twenty seven

Swatting away a fly that was buzzing in her face, Nila walked along towards the toilet.

Getting any time alone was not easy.

There were people downstairs who had ignored her for years, and now that she was engaged everyone wanted to speak to her.

Engaged. That was going to take some time to sink in.

"It's disgusting." A voice said.

Nila stopped, then etched closer slowly to the room from which her fiance's voice had come from.

"Do you want me to get rid of them?" Another person said.

"No, Nila will kick up a fuss about it." Amjad said. "These f**gs are ruining my engagement."

As soon as those words left his mouth, Nila felt a load of bile rise up her throat. They were talking about Mark and James, her gay friends from sixth form.

She'd sensed that Amjad was not comfortable with gay people, and hoped it was just uneasiness from not mixing with them.

But this was just blantant homophobia.

And Nila couldn't marry a homophobe.

HOMOPHOBIA IS DISGUSTING, and if you support it you've got a problem.
