ago. Still, would make a beautiful collection. It was pricey, but worth the sacrifice in my opinion. Keiko on the other hand found some beautiful hairpins and crystal jewelry. That girl was all about the shinnies.

Next up, Spa day. Hitting Keiko's favorite nail salon, both of us enjoyed a foot massage while picking out our next nail color. I wasn't too keen on the craft and never really pampered myself in such ways, I only got my nails done when I was with someone else who really enjoys it. I took hold of the wonderful holiday approaching and went with a beautiful lushest violet called Poison Claw. Seemed most appropriate. Feeling nearly a hundred times better, I was checking my texts from Riley when Keiko fluttered her fingers in my face. "Look at my beautiful nails." She sang.

She chose a beautiful ocean blue with tints of green, her favorite colors.

"Yes," I said, taking in her bits of glitter, "Very shiny and very you."

Our chatter was interrupted when my phone went off, this time someone was video calling. This has never happened before, least to say I barely even used my phone for actual conversations. Answering my own curiosity I was surprised to witness who was on the other line.

"Andrew?" I said shocked as well as amused by this sudden interaction. Andrew was soaking wet leaning against the porcelain tub with his hair push behind his ears, revealing the purple earbuds. "What the hell are you doing? Are you actually calling me while taking a bath?"

"Whose taking a bath?" Keiko said curiously leaning into my shoulder for a better view.

Andrew held up the small I-pod, immediately I recognized it as mine. "I'm re-really shocked at taste in music here pinky. Who knew you liked Frank Sinatra?"

"What are you doing with my I-pod? " I must have left it at his place, somehow. "You can't go through a girl's playlist... That's like going through her diary."

"Well consider your secrets revealed." Andrew smiled wide, "I'm enjoying it."

I was glad that he was feeling like his old self again but there was something way off. His cheeks were flush by what I thought was from relaxing in his bubble bath he had conjured but the fullness in his eyes told me something else.

"Are you drunk right now?"

Andrew snickered and put a finger over his lips in secret, tilting the phone out and showing more of himself in the bathtub. The tub was a deep classic claw style, there was a bottle of red Witches Brew wine sitting on the edge behind him. The dark purple glass of the now empty bottle looked elegant against the grey painted walls. The more I looked the more I noticed the surrounding did not belong to him. My heartbeat picked it up a notch as my mind began to panic.

"Oh my god, Andrew..." I threw my hand over my mouth, gazing into the phone. "Are you in my house? You're in my tub! In MY house!"

He continued to mumble and slur as he reached over and looked at the wine bottle. "Yu- you know...this stuff ain't have bad."

"Andrew that was Evelyn's bottle, and she was saving that! She's going to kill me." Suddenly he disconnected. "Andrew? Andrew!.....oh hell we gotta get home."

I turned to Keiko and began dialing Evelyn's cell phone number. "Look me up the nearest spirits store that carries witches brew." My roommate's cell phone rang only a few times before going to voicemail, the second I was given the chance I spoke at lightning speed. "Evelyn! I don't know if you and your sister are hanging out on the balcony or in your room but whatever you do don't go in the bathroom until I get there! Ahead of time, I am so so sorry I am on my way, please don't call the cops!"

Keiko was able to score a location just a few blocks from where we stood. Not even bothering with a bus, we rushed to the liquor store to grab another bottle of Witches Brew. There were three of the same bottles with different colored labeling, not sure if that meant anything or not but just in case I bought one of each.

The store clerk tagged me for I.D naturally because I'm cursed with looking like a twelve-year-old. Then he looked at us like we were going to have one hell of a party. Keiko blindly shared my panic and rushed by me with the bottles of wine secure in her bag. I never went through my own gate so fast before you would have thought I was being chased by a murderer.

Opening the door I nearly screamed. There was Andrew, unconscious, naked, and rolled in a blanket burrito in the middle of the living room floor. Crouched down next to him were Evelyn and her twin sister.

"Please don't tell me you've prepped, spiced, and sacrificed him to the Samhain God."

"No," Evelyn spoke softly. Taking her fingers and gently stroking him while her sister played with his hair. "I sensed we had some unannounced company and received your voicemail too late to react properly."

"Oh God, What did he do?" I asked worriedly.

"Well, after his rather amusing time in our bathtub, he roamed the house naked singing don't stop believing by journey..." Evelyn noted.

"It was very off-key," Her sister added, "But he knew every word."

"...He asked for you a lot, tried to eat the pouperie on the table, changed back into his clothes in the middle of the kitchen...for like an hour. Oh, and screamed really loud when he saw us."

I exhaled and slumped down to the floor on the other side of them, rubbing his back as he lay practically face down into the carpet. Keiko lowered to her knees and joined in on touching his face in hair.

"I don't think he realized other people lived here." her sister added again, "He got really confused and freaked out when he saw there were two of us, he thought we were ghosts."

"I am so sorry," I apologized repeatedly. "He's harmless I swear and I had no idea he was coming over."

Evelyn shrugged, still playing with his hair. "It's nothing. I actually found his company enjoyable and his anatomy very pleasing to look at. Will he be visiting us often?"

"Indeed," Her sister smiled big. Reaching over he extended her to me. "My name is Elena."

"Cora." I smiled at her, "This is my friend Keiko."

We shared our introductions over Andrew's body and talked for a bit about the rather large elephant in the room. They loomed and studied him like a piece of treasure, I found it very entertaining that acted as they've never seen a man before. I even had to smack Keiko's hand when she tried to sneak a peek under the blanket.

Eventually, they left the floor and took the kitchen were they got snacks and fixed...you guessed it...tea. I stayed on the floor next to Andrew and continued to rub his back while taking my turn to push back his hair. I couldn't help but smile at him. I've never seen him like this before, did he really miss me that much? Or was he afraid of losing me after his episode?

"Andrew," I whispered, "Come on, let's get you to my bed okay? You can sleep this off."

Andrew groaned and nuzzled his face into the carpet. Standing up I pulled on his arm and moved him enough to where he finally got annoyed and opened his eyes.

"What are you doing here?" He groaned, rolling over onto his back.

"I live here," I hissed at him as I pulled him into a sitting position. "Now come on before you get raped by witches."

I do enjoy writing Andrew, I knew I would from the beginning but thinking about the scenes and actually getting them out....so satisfying.

Good to see that introductions have been made between the witches. Who is your favorite character thus far and why?
