Chapter Twelve: Dancing Sun
Ama's POV-
"Why do I feel like those two will never get along," I hear Momo say with a sad smile, taking her place beside me.
"I can't say anything for Bakugo, but my sister doesn't really dislike anybody," I reply, letting out a soft sigh. "She's always been one to make friends easily, so she probably just enjoys messing with the hedgehog."
The blonde in question is still fuming, Kaminari doing his best to keep him from storming after Zai and her group. The rest of us are silent as the match before us is finally wrapping up, the time for our match drawing ever closer.
I stand outside of the building with Tokoyami and Tsuyu, feeling my heart race in my chest. Don't get me wrong, I like combat training and everything. But I have to play the part of a hero, while my sister is in there with her group as villains.
I was hoping we would end up on the same team, but I should have known that the chance of that happening would be slim to none.
I begin to wring my hands together as my teammates look over the floor plan we were given.
"The weapon was on a different floor each time, so we need to be extra careful to get through each floor as quickly as possible," Tsuyu says, a finger resting against her chin.
I do my best to pay attention as I keep my eyes on the building in front of us. My sister is in there somewhere.. I wish she was here with me instead.
I nearly jump as I feel a hand on my shoulder, and I look over to see Tokoyami giving me a confused look.
"Are you alright, Ama?" he asks, his eyes darting from my eyes to my hands and then down to my feet. "You look like you're about to be sick."
I didn't even realize I was also tapping my foot while they were examining the map, mentally cursing my anxiety for being so painfully obvious. "Y-yeah, I'm fine. Just nervous."
Tokoyami shakes his head, removing his hand from my shoulder. "If you say so. We should probably get going, we don't have much time."
I nod in agreement as Tsuyu puts the floor plan in whatever pocket she has in her hero suit. My nerves refuse to settle as we make our way into the building, and the sight before us is slightly appalling.
The entire hallway ahead of us is filled with tape, stretching from wall to wall in multiple directions. It's like one of those secret agent shows where the hero has to avoid laser beam traps to get to their objective.
"Sero might be trying to capture us from the beginning," Tsuyu says in a quiet tone. I notice that the gaps in between are so small, it would be nearly impossible to squeeze through.
"In that case, he may have done this on every floor," I reply, furrowing my brow. "What worries me more is that if this is the strategy they are going for, then my sister might be on this floor as well."
"It would be smart to hide in all of these traps, then use her quirk against us. But what if she knows we'd think that?" Tokoyami says as I create a small shield of light.
We also agreed that I should keep my quirk going as long as possible, since Tokoyami's Dark Shadow could go nuts if there isn't enough light to keep him at bay.
His quirk is basically a shadow monster that he can control, but the darker the space is the harder it is for him to contain the creature. He also said that his emotions can play a factor, if his friends get hurt then Dark Shadow could go on a rampage and completely take over.
"That would mean that Kirishima is left defending the weapon, unless Sero went back too."
The two stand behind me as we begin to push our way through, the tape sticking to it and coating the surface. My creations may be made of light, but my quirk makes them tangible as well.
It takes us a while to get through each floor, and we haven't run into anyone at all. "Maybe they're hoping for us to get captured by the traps, or slow us down enough that we run out of time." Tsuyu says quietly as I dissipate the seventh shield beside us, leaving a giant ball of tape on the ground as I make another.
"How much time do you think is left?" I ask, we're on the fourth floor as we speak.
"Five minutes at most," Tokoyami answers, furrowing his brow. "This doesn't look good."
I mentally groan, pushing us through some more tape with my shield. Another minute passes until we find an open door, leading into a room just as littered with tape. Only this time, the tape is more spread out, and easier to squeeze through.
"Well well, sister. You've finally arrived," I hear Zai's voice from the center of the room. I look over to find the three of them standing there with smirks on their faces. "Took you long enough."
"Would have been faster if it weren't for all the traps," I respond, eyeing the weapon beside them with a furrowed brow.
My sister shrugs as she flicks a strand of hair over her shoulder. "We are a lot smarter than you think, little sister. Question is... what are you going to do about it?" Tokoyami, Tsu and I look at each other before nodding in unison.
Let the best sister win.
I begin to bust through the tape in front of us with another shield, heading right for Zai with Tsuyu hot on my heels. My sister raises a hand in the air before suddenly disappearing from my field of view, Kirishima taking her place.
The tape in this room seems to be more reinforced than before, I think to myself as my shield becomes littered with it within seconds. I destroy it once again and let the ball of tape fall, Tokoyami taking the initiative and heading towards Sero with his dark shadow.
We don't have much time, so we have to make this victory quick. I nod to Tsuyu, who immediately makes her way towards the weapon. I see my sister behind Kirishima, and I make sure I still have some plugs in my ears to defend myself. He must be defending her, so I'll have to get through him first.
The first note rings in the air, thankfully muffled due to my earplugs.
O Death, O Death.
Won't you spare me over 'til another year?
"COVER YOUR EARS!" I call to the others, and both of them immediately raise their hands to block out the sound. Curse you sister, I think to myself. Won't this song hinder your team? It makes no sense to stay with them and use your quirk!
But then I notice pieces of white sticking in her teammates ears. Both of them grin as Sero launches himself at me, and I barely manage to dodge out of the way.
Well what is this that I can see?
With ice cold hands taking hold of me.
When God is gone and the Devil takes hold.
Who'll have mercy on my soul?
O Death, O Death, consider my age.
Please don't take me at this stage.
Of course my sister had a way to keep her teammates from being affected. How did I not see this coming?
A shocked cry pierces the air, and I look over to find Tokoyami stuck in the tape not far from the weapon. I watch as Tsu removes her hands from her ears, launching towards the wall so she can free him.
O, Death. O Death.
Won't you spare me over 'til another year?
"NO, DONT-" I call, but it's too late. Both of their eyes go wide before dulling to gray. Tsuyu falls to the floor, allowing Sero to wrap her up in his capture tape with ease.
O, I am death, and none can tell.
If I open the door to heaven or hell.
No wealth, no land, no silver no gold.
Nothing satisfies me but your soul.
I'm Death, I come to take the soul.
Leave the body and leave it cold.
"They're too strong.." I hear Tokoyami's hopeless voice from his position in the tape, his body completely limp. I grimace as I turn back to Kirishima, who has a shit eating grin on his face.
O, Death. O, Death.
Won't you spare me over 'til another year?
My sister's song continues to ring through the air, thankfully due to these earplugs I can fight off the feeling of hopelessness trying to take over. "Making them lose the will to fight, that's fighting dirty!" I cry, running towards her and Kirishima.
"All's fair in love and war, little sister!" Zai says with a cackle, and with each step she takes another note rings out through the room. "Do you really think villains are going to care about if their tactics are dirty or not?"
I wince as I realize she's right, before turning my attention to the red head in front of her. I can't get to her with him in my way, so time to batter my way through.
I rush headfirst towards Kirishima, jumping into the air as he crosses his arms in front of him. I spin to give myself more leverage and aim a heavy kick right towards his face. "Rolling... THUNDER!"
The special move I use in my soccer games, they typically go right through the goalie when I use it. Sadly I happen to be fighting a more defensive quirk user.
My leg hits his arms as he blocks with ease, and his eyes go wide in surprise once I hit the ground. My kick was powerful enough to knock him back a little, his feet sliding against the floor but unfortunately not by much.
Just as I aim to land another one I hear a loud ringing in my ear. "Time's up! The villain team wins!" All Might's voice throws me off, causing me to land on my butt from being stopped mid kick.
The music gradually lowers in volume, and our opponents cheer from their victory. I feel a hand on my shoulder, and look up to see Tsuyu and Tokoyami with sad smiles on their faces.
"Time simply wasn't on our side," Tokoyami says in a quiet tone. "You fought well, I wish we could have done more to help."
I merely frown, standing up and dusting off my knees. "We were merely unlucky. It won't happen again." I make my way out of the building, leaving the two of them behind as I fume on the inside. I underestimated my sister even after saying that she shouldn't be underestimated, I think to myself.
I let my knowledge of my sister inflate my pride just enough that I became too cocky. I made a fool of myself in front of my teammates, and in front of the entire class for that matter. Next time, sister.. I'll beat you, and I'll make up for this loss with a victory.
I promise.
This was my first time writing a fight scene like this, I'm sorry if it was kind of bad. I'll get better as the story goes on with more practice.
Fumikage Tokoyami - Quirk: Dark Shadow. As explained, he contains a dark monster within him named Dark Shadow! This powerful beast can tear apart anything it chooses, it's only weakness is light! The more light, the weaker it becomes! However, too much darkness makes it difficult to control!
Daily Quote: "Heroes and villains both thrive on violence, but we're still categorized. "You're good" "You're evil". That's how it is! Symbol of peace? Hah! In the end you're just a tool for violence, made to keep us down. And violence only breeds more violence." – Shigaraki Tomura
