thirty-one

She made it through the first few operations, then the next few.

Now her body lay on a hospital bed, head to neck bandaged, waist length hair now snipped off in a small bird's nest.

It was Bilal on duty again when Mikhail arrived again at the hospital.

The first time most of the family was there. The second it was her parents.

"Hey man." Bilal said, with a sad smile.

Mikhail greeted him back. "You ok? Where's Saba bhabi?"

"With the baby, she needs the rest man." Bilal said.

Mikhail nodded in agreement, considering how shit he felt, the family must have had it worse.

"Hey, umm, any chance Amjad might visit any time soon?" Bilal said. "Only that he was- or is- her fiancee and we don't why she left the venue but he should come, like, you know."

It was obvious Bilal was not comfortable to be talking about his best friend with his younger brother, much less about this. They were close, but ever since the engangement party Amjad refused to answer his calls.

"No, you're right." Mikhail said. "It's just, my parents cover up for his tantrums and butter him up so he gets away with things, so I can't get through to him."

This was nothing Bilal didn't know.

Amjad had always been a bit spoilt, and that hadn't bothered Mikhail until today.

Letting him ponder over his anger whilst his fiancee lay in hospital was just too far, he couldn't accept his brother's or parent's attitude any longer.

It was time to face up to his brother.

Long time guys, sorry but I had exams and they're over now. Inshallah i passed.
