Chapter One: The Nobuyuki Sisters

"Girls, hurry up or you're going to be late!"

I let out a soft sigh and squeezed my sister's hand a little tighter. It was the first day of school, a day we thought we'd go through with our parents by our side. It's only been a few weeks since they died, but Ama and I made sure to come visit them as often as we could.

"We should probably get going soon," I say in a quiet tone, kneeling to trace my fingers along the names engraved on their headstone.

'Makoto Nobuyuki. Beloved husband and father.'

'Akila Nobuyuki. Beloved wife and mother.'

"I promise to keep Ama out of trouble, though I feel like she'll be the one doing that for me. I know you're both watching over us. Keep each other company until we get up there with you, okay?"

Ama squeezes my hand, signaling in her own way that I should hurry up. My sister has always been more of the quiet type. I nod and get to my feet, leading my sister to where our new legal guardian is waiting for us in his car.

Aizawa nods as we climb into the backseat of the car, and soon we drive away from our parent's burial grounds. The car is silent as we head towards U.A. High School, the number one school for aspiring heroes. The place our parents went to back when they were our age, and where Aizawa works as a teacher.

Aizawa took us in after our parents were killed, saying he felt indebted to them for some unknown reason. So after a bit of paperwork he officially adopted my sister and I, though I'm pretty sure he prefers Ama over me.

He's also the one who saved me that night.

"Now, you girls better behave yourselves. I'm looking at you, Zai," Aizawa says, narrowing his eyes at me through the rearview mirror.

"Whaaa? Muah?" I say in mock offense, my hand fluttering to my chest. "But I'm such an angel!"

"Liar," Ama says with a grin, elbowing me lightly in the ribs.

"How dare you, sister! I'll have you know that I'm one of the most honest people I know!"

"You only know four people."

"Still counts!"

"Ugh, you both are going to give me a headache.." Aizawa says as we pull into the school's parking lot. " Your sister got lucky with her recommendation so keep her out of trouble, alright Ama? And Zai, don't forget about your concert this weekend. Since you insisted on bringing your work here, I don't want to see you slacking off in your training or performances."

"I'll do my best," my younger sister says in a quiet voice, while I merely scowl as I open my door.

We hop out of the car along with Aizawa, my sister and I heading to the front of the school. Both of us were admitted into Class 1-A, and thankfully it doesn't take us too long to find it. The door is HUGE, which I suppose makes sense. There are people out there with quirks that make their bodies larger, so a bigger door would be needed to accommodate them.

"Ready sister?" I ask Ama, who merely rolls her eyes at my bright smile.

"Just don't embarrass me today, I'd like to lay low as much as possible."

"Why do you both have to tease me today!" I groan before rolling my shoulders back, making sure my quirk is on mute for now. And so we march on towards our death, our graves already six feet under.

At least, that's what Ama would say.

There are already so many people in the room, though it seems like not everyone is here yet. I see their heads turn in our direction, causing Ama to immediately hide behind me. I roll my eyes and lead the way forward, my heel clicking against the floor. Aizawa gave me a look this morning when I put them on, but why wear some boring tennis shoes or flats when you can look absolutely FABULOUS in stilettos?

"Are those the other recommended students?" I hear someone whisper, and I look over to see a pink skinned girl with matching poofy curls sitting not too far from us. Ama takes a seat with a sigh, but I merely set my bag down in the space beside her before heading over to the pink girl.

"To whom might I owe the pleasure?" I ask with a sweet smile, resting one hand on my hip. The girl turns a deep shade of red before letting out a bright laugh.

"Mina Ashido," she says, mimicking my posture. "I don't remember seeing you at the entrance exams, but you might not have been in my area at all."

"Oh no, I was recommended by Present Mic," I reply, flicking my hair back over my shoulder. When I heard that Aizawa was recommending Ama to U.A. I'll admit I felt a little jealous. Both of us wanted to be aspiring heroes like our parents, but thankfully when he offered her the recommendation Present Mic was there with us.

"You're not going to recommend her sister? Aizawa, you're so cruel!" Present Mic shouts loudly, though I guess there is no way for him to speak normally either.

"She's a troublemaker, and her quirk isn't necessarily suited to hero work. She can't fight a villain even with her combat training, she should just stick to being a singer." Aizawa says, and I could feel a little bit of rage bubbling up inside of me. Before I can get a word in, Present Mic steps in to give his two cents.

"She may not be a combat type hero, but imagine what she could do on rescues?" Present Mic says, catching me completely by surprise. "People tend to panic in life or death situations, which can put them and others in danger. Her quirk could calm and soothe those who are afraid."

I can't help but feel touched at Present Mic's words, but then Aizawa has to go and ruin the party. "I'm still not changing my mind, Mic," He said, however his colleague shrugged before placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Well, it's not your choice to make, Aizawa. You were once like her, too. Zai, I'm going to recommend you into the hero course," Present Mic says, and pure joy replaces the rage that had previously begun to form.

"I think you have something that most others don't. A spark, one that can fill others with hope and faith. It reminds me a lot of someone else I know, so don't ever think that just because you can't kick ass yet means that you can't make a difference."

I'll admit that the man gained so much respect for me in that moment.

"Wow! That's so cool, you must be really strong!" Mina says, clapping her hands together as a few others gather around us. If only she knew..

"OH SO YOU THINK YOU'RE STRONG HUH??" I hear an angry voice from behind me. I look up to see a boy with spiky blond hair and red eyes glaring down at me. Though not too far down, he seems to be only an inch taller at most. I'm not even wearing that high of heels either.. WAIT, DOES THAT MEAN HE'S WEARING INSOLES?!

"Oh honey, I'm fairly certain of my abilities," I respond with a wink, and the boy who I shall now refer to as an angry hedgehog growls at my response. "Hold on, weren't you the one that was dealing with that sludge villain?"

This seemed to shut him up REAL quick, and I merely tap him on the nose as I head back to my seat. I hear nothing but silence from the group as I sit down, and the boy scowls at me before moving to his own.

"That was entertaining."

I raised a brow before turning my attention to the boy beside me. His bi-colored hair is the first thing I notice, before my gaze settles on his eyes. One blue, one gray. Interesting.

Wait, I know him. He's Endeavor's kid, I remember Aizawa talking about how he was another one of the recommended students. Pretty obvious as to who recommended him, though I can only wonder who the other one is.

He doesn't say a word more, as the blonde spiky haired boy has started an argument with a boy that looks more like a nerdy businessman than a hero. I hear Ama let out a sigh beside me, though I can't help but smile to myself.

Things are sure to be interesting around here.
