Chapter Seven: Lunch With The Baku-squad
Turns out I will be sitting with Mina after all.
Bakugo leads me over to the table she's sitting at, along with a few other boys that I don't know. "Zai! About time, I didn't know you would be coming with Bakugo though."
"Oh shut up extra," The blonde says as he takes a seat behind a red haired boy, so I slide into the booth beside Mina.
"Why don't you can it, Boom Boom Boy?" I reply reaching into my bag for my lunch that Ama had helped me make. I'm pretty good with making raw food, like sushi or even fruit bouquets. But give me a frying pan and everything ends up burnt and on fire.
Ama however is a fucking genius at this stuff, so she helped out by making me some teriyaki to go with my lunch. I put the teriyaki into some rice balls, along with some eel and flying fish roe sushi. Of course I've got some salmon ones as well, and some strawberries on the side for some added vitamins.
What? I like to eat well and healthy, though I wouldn't turn down some chocolate or instant ramen either.
I hear the blonde running his mouth but tune him out, feeling my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pull it out to see a text from Ama, and I quickly open it up to answer. Shit, I probably should have found her first. Damn hedgehog motherfucker.
Ama:
>>Hey sis, where are you?
Zai:
Ah, I got asked to lunch by Mina, though I was gonna come find you to invite you. Then the angry Pomeranian practically dragged me after demanding for me to sit with him at lunch.<<
Ama:
>>Sounds eventful... I'm glad I didn't get to see that tbh. But how did he get you to go with him in the first place? I mean, you don't let people push you around like that normally.
Zai:
Turns out this table is where Mina was anyways, but of course I threatened his man junk at some point earlier. <<
Ama:
>>Of course you did. Why am I not surprised?
Zai:
Because it's ME, your beloved older sister that you love soooo much? <<
Ama:
>>Mm, nah that's not it.
>>I think it's because you do stupid shit all of the time. No wonder you were held back a year.
Zai:
So cruel!<<
Anyways, how did it go with Momo?<<
Ama:
>>Well, it actually went really well. She invited me to lunch as well so I was looking for you to come with me, but you had already left the locker room by the time I got there.
Zai:
Awwww, does my wittle sister have a new fwend? I'm so proud!<<
Ama:
>>I hate you.
Zai:
You love me!<<
Ama:
>>You're an asshole
Zai:
I know 🤣🤣🤣😘😘😘 <<
I put my phone in my pocket just as the red haired boy finally got Bakugo to calm down a bit. "Anyways, Zai, these are the boys I wanted to introduce you to!" Mina says, the three of them shooting me bright smiles. I recognize one of them as the boy with tape hair, but the red head is the first to speak.
"Name's Eijiro Kirishima, Mina told us all about you," he says with a grin, and it's now that I notice his mouth is filled with spiked teeth. "If you need to be protected, then I'm the guy for the job!" His grin only gets wider as he suddenly stands up, his skin becoming jagged and rough like rocks.
"Yeah, Kirishima can harden his whole body to be sturdier than steel!" The boy beside him says, and his hair makes me think of a certain electric mouse. "Anyways, I'm Denki Kaminari. I can't really show off my quirk because then it'll electrocute everyone here, but I guess if you need your phone charged you're welcome to come to me."
I'm calling you Pikachu from now on, I think to myself, finally turning to the tape haired boy. "Nice to meet you both, and that leaves..?"
"Hanta Sero, though my quirk isn't really as flashy as everyone else at this table," he says with a slight tint to his cheeks. "I can shoot tape from my arms, so uh.. I guess if you need packing tape I'm your guy?"
The rest of the group bursts into laughter at this, except Bakugo of course. "Well it's nice to meet you, Sero. I think your quirk is pretty cool, it could come in handy when apprehending villains and stuff," I reply, pulling my thermos out of my bag and taking a sip.
Sero's smile grows bigger as Mina slaps him on the back. "Anyways, Zai. What's your quirk?"
"Wait, Mina you're on a first name basis with the celebrity?" Kirishima interrupts, and his eyes widen as I try to stifle a laugh.
"Well, I would prefer if you all called me Zai. I mean, since both my sister and I are in the same class it makes sense to use our first names, plus I don't really mind." I pull my chopsticks out of their holder and pop a rice ball into my mouth. This causes the entire group to look at my lunch with awed expressions.
All of them have the typical cafeteria food in front of them, which I guess compared to my own lunch looks pretty bland. "Would... you all like to try some?" I offer, and their eyes light up like fourth of July fireworks.
America sure knows how to celebrate, after all!
Each of them take some of the sushi from my box, passing it around and putting some of their lunch in it's place. "The least we can do is share ours as well!" Mina explains, handing me my box back. Soba, curry, and a few other things replaced some of the rice balls and sushi, and I can't help but smile at the group before me.
The only one who didn't take anything is Bakugo, and I notice his eyes on the box in my hands. "Do you want to try some too?" I ask, out of the goodness of my own heart. I still don't particularly like the asshole, but it wouldn't be fair not to offer him some as well.
"As if I'd want any of your peasant food. Plus, you never answered Mina's question," he says with a scowl.
"Well, if you all come to my concert this weekend, then you'll find out," I simply respond. "There is a chance I'll have to reveal it during class or something, but I'd rather not because of how it works. Plus, it would be nice to have some friends to support me for a change."
"Ah hell no! Why would I go to a lame ass concert?" Bakugo protests, crossing his arms with a scoff.
Kirishima wraps an arm around the blonde before speaking. "I'll make sure he comes, don't worry. We should tell the rest of the class too! See if everyone is willing to come along!"
"Yeah, I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to convince everyone else," Kaminari says with a mouthful of rice. "Well, maybe Todoroki would be difficult but it won't hurt to try?"
"Todoroki?" I ask, tilting my head in confusion as I pop a piece of flying fish roe in my mouth.
"Yeah, you know. The guy with the white and red hair," Sero says, taking a bite of his soba. "He seems like the loner type, but Kaminari has a point."
Oh, so the son of Endeavor's name is Todoroki? Good to know. "I could try to ask him later, maybe if I can catch him after school," I say before checking the time. "I think I'm going to explore the school a bit with our remaining time."
I keep my smile just as bright as usual, though to be honest I'm getting a little tired. "Are you sure?" Mina asks as I begin to pack up my things. "Lunch isn't close to being over yet.."
"I'm sure, I'll see you guys later," I reply, but before I put away my lunch box I pick up a piece of salmon sushi with my chopsticks. Bakugo narrows his eyes at me as I put the sushi on his plate before closing the box and putting it back inside my bag.
"Hey, let me go with you then!" Kirishima says, forcing Kaminari to stand as he makes his way out of the booth. "I kind of want to see what the rest of the school looks like too, plus that way we don't have to worry about getting lost."
"I- okay, if you want to. I wouldn't mind the company," I reply with a wink. I was hoping to be left alone, I think to myself as we wave goodbye to the others. Mina looks between the two of us before giving me a knowing smile. I wonder what that's about?
"So what do you think they'll be having us do for the rest of today?" Kirishima asks as we head out of the cafeteria. I didn't see my sister on the way out, so she might have already left or I simply failed to notice.
"I don't know, but I hope it doesn't have to do with combat or anything," I reply with a small sigh. "I'm not fit for that kind of thing."
"Ah, I honestly hope we get to do something exciting!" The redhead says with a huge grin on his face. "But mind if I ask you something?"
"Sure, what's up?" I take another drink of my coffee as we walk, my heels clicking along the concrete floors. I'm pretty sure there is a teacher named Cementoss here, I think Aizawa mentioned him earlier this morning before we left for school. I wonder if he made the school, or if he arrived after it was built.
Then again, the school has been around for years so I highly doubt that. Maybe a relative of his or something? That would be pretty cool. "Well, why did you decide to come to U.A.?" Kirishima asks, resting his hands behind his head as he walks. "I mean, what made you decide you wanted to become a hero?"
My bright smile turns into one of sadness, causing Kirishima's grin to falter a little. I take my time before answering, resting one of my hands on my bag. "Well, if I really wanted to I could become a singer, or a musician, or whatever. Live an ordinary life, well, as ordinary as a celebrity could get."
"But what I love more than performing is the rush that comes with it. Whenever I get on that stage, I feel a little nervous I'll admit. That nervousness then fuels my adrenaline, and the high it gives me is just the best feeling in the world!"
Kirishima raises a brow, listening intently to my words. "I love taking risks, because you never know what tomorrow will bring. If you play with your cards close to the chest, you'll never win anything in the end. I love to throw caution to the wind, and if something has a chance in resulting in death then it fuels my adrenaline even more."
"Wha- that's crazy!" Kirishima says, eyes wide in surprise. "So you'd willingly do something dangerous even if it means throwing your life away?"
"Not necessarily," I reply as we continue down the empty halls. "I love trying things that most people wouldn't dare to do. The rush from jumping out of a plane with just a parachute, or off of a bridge with only a rope tied around your waist. There is a chance that the rope will break, or that the parachute won't activate quickly enough or at all."
"When you throw all caution to the wind and let go of your fears, you suddenly become more free than you could have ever dreamed! That's why I want to be a hero. I want to help people while getting wrapped up in as many crazy adventures as I can! I'll have plenty of stories to tell the next generation and inspire others to become heroes too."
"Woah... you must be really brave then," Kirishima says with a small smile.
I shake my head, because that's not exactly the case. "Bravery is pushing through when the fear overcomes you. When you're left trembling, terrified to the bone, bravery is putting one foot in front of the other despite being scared. So what would you call someone who has no fears at all?"
"After all, what's there for me to be afraid of?"
Momo Yaoyorozu- Quirk: Creation. She can create any non-organic material she can think of from the fat lipids from her body! She has to know it's molecular structure however in order to make it accurately, so she spends a lot of time studying and eating hearty meals!
Fun fact, the anime actually portrays her as skinnier than she is in the manga, which led to a lot of controversy. She's also the main victim of fanservice due to her hero costume, but it does make logical sense!
